Spoiler: Ero-Sennin bonus

'Let me teach you one thing. The true quality of the shinobi is not in the number of jutsus or amount of talent he possesses. What is important is the determination to never give up.'

'The true measure of a shinobi is not how he lives, but how he dies. What matters is not what they do in life but what they did before dying, which proves their worth.'

'Nice to meet you. I'm Jiraiya! Don't worry, you can give me a love letter later!'

'You stupid man...' - Tsunade

What I said about Hiruzen and Kakashi also counts for our dear Jiraiya-sensei.

No matter what important stuff he had to do outside the village, there is no excuse for giving zero fucks to Naruto for 12 whole years.

But compared to Hiruzen and Kakashi, that is probably the only downside of Jiraiya which crosses my mind. I can't remember any other dents this character has.

He was a great character through and through.

Once he met Naruto, he took him under his wing as he was supposed to.

Teached him the ways.

One if not the most important pillar for Naruto.

One of Konoha's strongest assets.

Maybe the only informant Konoha had!? (j/k )

Teached Naruto Rasengan, when Rasengan was cool.

Threatened Tsunade to kill her if she betrays the leaf.

Brought Tsunade back to Konoha with Naruto.

Wholesome flashback with the Ame-trio.

Tracked down Akatsuki's leader.

Put up an incredible fight.

Got the best death of the series.

We can consider ourselves extremely lucky that he wasn't brought back… in Naruto.

Hence, there was no way for Kishimoto to ruin this legendary Sannin… in Naruto.

Jiraiya-sama was much… much more than he thought of himself.

We all respect you.

We all love you.

Farewell.

Ero-Sennin!

Bonus? The image above is bonus enough. Always loved Kishi's early artstyle more.
This 'first' panel of Itachi is one of my favorites, that absolutely menacing demeanour which radiates pure superiority.

Quotes from others:

'Kage Bunshin? His Jutsu is incredibly fast' - Kurenai

'That's an incredibly fast jutsu... my eyes can't even keep up with him.' - Kakashi

'Damn, he still managed to make a Kage Bunshin during all that?' - Sasuke

'Stay on your toes... he became an Anbu captain at 13. [...] We haven't seen his real power yet...!' - Kakashi

'There hasn't been such a genius... such a quality student at the academy ever since...' - Random Academy Teacher

'If you are struck by that eye jutsu, his Genjutsu can affect you in an instant. There is no cancelling the effects of it.' - Kakashi

'A troublesome person... what in the world is he...?' - Chiyo

'What a great eye power... it's splendid...' - Orochimaru

'This is true art... How could someone else's power captivate me like that...' - Deidara

'Because he is even stronger than me.' - Orochimaru

'He's... completely invincible...' - Black Zetsu

'That Itachi... even in death, he never ceases to amaze me.' - Obito

'Fortunately, I managed to keep a few secrets even from him... if I hadn't, I'd be dead right now.' - Obito

'You need to know about him... this man who risked everything to protect the shinobi world... the leaf village... and most of all, his little brother. You need to know about Uchiha Itachi's life.' - Obito

'Itachi's dead... nothing stands in my way now.' - Obito

'Compared to Itachi's Tsukuyomi, where he could alter your perception of time at his whim... you're as far below him as the land is below the sky.' - Danzou

'Watch yourself, Bee! If he gets you with Tsukuyomi or Amaterasu you're finished!' - Naruto

'I underestimated him...! Uchiha Itachi... He's clearly on another level to the others!' - Kabuto

'This guy's hella strong mothafucka!' - Killer Bee

'I'm sorry, Itachi...' - Nagato

'But Itachi's so skilled with kunai that he still found a blind spot he could use to hit the targets! He's just too damn good.' - Kabuto

'You're more than just another strong shinobi, aren't you...' - Killer Bee

'It doesn't matter who... whoever it was, they're a hero that protected the shinobi world!' - Oonoki

'At the age of 7, his reasoning was just like a Hokage's...' - Hiruzen

'We entrusted everything to him alone...' - Hiruzen

'It's someone like him that should've been Hokage.' - Sasuke

Quotes from Itachi:

'The village does have its dark side and its inconsistencies, but I'm still Konoha's Itachi Uchiha'

'You don't become the Hokage to be acknowledged by everyone. The one who is acknowledged by everyone becomes the Hokage.'

'We don't know what kind of people we truly are until the moment before our deaths. As death comes to embrace you, you will realise what you are. That's what death is, don't you think?'

