BB: Aghp! Don’t stop in the middle! That was nice, but I feel like this series might be more fun to read in bulk.

Ball Parade: The story was okay… but I’m not feeling the villain. And I doubt it was intentional, but that last panel says it all: we have five characters that matter (the ones that were there from the start) and the rest isn’t even important enough to show up in the background.

Candy Flurry: Better than last chapter. But honestly, they should’ve done this in chapter 2 instead of doing the same thing over again.

Sakamoto: So we’re doing a videogame with different levels and spells? Cool, I’m up for that.

Mashle: No, no, don’t guess. Just let them talk until you can figure out from context clues where you’ve seen them before. Or better yet, just ignore it and hope they never bring it up again. (I have a terrible memory for faces, so this happens to me a lot.) Great chapter; I like how professional they all are, swinging right into action without asking questions.

17. Mashle: A great Mashle chapter for its lovers, I guess. Unfortunately I lost my love for the series. All I can see is Mash finding a new absurd way to overcome the difficulty with his muscles and...hey, he has a point there. Who the hell was that guy, I thought he was new?
He was the endboss in the last arc.

Dr Stone: LOL! I love his complete lack of modesty. Finally a lighter chapter... until they drop that massive bombshell on us. Though really, I don’t think it’s such a bad thing, since there’s no reason to believe it will stop aging, so you’ll just be saving people who fell to illness or violence and our modern medicine is doing a pretty good job with that already without anyone protesting.

Roboco: Was that an Avatar reference?

BC: That’s a nice pose at the end. Totally deserved, too.

TES: Hey look, we just accidently wandered into yet another supernaturally skilled child prodigy who just so happens to be looking for a team to join. What are the odds.

Yozakura: Nice cooperation! I’m even appreciating the big brother now. The last part was a little confusing, but it looks like we’ll be wrapping up this arc in the next wo chapters or so.

UU: I always wondered why this wasn’t a problem with senzu beans. I don’t mind the colour swap, but having that thing in your face all the time seems impractical.

I tell c: The plot is okay, but the two main characters actively annoy me every time they show up. Can we get a series about phantom thief lady instead? I feel like that would be far more enjoyable.

C&D: Ouch, my heart. But, er, yeah, someone doesn’t know how to talk to children.

Kind of annoyed Dr. Stone spit in my face for caring about something to twist it on me.
Care to elaborate? I’m kinda curious now.

What do you guys think about Ame no furu? I haven't read it past chapter 1
It’s starting to remind me of Guardian of the Witch. Decent first chapter and the potential to make it work, but too slow and unoriginal after that.

I mean, Monster8 started out with the same basic story elements, but they were halfway the exam at this point.

So, question, of Jump's "fifth generation" (or current, doesn't really matter), which do you think has been the most impressive?

Current pool:
  • Mission: Yozakura Family
  • Undead Unluck
  • Mashle
  • Ayakashi Triangle
  • Sakamoto Days (Tentative)
  • The Elusive Samurai
  • Witch Watch (Tentative)
  • Blue Box (Tentative)
  • Sakamoto Days (Tentative)
  • Undead Unluck
  • Mission: Yozakura Family / Mashle
  • Blue Box (Tentative)
  • Ayakashi Triangle / The Elusive Samurai / Witch Watch (Tentative)

I recommend eh, then let's complain about the "bad Jump and Nack the Hack not giving him the cover ..." If this is the result ....

Another one ? He had one of a month three chapters ago.
The weekly manga industry is already inhumane. Honestly a truly healthy, and humane manga release schedule should be something like 1 20-30 page chapter every 3-4 weeks.
As an artist myself, I couldn’t imagine pumping out 2 or 3 pages at the quality of a MHA, or One Piece in a week. I can’t imagine how mangaka are able to pump out 20 page chapter in a week. That’s not even including when they have to do color pages, the Jump cover and LCP, and other stuff.

Anyway, mangaka should be allowed as many breaks as they want. Honestly my suggestion would be that if we absolutely NEED to keep this weekly train going, mangaka should get to work on manga for the length of a volume, then get a month or 2 break.

