Actually Musashi IS Fate isekai. Just into the Fate universe as opposed to the other way around. So as soon as she gets and anime we'll be there. And she needs her own anime. And her own Alter. So we can a goth-y looking red haired Musashi so Sam can build a literal shrine to her in front of his house. Which would be the only reasonable thing to do, really.

I've already gotten started on the shrine with a few figures in possession

Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works

The anime version of the Unlimited Blade Works route : D I already talked about the movie before - the new anime is infinitely better. For one thing, it initiated a second rise in popularity for Fate, before FGO exploded. It's also done by ufotable, who outdid themselves again. There's a lot this anime does right, and you can argue that it's easily among the best Visual Novel adaptations (bc most of them are shit), but it's also far from perfect.

One thing it doesn't do is properly explain Shirou, but I understand that making inner thoughts look interesting is hard to pull off in anime. Still could've added some more for sure.

My main gripe is actually how they almost entirely rewrote the Archer vs Shirou conflict (just wtf are those huge swords). I didn't like this one bit, because while it did have some good moments, it turned into something flashy and even cringy at times, when it was supposed to be an intense, personal battle. For example, in the VN Archer never uses UBW/his Noble Phantasm in the fight against Shirou. Yeah, you heard that right.

It was actually the author's idea to change this scene for the anime, and he's probably right that for the anime it had to be more flashy, but for me this is what I prefer.
The Gilgamesh vs Shirou fight on the other hand got me hyped though, the great version of "Emiya" helped a lot :3

Visually the anime obviously was great, and I think it serves as a perfectly fine introduction to Fate/Stay Night for those who don't want to bother with the VN. In that case I would still always recommend to watch Fate/Zero as your first Fate anime, though, it's simply a better adaptation all things considered, and shows you what Fate is capable of (though for me Fate/Stay Night as a whole is better than Zero).

Okay, let's get this out right away. Yes there's a lot of lolibait in this, especially in the beginning. Either you like that kinda fanservice, you accept it, or you just don't read/watch it. Heck, I myself watched it only after it aired, because just look at the picture... I thought this would be lolibait trash or something back then lol. But then I heard it's pretty good, gave it a watch, and wasn't disappointed. The story starts pretty light-hearted, but becomes more and more serious until eventually you had memes like this:

So yeah, if you think you can deal with a bunch of fanservice involving lolis, you're in for a treat, especially later on. There's almost 0 fanservice in the last 30 chapters or so, so you can rest assured it's going to be less and less as you keep reading and/or watching : D

That being said, it has a really cool idea of "Servant Cards" you can basically equip to yourself. This is where the pictures of Illya in a Saber dress are from for example. It's a really fun and fresh concept, that has a lot of throwbacks to FSN and other series.

As the name implies, you get a lot of Illya focus, but the same goes for other characters like a young Gilgamesh, Shirou, and more. There's also a surprisingly high number of BIG twists in this series. It's easily one of the best Fate manga around, so I can wholeheartedly recommend it. The beginning probably is the weakest part, and it only gets better and better from there on. Pro tip: Only watch the first two seasons and then switch to the manga (called "Fate Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya 3rei"), because with Season 3 the anime sadly got worse and the manga art gets a lot better. They did Shirou dirty in the anime, I swear

Musashi not being in the top ten, for shame! But seriously, Musashi is pretty great in both design and feats. It's a real shame she hasn't been allowed to appear in any other medias, especially since with her unique ability of dimensional travel, she would canonically be the same character. Also, her swimsuit version is top tier...

While not enough for this list, I do really like Okita. As mentioned, she's pretty cool when it comes to fighting, and her buddy cop routine with Nobu is hilarious. Wonderful that she was finally allowed a swimsuit version lol.

From her introduction, Abigail became one of my favorites, partly because of her design, and partly because I'm a huge Lovecraft fan. It didn't hurt that the storyline she was a part of was pretty interesting. Both versions of her have really cool NPs. I also like how we get shown her developing relationships with several minor characters. And I love her travel appearance...

Just don't. No fancy reason for it. It's one of those genres like sports anime I just never cared for. Nothing against it, just personally doesn't work for me.

As Demon pointed out in Rereators I did really like Mamika. But that's sort of a different thing since that character is taken out of her genre. Which is probably why she appealed more to me.

Now that I think about it I am not sure I really watched Traditional Magical Girl series besides Tokyo Mew Mew I think. Nowadays it seems that people just borrow the theme and deconstruct it.

Madoka is definitely not traditional. I watched Mahou Shoujou Ikusei Keikaku and read the novel and it's not traditional either. Didn't dislike Sailor Moon Crystal but I have yet to complete it.

I wanted to watch the Tokyo Mew Mew remake because I remember liking the show as a kid but I stopped after a few minutes.

Never watched a Precure series either.

