It has some narrative things better than the original while being crazier in every single match.

Several times, in fact. Seen the anime several times too. I fucking love it.

Interesting because I think the jump from PoT to NPoT isn't so drastic, in fact I would argue that most matches that aren't rushed are better written than a big majority of the National's.

The beginning was a bit rough in the sense that we weren't properly introduced to wherever the hell the story was going and didn't even know who to root.

Now it's clear and in hindsight (if you like og) it's a good read (it was also a pain in the ass to follow because there were periods where we would have little to no chapters, often short). You just gotta know that the goal is forming a team for a WC and that the main team is naturally Japan.
