I still can't explain how you can possibly do this in the anime.

I am not even a Naruto fan. Not a fan of his character. Nor his fighting style. And the animation of that fight was still able to trigger the hell out of me.

That was NARUTO'S FIGHT. It was THAT FIGHT.

1. I miss Akatsuki meetings like this when they'd gather to extract bijuu from their hosts. They felt so enigmatic( the mysterious rings, the eyes, the jutsus, the Gedo Mazou statue); you knew they were villains as they were after Naruto ( and would eventually come across him) but you couldn't wait to meet these invisible faces. Their introduction did disappoint and neither did most of their fights. Until Obito and Taka/Hebi integrated into the group.

2. That page with Pain and Konan is one of my favourites during that arc with the fight. Correct me if I'm wrong but that's the first time we actually see him without hiding in the shadows. You would've thought someone older would be leading this dangerous group of shinobi.

Imo this is Pain's coolest bit. At the end of the day, Pain/Nagato really wasn't a some overbearing cunt; he respected the capacities of his associates and adversaries and used his power in an entertaining fashion (compared to Madara who DaNcEs across the battlefield). He called himself God but still acted with the caution of a shinobi. He wasn't a fun character per se, but definitely carried the gravitas one would expect from the Akatsuki leader and Rain village Kage.

Sure, it looks shit on freeze frame - but it was unique, stylish, and there was a nice flow to the fight [least I thought so]

One of my favorites was when Deidara fought Garra. And for no reason the animated it so his sand ball was flying around super fast. It looked like a flying pinball. Which I think we can all agree was a fantastically hilarious addition to what was supposed to be a great fight.

No question, the Pain fight was their masterpiece though.