About BB, can't dispute this ranking is deserved. I haven't played the games she's from but in FGO she's so weird and entertaining as this A-moral rogue AI girl. She wasn't on my list because I only really encountered her in FGO where she shows up twice in events. Where she still is great but it wasn't quite enough to kick anybody off my list.

Thus, the priest speaks. Seems like Kirei figured out our protagonist long before anyone else : D Outside of Gilgamesh, he's easily Fate's most iconic villain. Someone who followed in the footsteps of his father and tried his hardest to be a proper priest, only to realize that he can't fight against his nature.

After the events of Fate/Zero, he became even more of a cunning schemer, willing to do whatever it takes to make his own wish come true. He's a highly fascinating character who's hard to figure out, until you learn that he can't properly love anyone, and that the only thing that brings him joy is the suffering of others. Yet until the end he never really revels in it, because despite accepting his nature, he questions why someone like him was born. His driving force isn't actually explained until Heavens Feel, and I think they only did a subpar job of portraying that in the movies, but I'm still glad that people can finally see some of Kirei's best moments animated

That's not to say he doesn't do a LOT of evil stuff, and that he's very twisted in nature, but it's rare to see a villain who's accepted that he's "evil" and yet questions if he even deserves to live, or what his purpose in life could possibly be. At least in Fate/Stay Night... as for Zero, well.

Fun fact: Brandish originally nominated the normal Jeanne, but when I showed him pics of Alter he changed his mind :3 Perfectly reasonable, I would say.

Originally she was just a fake Servant of sorts in FGO, but when the developers realized she was among the most popular characters, they turned her into a proper Avenger Definitely a very good idea, Jeanne Alter was basically THE favourite Servant of almost everyone for a while, and she still is a top contender nowadays. With an absolute amazing design, and a personality 10 times as fun as the original Jeanne, she more than deserves her spot in 11th place. Can't say I'm surprised she's the highest-rated FGO only Servant on this list, and she almost made it into the Top 10 too.

Some might say she's edgy (yes, she is), but you can't deny that the concept of a literal saint who sacrificed herself turning evil is extremely cool And her powers just look badass af. Think this little comic will give you a good idea



Eventually they add more layers to her, turning her into a bit of a tsundere who's actually not so bad at heart. Works perfectly in my eyes, she's Jeanne after all. Outside of her character arc, she sadly doesn't get much attention in the FGO story anymore, but she does appear in events somewhat regularly at least, always providing a good time and funny moments. Chuuni Summer Jeanne Alter was nice

And people can even see her animated nowadays, with the release of Grand Carnival. Not much, but it's something. For now have some pics, and I'll see you all tomorrow.

Isn‘t it a bit sad that the Alter version of a character seems a lot more loved than the OG version?

As for Kotomine, it is indeed hard to figure him out. One of my favorite characters in Zero, while in Stay/Night and UBW he‘s.. not that great. Like he got less cool than he used to be, dying in rather silly preventable ways. Tho I won‘t pretend to know wtf his actual motivations were, he regardless fills his role really well and always a pleasure seeing him do stuff.

I didn't care much about Kirei in Zero but he is FSN. His interactions with the others are fun. He is pretty entertaining in the HF movies as well but things were a bit confusing near the end. His motivations weren't made clear.

Seems like he is a fan of Mapo Tofu? In Prillya he was the owner of a Mapo Tofu shop IIRC. Or was frequently seen eating it.

I like Jeanne more than most but there is just no question that the best Jeanne is Jeanne d'arc Alter.

Jalter's best feature, besides her great design, is the that she's a corrupted evil Jeanne. Which is especially great because being the evil incarnation of the nicest person in the universe makes her really bad at being evil. Much to her dismay her awkward attempts at being evil just end up being extra adorable.

If anything she's more normal than Jeanne is. And for those of you that can't stand Jeanne. There is nobody who can't stand Jeanne more than Jeanne Alter because in FGO the two of the interact with each other quite a lot. And it's always hilarious because Jalter is definitely the one with more common sense.

She'd be a legit contender for #1 if it weren't for the somewhat lean story offerings with her. Another one of those than needs to enter the world of anime at some point.

Kotomine Kirei I don't really get the appeal of. If anything I just consider him a mustache twirler who rides the coat tails of Gils charisma. The conflicted element is slightly interesting but at the end of the day it feels like window dressing to me. If I had to rate him in the totality of Fate characters I honestly think he'd be way down there. Not quite Shinji low, but low.

Kirei is a trash but in the end, I think he is a pretty interesting character. I do like the concept of a villain who simply enjoys people suffering and has no motivation beyond that to do his evil deeds. His journey to understanding his true self in FZ was good imo and especially his moments with Gil.
Still enjoyed watching his deaths every time, especially in UBW!

Shit, can't believe i forgot Kotomine. He's probably the best character in the damn franchise, I should have given him my 10. Like most characters in the Heaven's Feel movies, his characterization was shafted, his final fight with Shirou was kind of butchered too
