Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

Don't forget there are series which got colour pages early on yet were still cancelled around ch 20. I can't imagine extra pages mean much before a series is even placed, could just be the author made too many and didn't want to cut any out.

I have to wonder what's going on when stuff gets colour pages yet is cancelled only a little later, like how Horikoshi's previous series, Sensei no Bulge, got a colour page on ch 10 "as thanks for the popularity", yet it got cancelled at just ch 16.

I could understand something like Hungry Marie since it at least lasted past ch 30, that's long enough to have seemed promising at first but dropped after they celebrated the early popularity, but surely if a series flops hard enough to join the U19 club they'd know it wasn't popular by ch 10.
I wish you had done this research with Undead unluck, but when it is a manga that you don't like it seems that you have a resistance to accept that there is a possibility that the manga will be well received.

Not saying it'll be badly received, just saying there's just no point in hyping it up as a new success yet when flops have gotten the same thing.

I'm pessimistic about all new series, currently Mashle and Undead seem like they'll stick around long term but they're still new, and it's possible they'll stop feeling fresh to readers and fail to grow after this or will have a bad arc that makes everyone stop reading. There's plenty of series that got cancelled around ch 40-70 after a decent-strong start after all.

The way I see it, we generally know by ch 11 or 12 if something's going to survive the first couple batches, but it's not really until ch 40 to 50 that you can tell something's a proper hit or not.

I maintain my opinion, it is always good to have color pages or extra pages.
Any indication that a manga is doing well is always welcome.

That's what I'm talking about, something like extra pages early on is not necessarily an indication that it's doing well. If it's consistently out of the bottom 5 in it's first few rankings only then will know know it's safe from the U19 club (though there's weird stuff there too, like Act-age when dropped to the bottom at first but rose back up and is still around).

Speaking of promotion of failures though, what's the earliest cancelled series to get a second cover page? Robot x Laserbeam got one but was cancelled just past ch 60, is that the record?

Yes,

for example, the last time I saw Boruto's sales they were down.
Do you have any direct testimony from Japanese people who thought so?

The sales of the manga are decent for a spin off.

I will not repeat what I said.
Color pages and extra pages before the pre rank is good. Even if the manga is canceled, at least it shows that the jump via potential.
And again, I didn't see that resistance at the time of Undead unluck.

Falling sales is proof enough. Even though you claim he's fine.

All series have faling sales.

And anyway no, haven't you answered my questions yet?

Was there really a negative response in Japan?

For me, no, otherwise it would never have lasted until today.

Until now it lasted much longer because of anime than for the manga.
And I answer your questions yes.
You want to make me answer you the way you want.

Shonen jump plus has really been killing it in 2019 and this year. Again, once jigokuraku and spy x family get anime adaptations I can see the site becoming LINE levels of huge.
Would love to see it expand to worldwide manga creations

I see people comparing Ayakashi triangle and Yuuna, because Yabuki did To love ru.
I took a look at chapter 2 of AyT and read chapters 1 and 2 of Yuuna, and without spoiler, I don't think Ayakashi is going to be the new Yuuna, rle looks much more serious than yuuna, in my opinion bone collection is much more like Yuuna, despite the art.
Ayakashi triangle is more reminiscent of battle shonen from shonen magazine, those with a lot of ecchi even in serious moments (Fairy tail, orient, fire force, Uq holder).

I think Yuuna is more To Love Ru esque. Bone Collection seems more like a Urusei Yastura type of thing, with an emphasis on the comedy. Of course Ayakishi doesn't seem to be in either of the Yuuna/TLR or Bokuben/Nisekoi mold, it's kind of it's own thing. But regardless, Jump is still marketing it as a ラブコメ.

That's why I compared it to kodansha manga, especially Uq holder.
As I said before, most battleshonen at shonen magazine have some very appealing ecchis, especially those from Hiro mashima.

As of now, guess its fair to say that Ayakashi will be at least tamer than TLR and Yuuna in terms of fanservice. Think comparing it with some of Mashima's works is a fair comparison lol

It's cool seeing Mashle and Undead still hanging around on the chart on their third week.

Unrelated but had a thought, what WSJ series has the most spinoffs and sequels and such? My guess is Otokojuku since it has

  1. the original
  2. three or four different sequels
  3. a full length prequel
  4. maybe 5 or 6 short spinoffs about random other characters
  5. and I think some gag spin-offs too
Miyashita's like the Fukumoto Nobuyuki of jump, he just keeps having more and more random connected series.

I think that comparing Ayakashi triangle and Uq holder is better.
because Kentaro Yabuki and Ken Akamatsu (love hina, Negima and Uq holder) have a lot of similarities between them.
Both did works of action, harem ecchi.

Welp, looks like that's the end of Yozakura volume 3 on Shoseki, glad Undead is still there, and Mashle is above Yuuna again hot damn.

Saint Seiya and Hokuto no Ken have a ton.
