Introduction
So...we all know the hexagram. But Togashi introduced a fun concept on top of what we know: subcategories (Chapter 375). Subcategories are not types of Nen, just types of techniques of Nen. They don't depend (or at least it seems this way) on the Hatsu. All of them are introduced with the word gata (type) at the end. Names and translations may vary depending on where did you read it.
These subcategories can coexist with each other. For example, the Bombers were a Curse-Collaborative kind of Nen. And Greed Island was formed with...well, I assume all.
And I believe there is way more to say about this...What about those techniques that mess with Nen-spaces? Knov and Luini for example. What about Morel and Melody, what subcategories are them? I doubt they fall into nothing as their techniques are far from basic stuff. Gon, on the other hand, seems that fall into no subcategory as his technique is quite simple. Same as Killua and Hisoka. Do they have a category anyway or Hastu definition is sufficient?
Current Subcategories
These are all we know so far:
Reorganizing
So, let's first better group the subcategories. Notice that I will add some concepts and I'm making TONS of assumptions, so feel free to add or reinterpret this as you see fit. I made this because I'm bored, and Nen classification is fun (?).
Possible new types
So what about Morel, Melody, Knov? Or even Franklin. So, maybe we can add some more types! Join the discussion and propose your own!
Combat Type: User manifest a weapon-like object, either as a separate entity or imbued on target's body. Think on Kurapika Chains, Franklin Bullets, or Kite multiple weapon. MAYBE Killua lighting, but I'm unsure about it. The goal of this particular type is to use Nen focused on combat (as its main goal, we saw that you can fight with everything in HxH) We could also talk about separate categories:
- Close Combat Type: MAYBE Jajanken? Or Killua Thunder God.
- Range Combat: Franklin Bullets FTW.
Spatial Type: User can create/travel trough/use a Nen-made space. Notable users are Knov, Cheetu.

Current Subcategories
These are all we know so far:
- Coercive: Total control of the target. A notable example is Illumi or Shalnark.
- Pseudo-coercive: Leaves no choice to the target but to do whatever condition was imposed.
- Collaborative: Using someone else to activate an ability. Tsubone comes to mind.
- Soliciting: Nen that allows free will of the target but leaves a condition that works in favor of the target.
- Symbiotic: Requires multiple people to perform a particular part of the technique, so the result is greater than the sum of parts.
- Fellowship: When it acts in a whole group instead of a particular target. Morena Prude is a good example.
- Compound: Not so many details on this one, but I believe that refers to overly ruled techniques that allow multiple effects.
- Counteractive: Nen's reaction to something else. If you ask me, Nobunaga seems this kind as well, as He's always waiting for the enemy to react to his en.
- Curse: The one we know the most about it. Kurapika, Knuckle, etc. Meet the condition and suffer the curse.
- Haunting: This seems to be a particular type of Curse, with its more relevant property is to be after death. (Page 16 of 389)
- Parasitic: Conjured beings of Nen that works similar to Curses, but not necessarily prejudicial. We know of this type through the Seed Urn effects.
- Scatter-Gather: Also known as Diffusive Levy (Wiki) but I like this name more. The idea is to scatter your aura to gather later. This can be tricky but besides Tyson, the other one that does this is Shaiapuf (His Spiritual Message and Beelzebub fits this concept).
- Exorcism: Removal of Nen. Notable users are Abengane. I wonder if this could also apply for users who can counter Coercive type of techniques
- Induction: Nen that allows people to have a bias for the target. Sale-sale is the main user for this, but Tyson technique also fits here.
- Loan: You lend someone a technique. I'm not sure if Leol would also fit here, as He coerces others to lend them their ability.
- Nen Beast: Nen constructs with different effects. This particular type may be broader, we will attempt to classify this a bit more later
- Double: The most boring of all Nen techniques, making a double out of someone. Kastro and Hanzo are notable users.
- Supportive: Nen that is used to buff others. Besides our boy Bill, I believe that Illumi's special needles fits here as well or Meleoron Perfect Plan.

- Control Type (Not Manipulation, as this implies controlling someone else and not an object)
- Coercive
- Pseudo-coercive
- Induction
- Community Type (Nen that depends or can be used on more than the original user)
- Collaborative
- Soliciting
- Symbiotic
- Fellowship
- Supportive
- Legal Type (Nen that depends on conditions, limits, and bows)
- Compound
- Counteractive
- Exorcism (Mostly put this here as it's always dependant on rules and the number of rules to be fulfilled seems to change with the curse to be removed)
- Curse Type
- Haunting
- Parasitic
- Absorb Type (You keep the target abilities. Think of Meruem, Chrollo, and Kurapika)
- Loan/Transfer (I add the transfer term here, as I believe fits better. Also, Benjamin owns technique may fall under this)
- Steal (Chrollo and Meruem)
- Clone (Here is a long stretch, but I believe that Ging is able to clone techniques by understanding them)
- Nen Construct (Changed over Beast, so it's more general)
- Double
- Predictable: It's always the same (Think Razor, Neferpitou, Goreinu, Biscuit, Neon, etc) and always have the same effect.
- Adaptable: Its shape and power will depend on the target. Seed urn and Abengane fits here. It's context dependant.
- Scatter-Gathered (Put here as we only know this technique through the usage of nen beasts). A particular kind of nen beast able to disperse to activate its effects.
