Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Shoseki Monthly Ranking - September

Jump

#1 One Piece 97
#2 Spy x Family 5
#5 My Hero Academia 28
#8 Dr. Stone 8
#13 Boruto 12
#84 Yuuna and the Haunted Hotsprings 23
#86 Undead Unluck 3

Jump+

#35 Jigokuraku 11
#149 2.5 Dimension 6
#200 Vigilante -My Hero Academia Illegals- 10
#349 Boukyaku Battery 8

Undead Unluck 3 ends up with a monthly estimation of 49.432 copies, a bit far from the ~42.000 copies gotten by adding all 5 weeks covering September (41.888 going by Shoseki exclusively, 43.717 by also using Oricon). Considering the possible error margins of overestimation and subestimation, I'd say the volume should be around those previous 42.000 copies, 45.000 maximum. Overall, doubling the numbers of its previous volume, even though I expected a bit more from the award.

That's not true ahah. You can see worldwide on Wikipedia with most recent sources as reference.

1. One Piece - 470 million
2. Dragon Ball - 250-300 million
3. Golgo 13 - 280 million
4. Naruto - 250 million
5. Detective Conan - 230 million
6. Black Jack - 176 million
7. KochiKame - 157 million
8. Oishinbo - 130 million
9. Slam Dunk - 126 million
10. Bleach - 120 million

Raf and Mankichi posted the top 10 for Jump series only

That said, I wouldn't trust the wiki too much, Black Jack is most likely not at 176m units in print. The source in wikipedia for that is the book "Manga and Anime go to Hollywood" (number is Page 8 and Page 40, source is Page 380 and 381). But that same book uses this wiki page as a source. Back then (october 16, 2014), the source for the 176m number was an ANN article whose source was this ranking that currently displays Black Jack as having 45.64m units in print, but did show the 176m number in 2014.

Wo what would be the best source for all mangas and not only WSJ?

the publishers themselves whenever they decide to post the number.
WSJ series are more easy to find and record is because they literally printed the number on the dust cover as ads, so you can always reference them, unlike other series from other publishers.

As I said couple posts back

https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2012-10-23/top-10-shonen-jump-manga-by-all-time-volume-sales SLAM DUNK number in 2011 (official source)

the 121 million is from official source in 2014 (JAPAN only)

The 153 million reports by multiple outlet BUT NO SOURCE (literally the source they have on Wikipedia links back to the 2014 article)

the 170 million is from this tweet in 2017 and is WORLDWIDE number
the person who runs the account at the time was Heiji, and Heiji was a prominent member of this thread (and the site in general), but again still no source of the actual number.

Note the "170 million" doesn't include the SLAM DUNK refurbished, as that comes out later that year. The 50 million copies world wide also doesn't add up, since even the behemoth One Piece back in 2018 only has 75 million copies world wide (365 Japan, 440 world wide). Bleach only has 30 million copies sold worldwide, and I don't think Slam Dunk is more popular than Bleach

Now if you only believe in official source then
should be 121 million + (the number of circulation that refurbished edition get, in 2018 it sold 5.2 million copies (so around 7~10 million copies in circulation)
So the number should be between 128~131 million max

When Dragon Ball ended in 1995 how many sales it had with it's 42 volumes + was One Piece already bigger than DB when it had 42 volumes?

One piece in 2006(volume 42) had 126 million copies in print.

Dragon ball when it ended I honestly don't know

One Piece at 42 volumes > Dragonball at 42 volumes during DB initial print
The reason is simple, One Piece 24 beat Slam Dunk 2.5 million initial print record for volume 21-23. Whatever number DB volume had at the time of its serialization, it couldn't exceed 2.5 million initial print.

For now I take the doubling, better than nothing after all. Such things need times. If we keep seeing increases with Vol.4 and onward then all is good for the next year/two years.

surprised jujutsu is doing that well but is still basically an unknown and unpopular thing out of jpn

guess id say the same for demon slayer, doesn't really appear to be the next BLeach, Naruto, or even HeroAca out of jpn either sad.

Dunno. Kimetsu no Yaiba was two days ago Trending Topic in Spain when both anime and movie got licensed. I recall Jujutsu Kaisen also was TT when episode 1 aired.

I'm curious about spanish TTs next week or in two weeks, when we get the big Gojo moment.

Would be intriguing to see how some reveals in the coming JK episodes affect the sales.