'Any technique is worthless before my eyes.'

'It is not wise to judge others based on your own preconceptions and by their appearances.'

'You are already within my Genjutsu'

'End of the line, Sasuke'

'I'm sorry, Sasuke... there won't be a next time.'

'You're living in a fantasy world... you need to come to terms with the fact that you, as a shinobi, will be forced to make impossible decisions like this.'

'And the weak point and risk of this technique is my existence!'

'My foolish brother… If you want to kill me… curse me! Hate me! And live a long and unsightly life… Run away… run away… and cling to your pitiful life. And then some day, when you have the same eyes as I do, come before me.'

I was never sure what to write here, especially as a host and one of his fanboys.

He is one of the most controversial characters, flawed, and thus there are many people who disapprove of him. Many of them who are probably butthurt and disappointed by now.

He won. The members have spoken. 230 points. There is no need for any words.

Hence, I was considering to keep this ranking post as blank as possible. Classy.

Simply following the motto: a gentleman never tells.

…

But why should I?

I am no gentleman.

I spent countless of hours for this theme.

Bled for this theme.

Neglected my precious sleep for this theme.

...

So fuck it. Fuck you. I have every right to spill it all out. To show everything there is.

…

But I will give you a chance to leave. I have no intention to verbally kill you all.

So… in case you dislike Uchiha Itachi, you are well advised to not open the spoiler tags..

...

The content might enlighten you.

…

Open your eyes.

…

And finally make you realize.

So, look at them at your own risk.

Spoiler: A couple of words about Uchiha Itachi

Combat speed faster than the Sharingan eye can perceive.

People still fail to grasp the op-ness of Tsukuyomi or comprehend the basic concepts of (Itachi's) Genjutsu.

He Totsuka-blitzed a Sannin and a Rinnegan-wielder.

Genjutsu'ed Kage/Sannin and Akatsuki level opponents with a ease, without the use of his Mangekyou Sharingan.

Able to put you in Genjutsu with only his finger.

Invincible with Yata no Kagami + Totsuka no Tsurugi.

Izanami. Kotoamatsukami. Susanoo. Amaterasu.

Don't be mistaken. I'm an adversary of this power creep. It's horrible. But if I have to choose between my favorite character following this power creep and staying somehow relevant or my favorite character getting into a stagnated state and unable to do anything, then I gladly take the former, sorry.

Requires only shurikens and kunais to deal with the Rinnegan's shared vision. He makes Shurikenjutsu literally op.

Had to be sick, because too OP.

The reasoning of a Hokage when he was just 7 years old.

Graduated the academy when he was 7 years old. Minato's academy graduation age was 10. With 10 years, Itachi was already a Chuunin by the way.

Took matters into his own hands as a teenager because everyone else failed. Yes, a mass murderer who killed (innocent) people of all ages. Unforgivable, but necessary. Maybe not from the outside/readers point of view, because the whole conflict was poorly written (as pointed out a lot here). But within the story, it was either the Uchiha Clan or a potential demise of the village.

The embodiment of a shinobi.

Selfless as selfless can get.

Konoha's… no, the shinobi world's hero.

Not once, not twice, I lost count.

Prodigy among prodigies.

Throws best quotes more often than all shinobis shurikens in the entire story.

Flawed, like really flawed for how he abused his little brother.

Retconned? I wouldn't fully agree on this. Hints were already there that he was not the person who he appeared to be, even very early on in the series. So, I truly think Kishimoto had planned something else for him. To be the 'hero' that he became? No, that I doubt too though.

Would have worked better as a (final) villain? Most likely, yes.

Not the most powerful, but the best fighter out there.

Despite all of this…

...all things considered:

The greatest character this manga has ever seen.

Spoiler: compilation #1

Spoiler: compilation #2

Spoiler: compilation #3

For all his haters, and deniers. Read, and read carefully:
'People live their lives bound by what they accept as correct and true. That's how they define reality. But what does it mean to be 'correct' or 'true'? Merely vague concepts… Their reality may all be a mirage. Can we consider them to simply be living in their own world, shaped by their beliefs?' - Uchiha Itachi

[Demonspeed]

He did it! Or did he?

[Ramen]

Legendary.

[Vici]

People really thought that non Uchiha can win this

Anyway that was nice round thanks for everyone who took very active part in it.. and you @Purity of Magi

Discussion was very interesting and point out many characters flaws or just shit writting that I wasn't aware of.

Now Bleach game.

