It is a rumor based on the fact that they're not following each other on twitter and that apparently Matsuki didn't want to sign Usazaki's drawings at events. Whether the latter part is true, I have no idea. It's a rumor that's going around though.
I think it's less about it being acceptable and more the fact that going around on your bike, sexually assaulting middle schoolers in the middle of the street doesn't sound like something anybody in full use of their mental faculties would ever do, no matter how skeevy. Like, this isn't just bad behavior, this is also insane behavior.
Yes, pedophilia is an illness. There is something wrong with them. It shouldn't be downplayed like that as it only perpetuates this weird idea that inebriation is some sort of excuse or trigger for sexual assault and presents a naive understanding of intoxicants.
Rapists rape, drugs don't.
I could see them dropping it. Collectors would probably be mad but the series will always be incomplete anyway so it doesn't really matter. I'm curious if we'll get the (presumably) final chapter on Monday. I doubt it's anymore "final" feeling than chapter 122 was so it won't really make a difference but it is already complete so they might.
Hmm. A lot of women can tell when someone is being creepy even when it isn't obvious to men. If the fact that the artist and this writer hated each other is true, I wonder if it's because she sensed that from him.
I just really hope there weren't more victims, man. Experiences like this lasts a lifetime for the victims.
Worst possible news to wake up to, absoultely awful situation. Feel very bad for the victims, and also of course the people working on the stage play, and anime (never announced but you can't tell me it wasn't already in development)
If you check Amazon jp, all act age volumes are in the top 50. And all of them are being review bombed (dunno if this the correct term, but the latest volume is getting 1 star review + what happened few hours ago with the author).
Okay everyone, what will be the future of Act-age ? According to your opinion, is it going to continue with a new story writer ? Do Shueisha must end AA ?
If they axe AA, when ? Because I honestly can't imagine AA getting stopped in the next couple of weeks.
Im betting on a silent absence on the next issue, then we will never hear about it again
I dont think it should go on for the sake of going on, a manga is a product of its writer and artist, there is no point getting another writer for it, might aswell make a new series.
I think the series will be paused and then resume in the future (maybe not on the jump) ... But I'm sure the manga will be completely suspended from viz and probably on mangaplus.
Terrible news, especially for the poor girls. I am impressed with their bravery to go to the police/tell their parents about this, not everyone has that courage when it comes to people in more powerful position than you using their power to abuse you for their own entertainment. Glad it was different this time though it also means that AA will end now and not in 200-300 chapters as were most likely planned. All chapters, characters and development we will never see happening, gone because of a sick asshole who rather lived out his illness instead of asking for help as he should have if he had been a responsible adult.
Not the time for dark humor jokes but I could see this Author comment becoming a meme in the darker parts of the internet. Basically already bragging with your "hobby" aka crimes against minors, bah.
Indeed, Kei was one of the few really good female characters Jump had and I am going to miss her and her adventure of becoming a world famous actress...
Truly hope he's brought to justice and Shiro Usazaki manages to disassociate herself from him, whether she continues Act-Age or not. Even if it means never seeing the conclusion to Yonagi's story, justice matters more.

"Future is best" to quote a famous CSM quote aka AA is dead. They can't find another writer in time and the artist most likely cannot continue the story on her own. Plus even if Kei and Chiyoko are only the creation of Matsuki they will be associated with him in the future which sucks as they were good characters with an interesting story, but that's just how it goes. Like there is a saying of not putting the sins of the father on the child but in this case of artist (father) and art (child) I don't believe that WSJ can find a way to keep the series alive even if most AA fans would still be ready to continue reading and supporting the series.
Maybe if Matsuki dropps all rights regarding the series and they find a new author, maybe then, but that chance is really slim.
As bad as Watsuki’s situation was, I think Matsuki’s situation is much worse.
Hell, I’d say Shimabakuro was cancelled for much less.
I can’t see Act-Age ever continuing in the magazine. RIP to future volumes. RIP to the future and inevitable anime series. RIP to the future stage play. RIP to the potential live action film. This was a series that was clearly going to be huge, but now it’s done. I think any future Act-Age was going to have us over now.
I also can’t see Matsuki not getting jail time for this. So even if Shueisha wasn’t going drop him for the crime, I doubt they’d be willing to put the series on hiatus and wait for however long it takes for Matsuki to serve his time and start the series up again. And just hope that he won’t commit a crime again.
On top of that, Shiro is young and has a career of her own. She can’t just sit around waiting for him to continue working. If the series goes of a 5 year hiatus, she might have a new hit series of her own by then.
The only saving grace is MAYBE Shiro knows exactly how the rest of the series is suppose to play out from here, and could continue without Matsuki. However, from what I’m hearing they apparently hated each other, so I doubt that. And, as awful as a person he turned out being, Matsuki is still a phenomenal writer, and I doubt Act-Age could simply just continue without him.
Sadly, we witnessed one of Jump’s future pillars die in a matter of hours
Indeed, everything you say is true. Like I said above we will never see the full path Kei would have taken if her creator had not been a piece of shit. Like AA could have beena 300-400k seller with an anime, getting easily several seasons after the first one to cover a lot of her story, gathering more fans. It could have been a really big series in the coming years.
Now it won't.
Really sad for us AA fans, especially given how many people here have put it in their top5 mangas...
Also sad for Usazaki her art is great and she is still young so she will get her chances, but this is still hurting for her right now. I hope she gonna keep finding success after Act Age gets its shot-cut ending.

Well, just proves me right when I said AA will not be able to not be associated with their creator's crimes. AA is good on a purely objective POV as proven how many picky readers like it here on this forum to name one example and ofc its TOC rankings and sales. But from now on? It will be seen as "garbage" no matter how good it actually is as a series.

Even if shueshia decides to continue it, ppl won't see it with the same eyes as before. It's really sad that Shiro will have to pay all those broken plates because of some idiot doing. It's a tragedy.

God this year sucks. I can't believe what happened. Hopefully this artist is able to rebound quickly, because her art is amazing. I"m about 90% sure that this series is gonna get cancelled. My only hope is that they can somehow conclude it satisfyingly, and not just stop in the middle. This series had so much potential though, which makes this extra heart-breaking.
