I remember someone who was predicting that Orochimaru was helping out in the war because he wanted Naruto and Sasuke to take down Madara, and weaken him enough so that Orochimaru would take over his body
Actually would have liked that to happen. Would have been much better than the Kaguya nonsense.

Outside manga, there is a fight in anime filler, him vs sasori & deidara. when they were showing akatsuki formation if u want to see it. And if the novel is canon, i guess tht turns it to canon too.

He was really a great villain in part 1, but by end of naruto, he was the president of sasuke fan club.
Boruto actually made him quite cool again , with mitsuki and stuffs.

Yep, tht was one of his better characteristics, but he was moved by the death of the jiraiya and also changed since then being inside kabuto. No longer attached to forbidden jutsus.

I'm aware of some stuff outside the manga too. Not this which you mentioned though.

However, I think people prefer to keep this theme manga only. So do I as the host. And since I'm the one in charge here (xP), I try to keep this theme in the realms of the manga, and the databooks I read (and remember) from back then as much as possible.

Not to mention that the term 'canon' is debatable anyway, and just opens a can of worms.

Gaara's probably the only character in the series, who heard "I-really-know-what-to-say-dude" Talk no Jutsu from Naruto. I don't like speeches, but this one after their fight hit me hard (and these apologies to Temari and Kankuro later) Though, Gaara's life was harsher than Naruto's or any other Jinchuuriki I believe - betrayed by his own father and uncle (who was following orders, but still), feared by his own siblings, rised in believe, that he was never loved and never wanted. First when he was introduced he seemed to be taken from some gore manga, but later he grew up to be composed, serious and mature man (especially compared to Naruto), always quiet and calm even in the fight. And capable, charismatic leader too.
I only wish he wasn't such a Naruto's fanboy, but he's quiet in his fanboism too, so let him have it, I guess it's quite justified.

The only thing that Gaara lacked as a character was eyebrows...

Orochimaru was great as a villain in first part of the series, seeking for immortality to learn about all the techniques in shinobi world - the very proof, that knowledge can be dangerous And despite him being mad and bad, he still managed to gather devoted followers (or fanatics in few cases). Too bad there was no space for him later in the story.

Yep, i know, most like to keep it to manga. But, tht is just me providing source to you, in case u r interested to see the fight. Not justifying or saying it makes it better.

Crux is they both use 3rd kazekage against each other. One uses the puppet and other edo tensei & deidara just goes randomly with his blast arts.
