Ghostwriter being cancelled kinda hurts :/
I don't really read new manga because I know just how brutal Jump is but when I do it tends to stick, the manga I read since day 1 because I thought "No way this gets cancelled" have been:
- Death Note: It was so unique no way it would get axed. (Plus it had art from the artist of Hikaru no go?! I was super sold haha)
- Gintama: Dropped it after a while, but I knew since the start a samurai manga with aliens had to be popular haha.
- Reborn: Dropped it after it stopped being funny and got to battles.
- To Love Ru: Yabuki Kentaro's art + ecchi= no way this gets cancelled.
- Bakuman: From the creators of DN+ interesting premise, surely not cancelled.
- K.O Sen: I liked the art and its premise, but it was very generic, like I knew it wasn't that unique but still wanted to read it.
- Double Arts: It was a unique concept, still hurts it got axed.
After Double Arts cancellation I just didn't care about new series anymore, it hurt that much that I'd just not read any new manga until it had at least say 5 volumes so it was "safe" (I know 5 volumes isn't really that safe, but safer I guess). Anyways I hadn't read a new manga from chapter 1 since Double Arts (That was in 2008), even though I knew there were some "safe" manga to read for some reason they just didn't appeal to me (e.g. Toriko or Assasination Classroom, Toriko because it was promoted like crazy by Jump since its beginning, AC because it got great reviews/word of mouth since chapter 1 IIRC).. I also had a hunch Shokugeki no Soma would stick, but didn't start reading it until after its anime adaptation.
Meh.. So yeah, anyways this year with me having more free time than usual due to the pandemic I decided to start a weekly serial.. And I really thought
Time Paradox Ghostwriter could be something special.
It kinda was.. And I had already started it... And it was a fine manga, but after a couple of chapters the story felt rushed, "So this is how a canceled manga feels to read, huh?", it was clear the author had been told the manga would get canceled if its ranks didn't improve and was trying to rush to the "good parts" of the story he/she had planned out... Alas, we know what happened.
Opinion with some spoilers about Time Paradox Ghostwriter's problems:
For me the problem with the story was the very premise itself, the main character is basically a plagiarist which we are supposed to cheer for?...
If I were the author and seen what people thought online I would have changed the story after a couple of chapters, incentivize the MC to cancel the manga he had been plagiarizing and actually write one for himself.
It was just hard to sympathize with the MC (I cant even remember his name tbh) and that's not something you want in your manga, I think.
