If you break it down and consider his growth, HK works as an Enhancer's ability for Netero. Though I was a firm believer that he was an Emitter before the reveal, but my logic from back then still applies. Transmutation and Emission are next to Enhancement.

The difference between him and Kastro is that he reached he fully developed his ability. Netero's prayer and hand motions are at the core of his ability. Kastro deliberately went for Conjuration and Manipulation like an idiot. The superior double's ability is Hanzo's.

I share your opinion regarding Pouf's ability.

Illumi's Spell can only work if he implants one of his needles in your head.

Erin probably listed SM because she likes the doll's design :lmao.
Wiki says Netero‘s buddha uses Manipulation in all attacks though.(+enhancement and emission)

Franklin‘s ability is a bit uninspired. Like a mafia shooting a machine gun. Though having had to cut off his fingers likely makes it pretty strong.

Bill‘s ability is kinda weird, never fully understood it‘s usefulness.

Indoor Fish is very cool. Would love to see it used more, and on a closed off ship it should be really strong.

Double is a fascinating ability narratively because the author does not often start by explaining the power system so thoroughly that they demonstrate a "bad" ability first. Sure, if Kastro had trained for another year, he would be more experienced with the ability. But he would never have mastered it the way a conjurer or manipulator could. Every now and again I see folks comparing Kastro to Netero (seeing they're both Enhancer who dipped into conjuration and manipulation), though I will say that Netero's power was tied to an activation condition + the statue was a static construct that more or less mimics Netero's own movements, whereas Kastro made a whole clone. What I like most about this is that through contracts and training you can overcome some limitations, but you can never get too "clever" with the system without some kind of sacrifice.

This is one aspect of the power system that I absolutely adore; each and every power is a self-expression. Some people are better at doing so than others. Some are better at some kinds of expressions than others (in this sense, every category of abilities is almost a little art form). I think what would have been interesting if we saw multiple people with the same or similar ability (as in all trying to learn the same ability) and then see how that works out

By the by, I have a soft spot for clone and copy-type powers, and I greatly considered adding Shaiapoufs Beelzebob, I also thought for a human it's completely impossible to make so it's not something I should want. Spiritual Message is another cool power that fits the character well, and even has some kind of multi-pronged usage (a lethal application vs nen muggles and a tactical application against nen users) even though I think I'd rather have a more direct power than this. After all, Pouf is strong because of his genetics, not his powers. Cool pick though, glad to see it.

On the earlier topic of "bad" powers, Tag is another interesting example of this even though it's bad for different reasons. The power was ill-suited to Cheetu's personality rather than his capacities, yet, because of his ant-nature, it's a powerful ability nonetheless (compared to Kastro who nerfed himself).

Hypnotic spell is an interesting choice to list :lmao I'm not sure what exactly is so interesting about it considering the very limited information we have on the technique. What's more is that the power apparently didn't cause a nen initiation in Killua? Curious. Illumi's power are as pure and basic as a manipulator can get. I don't dislike it - it's practical, simple, versatile (much like Bungee Gum really) and besides in single combat against anything not an ant, you have a OHKO move at the ready. It's just that to me it feels a little uninspired. That said, it's cool that to be strong you don't need an elaborate power but one suited to you.

Ghost Writer is cool, I think narratively skillful applications of foreshadowing (I'm not sure but I think Shalnarks prediction foreshadowed his later demise?).

Silent Majority, man that murder mystery is still ongoing. I suppose everyone and their mother have reached this conclusion over the years, but I think the caster is that pig-headed dude standing guard outside of the room. As a power for myself I don't think I'd like it. So many risks taken for an ability whose only goal is murder. Middling. As a plot device though, I love it. Togashi just doesn't miss

Harsh :lmao

His clone can't be used while in combat though, whereas Kastro's Double has all kinds of applications (and could probably be used, albeit as a disadvantage, against nen users of a lower caliber)
I don't think HK is conjured, I think he is using Transmutation and yes, his Manipulation works via prayers/hand motions which is different from straight manipulation.

I like Hanzo's clones because he can also use it to phase through matter and stay in his bed for this. It's kinda similar to astral projection. While with Kastro's it's just a body double with nothing different from the original. There are no conditions to strengthen it too.

It's mostly guesswork from the members. There is no official explanation of how it works. I think HK is transmuted, and he uses Emission + Manipulation for basic movement. For the 99 techniques, he has the hand motions which allow him to avoid Manipulation. The speed of the prayer + the power of the attacks are where Enhancement matter.

Need to clarify @Uriel's 3-pointer before we proceed. (He picked two abilities from a certain character - both of which are unshared picks)

Bill's ability allows him to accelerate someone/something's growth IIRC. From what we have seen it would be great for a gardener, but the possible applications on Humans are unclear.

The statue itself can't be a transmuted construct (this is depicted very differently, it's auralike similar to Dragon Head and Bungee Gum) - I think it is either emitted or conjured (leaning towards conjuration myself because zero hand is emission)

My thoughts about "emitted" constructs are different from before, but I don't see how it can't be a transmuted? Dragon Head is definitely "Aura like" but there are non corporeal constructs which are more detailed and can interact with physical stuff. The difference is that conjured creatures/items can't be repaired/fixed by deactivating and reactivating them. Razor and Goreinu's ability are perfect examples. If you believe these constructs can be emitted I also don't see why it can't just be that. Zero Hand still requires Enhancement since he uses his life force to boost the blast's powers. Conjuring something that big and heavy would be extremely unpractical.

I feel like the cost of conjuring something relatively simple is offset by the summoning condition and aura put into it 🤔 Transmuters tend to create things that mimic properties, conjurers and presumably emitters use their aura to create constructs. These visually look different is what I'm saying; the statue looks as real as say Kurapika's chains. Sure, they also look as solid as Razor and Goreinu's constructs (I forgot to list Goreinu alas). My point was that it at least isn't transmuted; transmuted stuff tends to not be detached from the Users body and doesn't create but mimics a substance.