Are you seriously saying this just a week after Kentaro Miura's official passing.

Are you serious.

It is extremely likely that Kentaro Mirua's death was due, at least in part, to overwork and not getting enough rest as a manga artist.

When you consider that Miura had a much less demanding schedule than most mangaka in WSJ, it shows why people should not complain even if Gege took a break for three months. Manga artists are real people with real lives, and their health is more important than anything else.

Many people forget this and act like manga artists don't deserve any breaks. Even if Gege took a break three chapters ago, if his art is still struggling it should be obvious that one week wasn't enough for his current workload.

Aside from the fact that miura wrote when Akutami was not even born, there are authors who have no problem keeping up with this rhythm.

What then recently an assistant of Miura also declared that his death is not linked to overwork

Volume 18
1 3-layered Acrylic Stand
32 Character Charm Keychains
2022 Calender Sheets
Ballchain for Keychains
Price: ¥3850 inclusive tax

Volume 19
Silicon Mold of Ryoumen Sukuna's Finger
Sealing Cloth of Ryoumen Sukuna's Finger
Prison Realm
Nanamin Kento's Cursed Tool
Mini Mechamaru left by Muta Koukichi
13 'On Site' Photographs of Shibuya Incident

PS: Also, this confirms that besides volume 16, we have only 1 more volume left for 2021 Oricon year. If Kimetsu season 2 generates a very strong backlog in October, I can see JJK losing the 1st place it will very likely get in July.

Honestly I doubt Kimetsu is going get good boost from new anime. It feels like its has already got all the boost in the world. Jujutsu is the one that probably going to get second wave boost from a movie. Though its a story for next year.

I don't know, you have to see how strong this backlog will be.

I think Franz was just suggesting that he might not be fit for a weekly schedule after all. Unless they give Gege an Oda-like status where he can have a break every month, then, if he keeps having difficulties, they might consider a change of magazine. I doubt it is going to happen though due to JJK's current role in the magazine.

It is not a matter of whether WE think he deserves a break. This is how the magazine works.
Personally, I do not have any issue with WSJ giving everyone a break every month.

I’m not a medical expert, nor did I personally know Miura like this assistant(obviously). But regardless of what this assistant says, a lot of manga artist develop health issues over time due to the lifestyle.
im sure a didn’t die from be overwork in the present. But I think most ppl are suggesting that his health issues may have been a result of decades working intense work schedules, and not properly attending to said health issues due to the intense life style. So most believe that he indirectly died from being overworked

I don't think he has such serious problems as to require the manga to change magazines

Gege has earned the right to a Oda like schedule if he wants it, don't run your biggest ongoing series creator into the ground to squeeze out an extra volume this year
I don’t think it’s a matter of “earning the right”. Every mangaka in the magazine should have the right for a more flexible schedule

But in the end Tabata and Horikoshi also let out chapters with sketched drawings, two chapters ago Tabata did too.

If they need breaks they will just take them when the time comes ....

It would be enough not to make colors and covers .....

Jump published a 35 minute drawing video with Yabuki and the VA of Lala today, showing Yabuki's drawing process.
Resorting to dragging TLR to promote AT eh? Reeks of desperation honestly. Hell the first thing in the title is the TLR name.

True, but Tabata and Horikoshi also eventually needed reduced chapters (17 pages to 12 pages) to keep up with the workload. I think some of Tabata's sketched pages were on those reduced chapters, too. I think if they were allowed to take more breaks then this might not have happened to them. It took Horikoshi months to work back up to his normal chapter length.

There may be authors that can keep up with this kind of schedule. But that doesn't mean that everyone should have to. When Gege, Tabata, or Horikoshi show signs of fatigue after years of drawing, that is not an excuse to point to authors who are not showing fatigue and say "they should be like that". It is better for everyone-- authors, readers, and the magazine as a whole-- if authors are well-rested, healthy, and working at their best.

After all, when popular authors like Gege or Horikoshi take "breaks", it's not like they have a week of rest. They have artbooks, interviews, anime, and countless other projects they have to consult for and work on. It isn't just colors and covers.
