I dont think its hints it can be shorter. Only longer.
If they have specified that it will be a month, they are evidently certain that in this month he will be able to get back in shape enough to draw a chapter or two.

Best wishes to Gege Akutami for a rapid recovery.

I hope people will finally understand that sometimes the decisions regarding a series (like CPs, promotional material, ending it) do not simply depend on how well they are received from the readers, the editors or how much money they make. Similarly, if another series gets the spotlight instead.
Not every mangaka works in the same way and from the outside we know very little about them.

I dont believe he's "completely fine" it's so that people don't worry much about him. If he risk to hit like togashi, I hope he can complete his manga on a high note

Not serious issue wouldnt require one month break if you ask me... I hope I am wrong though
For an mangaka, not really because they deserve several breaks regardless for being on a weekly schedule. But if it happends again but with several months, for example tower of god. Than its an serious problem

As mentioned, we hope that he uses this month to rest properly and recover completely.

I believe CPs are early indicators of popularity and exposure if you will. If you’re a Jump mangaka in year 2-3 and hoping for a long serialization, doing CPs could help you out a lot. That’s why younger and less experienced mangaka would jump at the chance to do more CPs so long as their body allows them to. But once you’ve stabilized like Horikoshi and Gege, you can afford to cut back on them and make them sparingly, for certain occasions, such as movie promotions for example.

So it’s a matter of how much they can afford to not do them. Remember, Jump’s competition is incredibly stiff. Any chance you can do a little extra promotion, you take it. Of course, self-promoting is probably easier to do so nowadays with social media.

A side note, I can imagine that even once returning, we may see Gege go in the same route as Horikoshi and only doing covers and color pages for big occasions like the anime coming back, and anniversaries.

I imagine we’ll be seeing other series like Sakamoto, Mashle, & Elusive SamuraI start getting more covers this year

Good place for Blue box and Candy flush (I didn't expect that honestly)
Mashle is getting a Cover, nice news. I hope the other series will get one soon ( Magu chan, Roboco, Undead and HSF)

Only best wishes for Gege-sensei!

Jujutsu Kaisen's Hiatus Notice:
"To our readers. Thank you for always reading Jujutsu Kaisen. Due to the poor physical condition of Akutami Gege, Jujutsu Kaisen will be absent for some time from the next issue onward. Akutami wanted to continue writing, but after several discussions with the editorial department, it has been decided that it’s better for Akutami to take a break for a certain period of time. We determined it was the best decision for the mangaka to recover their physical condition."

From Akutami Gege:
"I have been asked by the editorial department to take a break from the series, but I don’t want to slow down the weekly serialization of Jujutsu Kaisen since I’d like to draw the end of the series as soon as possible, and just put a hold on my answer. However, I’m just not able to recover my schedule compared to other mangaka when they take a single break. If nothing is done about this, the same thing will be repeated over and over again, so I decided to accept the proposal from the editorial department. The suspension period should be about one month. Even if I say I’m sick, it’s not any serious illness. My mental health is completely fine, so do not worry about it. I’m really sorry I’ll have to keep you waiting. Once I come back, I’ll do my best with the serialization."

What you say is true.
I meant that we, as readers, do not know the exact reason why a series gets more covers, color pages or similar promotional material than others. Popularity is a major factor, but, especially for established series, it often brings along a lot of stuff to take care of which reduces the time you can dedicate to color pages. I believe this must be especially true for authors who have to take care of both the story and the art of their series like Akutami.

I have no doubts that at the beginning of their careers they won't turn down any possibility of promoting their series. I think Akutami, who is working on his first long series, was doing the same, but, it seems that WSJ understood that the situation was getting worse.
Would they have done this for a series which was just starting? Maybe not, but it is hard to judge from the outside.

The writing has been on the wall for a while now for Gege, hope he takes as long as he needs. His comment reads as downplaying what could be something more serious, especially if he already refused offers for a hiatus before now. At least the editorial department seem to be looking out for him and this would explain the delayed anniversary cover and the overall lack of colour pages this year. Will be a shame not to have JJK running while it's (imo) probably the best series with its current chapters but his health is much more important.

As for the TOC, the top four being the exact same two weeks in a row (1) Dr. Stone (2) One Piece (3) Jujutsu Kaisen (4) My Hero Academia is interesting, but we're not going to see that for a while now. Mission: Yozakura Family also at 9th place for third week in a row too. Witch Watch in the bottom 5 for the third week in a row isn't good news either, but it's getting another CP and the volume sales haven't been terrible so far.

Like others have said it will be interesting to see the TOC next week, especially with just 13 series ranked and only one of them (MHA) a veteran.

8th place for Candy Flurry may not seem bad but it's also the same first ranking as Build King and just one above Our Blood Oath, I tell c, and Nine Dragons, so the next couple weeks will be telling.

Candy Flurry starting around the middle like I figured, now to see if it follows the recent flops and drops to the bottom by ch 11 or if it somehow manages to hang above some longer stuff.

I'm very curious to see what next week's top 5 will look like with two of the core 5 series on break and another with a colour page.

Sad for JJK. Looks like our worries weeks ago proved to be warranted.

Could be something like a tendon infection. It's a pretty minor thing and you don't feel sick, but it takes a while to heal and it will absolutely get worse if you keep forcing yourself to use that hand. I made the same mistake before, thinking it would go away if I was just a little careful, but eventually it got to the point where I had to take a long break because it just kept dragging on.

Also, "I’d like to draw the end of the series as soon as possible"? Does that mean JJK is ending?

He mentions that it's not a 'serious illness' but since he already refused a hiatus offer earlier and he was trying to take single breaks to make up for it I wouldn't be surprised if he requires longer than the month estimate, which is in agreement with what you and others said earlier.

Also, mentioning the obvious signs that Gege was taking breaks, talked about not drawing backgrounds in his TOC comments, not getting many colour pages when we thought it made most sense, and recently releasing unfinished pages isn't exaggerating when plenty of us could see something was off. It's fine to admit when it looks like he needed the time off so even if its unfortunate news I doubt anyone keeping up weekly would be that shocked with this announcement.

In the JJK fanbook which released in march (think the interview was conducted months before then) he said the series would wrap up in less than 2 years so barring super extended hiatus yeah

I’ll just put my two cents here: I think they know CPs are opportunities rookies can’t refuse. So they don’t really stop them from doing so. That was in the past though. Nowadays, Jump editors are probably more cautious, so they won’t stop rookies from taking on CPs unless it’s made absolutely clear that their health isn’t keeping up.

I think they’ve hired professional help fairly recently, so there’s a medical professional on hand to give a honest and fair judgement on their mangakas’ health.

Where did you get any indication or hint for this?

If he wrote that it is nothing serious, it is nothing serious.

People bandage their heads before they break it in my opinion.

Yes, a few months ago he said that the manga would be finished in about two years