So Im saying the "simple" statue is conjured (or perhaps emitted) with lots of aura in it, enhanced by enhancements and made to copy Netero's moves through manipulation. I maintain it's a simple application of conjuration and manipulation. Sure it is a big statue but it's just that, a statue. It doesn't have any special in-built effects like say a GSB might. As for manipulation, the statue isn't even semi-independent in the sense that it follows orders; it just has to copy Netero.

But it isn't common for Conjurers to conjure stuff detached from their body either. It appears in their arms and they do image training and stuff. There are no conditions to conjure your item in general, the conditions are for strengthening the ability(like Kurapika's and Shizuku's conditions). The item also become real and visible to non Nen Users. Meanwhile with Transmutation you can focus only on the shape. For a real statue, the weight and size would matter immensely. All "Stand-like" Hatsu have been non-corporeal beings so far(besides Cookie but Biscuit is a Transmuter so her case is very different).

Hmm but there's like Blinky, Gallery Fake, Crazy Slot, bunch of powers that are detached from the user

Is stand-like for instance like GSB?

Yes, this.

When it comes to the subject of Nen abilities and whether they fit their user's category, most fans are going about this the wrong way by rigidly using the "Kastro category incompatibility" case as an absolute rule. Going by this alone makes it difficult to accept that an Enhancer like Netero is conjuring his Kannon statue, or that an Emitter like Knov could be conjuring an entire building.

However, Togashi gave us three special mechanics that can explain cases like Netero, Knuckles and Knov: the "mastery level", "restriction and pledge" and "high risk=>high reward". Of course, the individual's own natural talent and/or genius also plays a big role.

Netero is someone who perfected martial arts by age 46, and I think it is safe to assume that includes Nen training (at least in Enhancement). So, let's say Netero was a Level 100 Enhancer. Thus he is capable of learning conjuration techniques up to level 60! This is a pretty high level that is probably more than enough to conjure a powerful giant statue with 99 arms. On top of that, Netero's condition for summoning his jutsu is so risky and insane that it makes the statue powerful enough to keep Meruem at bay, and even hurt him slightly. Also, Netero was a genius among geniuses in Nen.

On the other hand, we have Kastro, who was actually described as a promising and talented Nen user, obviously nowhere near Netero's level in terms of talent and level, but decent enough. Let's say he was a Level 30 enhancer. This means that in theory, he can only learn up to Level 18 conjuration and manipulation abilities. Yet, he managed to create a double which is described by Wing as a very complex technique, probably of a higher than what he could afford...in other words he bit off more than he could chew. Therefore, again quoting Wing, he ended up expending all of his talent just to learn the cloning skill. What's more, he seemingly does not use any restrictions or conditions to power up his ability!

In conclusion, it is possible for a user to develop abilities in categories far from their own, as long as they are mindful of their current level and have a strong pledge+restriction. Also, remember that Kastro is an example of someone who brute-forced his way to master abilities that were supposedly out of his reach, and ended up paying the price by burning out most of his talent and forgetting some of the basics.

You know, I never considered Blinky a Nen Beast. Anyway, they still conjure them from their hands. We haven't seen what happens when Korutopi conjures several items at one though. By Stand-like I meant Nen Beast like Cookie, the 14 Devils, etc. The GSB are Nen Beasts but their case is special since they are parasitics.

I have no issue with Knov's ability but I think people love the idea that "Netero is just that great" too much. Netero himself is rather overrated in general IMO. Even before these reveals and confirmation(real confirmation, not these shoddy data books) that he was an Enhancer, that's how it was.

We all agree that he is using Manipulation but the way I see it, there is no reason for him to use Conjuration when he can achieve the same result with Transmutation, which is also more convenient. There is nothing to gain from using Conjuration with this ability. While the proficiency levels are great, I don't see how they allow you to circumvent these rules. Some even get confused by them and think that people right in the middle can use 100% of two categories and are "hybrids". Why would Netero conjure a huge statue, which would make it visible to other people when he can achieve the same results with Transmutation. Considering its size and the arms, can you even really say that it counts as a Level 60 Conjuration? Other than Korutopi, no one conjured something that huge.

What changed the most to me is that I don't believe that Nen Beasts can be "emitted" anymore. Nen Beasts always involve Transmutation or Conjuration in some way. So, Emitters like Pokkle, Razor and Goreinu at least use a bit of Transmutation for their abilities.

Uriel needs to specify which nen ability by Kalluto. Can't nominate vote under "Origami"Kalluto Zoldyck@Uriel (3)
Pakunoda‘s ability is probably the most reliable of such mind readings, provided you can essentially subdue a person first. Very few downsides like how Gon and Killua didn‘t know who „the chain guy“ is, but this should rarely be the case.

I am convinced that Phinks‘ ability has no ceiling. If he keeps winding up he eventually can oneshot Meruem. Idk how many windups that would take though. With enough mastery he could maybe wind up his arm as fast as Netero does his praying motion, and be for sure the most destructive Enhancer. But as of now it needs too much time. It also wasn‘t stated how long it stays powered up after winding up, but probably not for very long or he‘d always pre-wind before going anywhere.

Not much to say on Sadaso‘s arm. Maybe decent restraining tool.

Kalluto‘s paper storm attack doesn‘t look too great, but I like the surveilance paper and it would’ve made my HMs if I did any.

Are you aware of the condition for Paku's ability that's been revealed recently?

Phinks's punch probably stays active as long as he hasn't punched someone/something.

No what is it?

Surely not or he‘d always prewind.
