Couldn't find an existing thread for this, so I figured I'd make one myself.

I want to know what your favourite power ups are, and likewise what your least favourite ones are. What transformation did you find cool/hype? What form filled you to the brim with hate/despair? Of course any power-up is allowed, from both the heroes' and villains' side.

I'll start. My favourite power-up is dragonization. I've always found dragons cool and I like the idea of the slayers going through such a monsterous/dramatic transformation into an entirely different species. Acno's dragon form in particular looked really cool and really did give off those 'final villain' vibes.

I'm also a fan of Zeref's Fairy Heart transformation. The design was nice and his power over time itself was awesome.

I was not a fan of Acno's ROT boost. He was already the strongest character by a huge margin and did not need this. Natsu's E.N.D form was also pretty underwhelming for all the hype it got. I liked the shading he got around his eyes, as well as his demon claws, but him becoming a Zeref-hunting drone was 'meh' and his feats against Gray were pretty lame imo.

Most power ups in fairy tails were horribly trash.

Gajeel is my favorite and his power up was based on what natsu could do. Which I thought was BS but since natsu set the mole for it then I’ll digress. Though when Gajeel and Natsu when dual dragon slayer mode together was in my top 5 FT moments. Silver taking Gray was another. Silver freezing Asta was another. Gajeel confessing his love was another and honestly when anybody gets enraged I love it. Like when Makrov was accepting Gajeel and Gajeel was like “but I hurt your children” and makarov demon came out for a second “that I will never forgive”. Those random angry moments that give me shivers.

so Gajeel is my favorite. Wendy power ups are my second even in the manga. With her and Irene. Any power up dealing with Ezra I hate.

My favorite power ups are Lucy's Star Dress evolutions. It's an amazing concept!

And Erza's are my least favorite. I don't get how she has an unlimited access to armors that conveniently pop up in every single battle.

That’s the thing duel element for example isn’t great but at least it’s something other dragon slayers can do it unlike some power ups Natsu gets

Natsu's FDK Mode is sort of in the middle for me. When he enters it, it's pretty cool/hype with all the flames bursting through the ground, but the fact that there's no change or anything to his appearance is kinda lame. Something like a constant flame aura would've been pretty cool imo

I agree. High-Enchant is way too convenient of a power-up and should not have been given to a main character. It really takes the tension out of big moments like simply reverting Nebaru's dragonization before we could see the full form + it made the concept of Dragon Slayer magic irrelevant, 'cause now just anyone who Wendy wants to can be a DS

Pretty sure you're saying this because you're mad because I don't like Wendy's bs enchants which is why you can't even spell her name properly.

And Lucy's Star Dresses aren't really that. They don't even share the same abilties to begin with, and Lucy doesn't have a hundred SDs in her arsenal.

Laxus is about to get a powerup up to defeat Kirin by freeing the soul of Lightning Dragon King. He'll have both heart & soul. This'll make him equal to or greater than Gildarts in magic power.

It literally just looked like Laxus ate magic power, then decided to tack on the words "Lightning Dragon King's" in front of a standard red lightning attack. At least FDK attacks have a massive build-up of flames before and after hitting the opponent

Well here's a number of issues with that argument.

1) Natsu is gathering flames, and Laxus is gathering Lightning. I mean, the fact they dedicated an extra panel to him gathering lighting before the attack is something new but it makes sense that he just has bolts of lightning going off his arm and not a massive whirlwind of flame.

2) Kirin isn't even doing a special king attack, he just blitzed him. Like he pummeled him in that panel.

3) The AOE is the same. Laxus sends force and lighting out for these attacks and both fill the space before them. They continue to draw his attacks like this, but remember the duel with Erza where we finally saw what that attack looks like from a different angle.

Gray's Devil Slayer Magic is the best and the most organic power up. As much as posible It was due to Gray's history, his background (Silver T.T.) Moreover DeS magic is much more unique than, for example, Dragon Slayer or even God Slayer Magic. And Gray was waiting for his first power up longer than others.
Finally, Gray looks like sex with black marks and Silver's hairstyle

The only problem I have with it is Silver reason why he picked ice as his element .he said he picked ice because END was a fire demon expect ice is normally supposed to be weak to fire in the story so does DeS magic not work the same way as regular magic does. So if it does wouldn’t wind or water be better

Lucy Star Dress and Star Dress Mix its a great concept and i love it. I really want to see new powers and combinations and that's why I'm always hyped for Lucy fights.

Stardress was a great concept that was poorly executed. First off it should never cost more magic than summoning the spirits because it only uses a portion of their power. Secondly the attacks themselves should only cost as much magic as Lucy herself puts into them. There is no reason that Aquarius x Gemini should only last 15 seconds when magic wise the form itself shouldn't cost her a lot of power nor should the basic water attacks. Gottified I can see being magically consuming but the form itself shouldn't be.

In concept Stardress was meant to help Lucy better fight along side her spirits and reserve magical power. Stardress mix on the other hand should have been for versatility and adaptability. Like some battle examples:

• Lucy(Aquarius x Cancer) vs Flare: Be less magically consuming than summoning Aquarius and Cancer but still would allow her to access a fraction of their power which when combined allows her to adapt to Flares Hair fire by negating the hair with Cancer swords and the fire with Aquarius water
• Lucy(Leo x Horologium) vs Jacob: Allows her to negate Jacob stealth magic with Leo light magic while having an immunity towards Jacobs spacial magic via Hologium magic.
• Lucy(Leo x Gemini) vs Brandish or Kyria: Gemini transformation magic and Leo light magic combine to allow Lucy to transform into light. Since light has no mass Lucy can become immune towards Brandish mass manipulation and she light move extremely fast dodging Kyria attacks becoming much easier.

So for me it had potential to be great but the way Hiro executed it made it fall flat. It has the flash with nice big spells but lacks substance. The forms shouldn't be based on strength but adaptability to the situations. Not to say her forms couldn't have uber spells like Urano Metria but I would think those would be Spirit x Crux forms who has access to the celestial data base and uber celestial spells like Meteor Blade or infinite starlight.
