The anime was unbearable imo (only finishing S1 was pain) but I heard the novel is better so will have to give it an eternal "benefit of the doubt" I guess.

You kinda almost hurt me (that Rein vote button got pretty shaky there for a moment) but yes, the novel is in a different league
Still if you struggled that much with the anime (especially with S1 which was the most decent despite the heavy cuts) i cant really recommend the novel while its waaay deeper and with more content, its basically the same story and characters

Yeah the story didn't "catch me" in any sense, these stories with overpowered mcs showing off are just not my cup of tea, it can be for other people tho.

I also get the novel goes better into the "behind the scenes", with more worldbuilding I guess, but the base plot just doesn't do the trick for me.

Fair enough although "overpowered mcs showing off" is not what makes Ainz and the story work and make it great. At a certain novel, you can see that everything around the main cast, the world, Ainz's idiocy, the ticking time tomb that is Nazarick and the NPCs, and the mc actually being the villain of the story, is what makes it great imo. But i can understand your opinion, i pretty much had it with Kirito characters as well lol (which Ainz is not)

If Subaru and Emilya can make Regulus enjoy wet chocolate cake so does Aizen. KS is invincible because you dont even see when it was used unless you have some mental defense or Aizen snap you out of it.
But yeah Ilya won, Regulus can watch and enjoy for all I care.

You poor naive child. Those of us that have watched Yashahime know the true limits of human endurance. During those TWO COURS I learned a lot about what unbearable truly means.

Overlord isn't for everybody. I feel like what that show is really about flies right over the head of people without particular tastes. Through no fault of their own. It's just targeted at a niche to begin with. I'm constantly surprised by how popular it's become. Even if I think it's one of the absolute best LNs around.

Current Natsu who's a wizard demon dragon brawler is way above Erza. But I will not discuss it here, let's wait.

I said that in context to this current fad of FT characters here, "Because she's Erza" and Natsu's "Nakama powers"(this can be said to be applicable for most of FT in general). As of now, I think the former would triumph the later. That is what's concerning here. I wasn't referring to their actual powerlevels. Agreed that this can wait for later.​

Whatever do you mean? Regulus was defeated by hands of Reinhard, yet another broken character, with the aid of Subaru and Emilia. They exploited the weakess that lied within his wives, before which he was effectively invincible(authors words not mine). Suggesting otherwise would be factually incorrect.​

See, you still don't get Regulus. The act freezing his own time has turned him into a walking anomaly, a distortion in space itself. He is immune to any and all form of interference that exists in the natural flow of time, which includes anything Aizen could dish out.​

There will be no need for any of that. You see, this isn't about a power struggle, anything that Aizen throws simply won't reach Regulus who exists in a different timeline as a result of his "Stillness", whereas every action, skill, movement Aizen makes is bound to the natural flow of time. They will not interact. Regulus's offense is an extension of his Stillness of time itself, so everything you've heard so far about Regulus "defence" is applicable for his offence too. So basically coming in contact with any object that is cut off from the natural flow of time time can leave destructive and devastating effects, as they negate durability and defy the laws of physics, and yet they still can't reach Regulus either. It's because their time will be frozen at different points.​

Although it's meaningless now, but nevertheless decided to addresses these few points. I will not be adding anything beyond this. Good for little Illyasviel that she made it to the next round but I don't agree that she could beat Regulus or handle Aizen better than him.​

As I said earlier, he's a demon and a 'dragon' now. He got a power up when he consumed Igneel's son flames (which felt like Igneel's) to the point that Lucy said that Natsu's new flames can now burn the sea, the earth and the sky. All that while he was beating the crap out of a gigantic Dragon God. Not only that he also have a lot of other 'consumed' power in himself, like Laxus' lightning, Zancrow's God Slayer Flame, Atla's Hell Flame... His overall physical strength, endurance and speed/reflex went up to the point that he could match another Dragon God, dodge point blank blasts and resist his body gettin pierced by a bunch of magical spikes. Said Dragon God is Aldoran who's basically a walking country and Natsu destroyed him (both brain/avatar and main body) with a single punch. Tbh I don't even know if I'll really show up on the second round now that Wild Rift released (sorry ), but with that I want to point out that Reinhard doesn't win by a landslide in a power contest. Not anymore. Pre 100 yr quest Natsu? Maybe. Currently no.

By the hands of Reinhard with the help of Emilia and Subaru. Reinhard alone couldn't do it. That's what I meant to say. I'm up to date with the novel I think. Regulus is a megalomanic and his superiority complex is what 'felled' him if I remember correctly. That's why I spoke for Ilya, tbh. Not only she have the tools, but his personality is a drag too.

About Aizen, after the Hogyoku he became some kind of 4 dimensional being plus as someone said on an earlier reply he could simply overpower anything with his Reiatsu - it's one of his many bs power. Nothing is out of his reach. He is bound to a prison in the afterlife and can still sense things that happen in the real world. Also Kurohitsugi have the power to distort gravity, space and time and Aizen can use it while sitting on a chair that seal most of his powers (althought after a certain amount of mental training in a 'tranquil' place his prison ambience provided). The 1v1 will happen in a situation where both fighters will be free to use anything they ever had in their disposal accordin to lore. Really. Unless you have the same amount (or near) of spiritual pressure as him, your body would crumble by proximity. The only reasson Ichigo could fight with him on equal grounds for some period of time was because he was a Quincy Shinigami Hollow from the start and the power up he got was some kind of wild card where his full potential would be avaliable if he sacrificed his future. Eventually even Ichigo run out of power and wasn't it for Urahara's seal - who only worked due to the villain weakened temporary state - the hogyoku could simply regen Aizen again. The guy can't be killed and had to be sealed, Mayuri is doing his best to keep it but for how long? That's why I mentioned earlier that berserker and emiya class card could deal with the KS illusion power due to the Mind's Eye skill/ability. But the Reaitsu and all other bullshit? I'll need to research deeper if I want to defend Ilya again.

Im sure the novel is better (else there wouldnt be so much people speaking well of it) but the anime just didnt give a good impression at all, felt like watching the wet dream of a teenager hooked to mmos lol. The dark ambience and themes didnt quite get through either since they felt like afterthoughts or showoff scenes instead of proper developments with impact in the plot.

Novel surely handled that better tho so as I said: benefit of the doubt, won't delve into it.