[Hermit]

Lol @ modern day Muten Roshi at #2.
Though in his defence, at least he doesn't constantly ask Sakura to see her panties Or to grope her chest....

[Aurelius]

Just beautifully done for Konoha's Itachi Uchiha

Anyone hoping/thought Itachi wouldn't finish first, was just living in a fantasy

Haha too bad

Now accept reality!!

[Ramen]

Onto to this bleach one.... I can smell the toxicity already.

[Vici]

Onto to this bleach one.... I can smell the toxicity already.

I mean it was mostly shit after first arcs... :P

[Demonspeed]

I won't lie. I loved the Itachi wank to bits. It was one of the few things giving me life in the final arc.

Still, despite he being called a genius I disliked how we mostly saw him use Mangekyou and Katon. What else could he do?

[Ramen]

I mean it was mostly shit after first arcs... :P

TYBW was pretty good.

syx’s final words:

Will never do this to such degree ever again. That's an Uchiha promise!

I hadn't planned to take this long with the theme. I would've preferred a slightly faster pace. For that I am sorry.

The hate I have for the Fun Forum surpasses that of Madara, Sasuke, and Obito combined.

I rekt myself in every imaginable way.

Read/skimmed through all 700 chapters several times.

The search for videos, and tracks exhausted my Sharingan eyes.

My chakra reserves are completely depleted, and I don't have Hashirama's cells.

My eyes went blind, and I have no siblings to steal their eyes from.

However…

I want to thank you all who participated in sending their lists.

Thank you all who contributed to the discussions here and made their points. If there is one thing I love, then it is seeing/reading views from your/a different angle, especially those who don't align with mine. I truly wanted to discuss more with you guys, but I was pretty much dead the whole theme.

I want to thank everyone who didn't ignore my invitation pm.

Thanks to everyone who did ignore my invitation pm.

You can find everything related to this theme here.

This was syx.

Lol @ modern day Muten Roshi at #2.
Though in his defence, at least he doesn't constantly ask Sakura to see her panties Or to grope her chest....

Compared to most Shounen perverted characters Jiraiya doesn't really seem that perverted TBH.

[Riku]

Boo. I get that double agents are cool, but Itachis writing didnt make much sense. And he is just a very typical early 2000s 'cool' anime edge-lord. Meh.

Jiraya is the only character I've ever forgiven for blatant sexism. At least he is honest about doesn't do anything too horrendous , and his heart is pure gold.

Also - one can be "ugly" and still be cool. Way to go Erosennin.

Thanks @syx for hosting! Thank you for all the effort!

[Hermit]

The only criticism I have about Itachi is that Izanami technique. That one feels blatantly asspulled. In fact it is the one Sharingan technique I have always had a problem with tbh. The rest are all fair game.
Also didn't like how the Rinnegan ended being a Sharingan upgrade. Too freaking forced.

[z.5]

Spoiler

Any chance I could have this as an excel file?

Save me typing it all out, for the lists I'm storing

[Vici]

@goldb x @Vici

Could be worse

It's not @Brandish μ at least

[Purity of Magi]

Hey darling @Farfalla

What did you say again some posts ago to me?

Anyway, now to bring this also to the table that some brought up early:

Quite fascinating, people must really have some hidden appreciation towards both Hinata and Sakura if they are still in.

We will get a names and know who we should avoid in the future..

Hinata voters:

@Kiki (9) @Faust (8) @Nii (7) @SirSamuel016 (7) @GrySun (5) @Sachsenhesse (5) @Rikudou King (3) @Totinona (3) @Farfalla (1) @jaymizzo (1) @Seraph (1)

Sakura voters:

@SirSamuel016 (10) @Jammin (8) @kira (7) @Hermit (6)

You know who you can forgive and you know who you should be avoiding in the future, as a wise Vici person once said.

You are very welcome.

CIAO.

PS: Thanks for your hard work and dedication, Syx. This felt like Mafia game for me! Also because of this round I was actually rewatching and rereading some Naruto again. Not sure if that was nice or a big mistake..... anyway, it was fun!

Bleach here we come!

[Demonspeed]

Itachi took first place because your hatred wasn't strong enough .

[Kiki]

Thank you @syx for hosting this one. It was enjoyable. You put much effort into it, such passionate. I didnt realize it is already 1 week since you and uncle gnut tagged me. Wow time flies fast. Also thank you everyone for the discussions, honestly feeling so nostalgic : ' ) and those funny posts

His Susanoo was broken. That Totsuka Sword + Yata Mirror was something else.
