What Shonen Jump needs to create a new BIG FOUR (Aside One Piece)?
Akane, Kagurabachi, sakamoto days,Blue Box

Why you think Nue will not axing (Astro aside)? Nue is not selling 30k (All vols are selling less between 28k-29k) and in bottom recent weeks, how you think Nue surviver will possible?
Standards has been lowered since the famous 4 (haikyuu,TPN,Kimetsu, yunna hotspring) has ended [mha & jjk were destined to be hitters so i dont count them]. Jump thought some new series couldve reach these numbers again the famous 4 did,, i mean its Weekly shonen jump right...

But years later the new series cant come even close to those numbers, the difference is so huge. Jump now accept if an populair series sell the same 20k volume after volume. As long the sales of the series doesn't plateau, or drop hard in popularity. They will keep it

Yuuna wasn't a particularly big series, it'd fit right in with the current roster (though probably in the upper half? I don't remember how much it typically sold exactly).

In retrospect it's fun to look back and see those series getting billed as 4 top hits all ending together, when in reality it was 3 top hits and then Yuuna which just happened to end at the same time.

Kenji Sakaki (Enigma) married Kyosuke Usuta (Jaguar) in September of 2010, right after Enigma started and the funny thing is that Jaguar finished its decade long serialization just 2 issues before Enigma started, so Jump was very close to have a married couple serializing 2 series at the same time, the only negative thing is that there were a few malicious people acting like Sakaki got pimped by Jump because of Usuta, which is dumb since she was already a assistant working with Amano on Reborn and clearly talented.
knew you'd deliver, thanks. knew about both series didn't know they're related. maybe we'll see this happen in the not so distant future

Yeah, didn't Yuuna go from like, 120k at the start to around 50k by the time it finally ended?
Putting it smack dab in the middle of the current mag which is still kinda crazy to think about 😭

True, we'll see how it goes but I don't expect good rankings with those levels of sales tbh
Lol HSF survived 3 years with sales of 3-4k... But had good rankings. If kiyoshi will do good ranking it will survive ofc

For the moment some fella has given me this paper

Frickin' beautiful.

The overpriced, 1/8th scale goodsmile figure of Samura using Tobimune in 3 years will unironically save me

Also is that 50,000,000 yen on the bounty? They were really lowballing for what is the equivalent of a nuke
Remember that KGB takes place around the 90s if we observe architecture, vehicles and tech (not the flipphones). 50,000,000 yen is 328,000 dollars which in 1990 would equate to 800,000 dollars which is... still pretty cheap for a nuke. Guess Kyora was being stingy.

Tbf, we also have to adjust for inflation, and we don't know how that is in the world of Kagurabachi. Maybe those $800,000 are worth a lot more than ours.

Or maybe Hokazono picked a random high number that ended up not being as high as he thought.

SO, Shonen Jump is in dangerous state right now because it only have One Piece, Kagurabachi, Sakamoto sell 100k and big hit of action manga in this time now?
Man, i wish Shonen Jump return to GOLDEN TIME when Shonen Jump have big hits of action like Naruto, Bleach, Toriko,... each years.

Yeah... It seems the magazine's gonna end soon with the way things are... The profits just aren't coming in... All the anime, the games, the merchandise, it's just not sustainable anymore... This is... the end...

Joking apart, the new law regarding freelancers might make a dent in their profits....

Yuuna peak in the month:

Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san #5 (131,935)

The final volume:

Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san #24 (45,829)

Which means at the lowest Yuna was selling virtually the same as Akane Banashi and at the peak better than Blue Box and Sakamoto

Akane Banashi #13 (46,102)
Sakamoto Days #18 (102,103)
Blue Box #16 (99,620)

In retrospect it's fun to look back and see those series getting billed as 4 top hits all ending together, when in reality it was 3 top hits and then Yuuna which just happened to end at the same time.
That sounds a bit condescending, neither Haikyu or Neverland sold near what Yaiba did, that doesn't make them less as a hit, it's not like Jump would pair Yuuna with these 3 if they didn't consider the series a hit too.

Please find a new gimmick. Your doom posting is tiring and it’s only been a day.

I would say sakamoto days and blue box are bigger than yuuna san ever was.

Sakamoto Days at Vol.9 had 2.2 million copies in circulation.
Blue Box at Vol.7 had 1.5 million copies in circulation.
Yuuna at Vol.8 had 1.5 million copies in circulation.

And akane banashi isn't that far behind yuuna
(1.5 million copies in circulation with 10 volumes)

You're comparing circulation numbers, these have a lot of stuff take in count including digital sales that has been way more prominent in new series circulation from the last few years, when you compare "vol to vol" monthly sales, the difference is quite drastic:

Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san #1 (66,600)
Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san #2 (107,200)
Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san #3 (127,202)
Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san #4 (127,430)
Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san #5 (131,935)
Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san #6 (119,753)
Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san #7 (123,092)
Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san #8 (113,153)
Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san #9 (112,240)
Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san #10 (106,746)

Sakamoto Days #1 (19.600)
Sakamoto Days #2 (30.592)
Sakamoto Days #3 (52.760)
Sakamoto Days #4 (51.080)
Sakamoto Days #5 (70.698)
Sakamoto Days #6 (78.175)
Sakamoto Days #7 (88.267)
Sakamoto Days #8 (95.705)
Sakamoto Days #9 (98.641)

Blue Box #1 (74.800)
Blue Box #2 (104.513)
Blue Box #3 (108.982)
Blue Box #4 (110.103)
Blue Box #5 (110.844)
Blue Box #6 (113.451)
Blue Box #7 (109.808)
Blue Box #8 (107.652)
Blue Box #9 (100.975)
Blue Box #10 (108.728)

Akane Banashi #1 (29.024)
Akane Banashi #2 (48.208)
Akane Banashi #3 (54.896)
Akane Banashi #4 (65.756)
Akane Banashi #5 (64.985)
Akane Banashi #6 (61.200+)
Akane Banashi #7 (56.885)
Akane Banashi #8 (58.190)
Akane Banashi #9 (59.058)
Akane Banashi #10 (52.900+)

Blue Box was the closest one to Yuuna sales from the start but it was still overall selling lower through the period of the circulation you posted, Sakamoto was quite behind with the first 10 volumes and with Akane is nowhere close to reach Yuuna sales.

Going off now, will come back later :bedtime

With modern Jump, it's worth considering that digital sales are probably significantly higher than they used to be.

They're not going to turn a 50k series into a 300k of course, but considering the discrepancy whenever we get circulation numbers it seems like they're roughly only slightly less than the physical sales for most series (so Akane-banashi is probably actually doing ~100k, Sakamoto Days ~200k, and so on).

Jump does need a proper new big hit of course, but I really don't think the situation is as dire as people like to make it out to be, especially considering how few of the ongoing series have anime (and two of the ones that do should end fairly soon).

Well, yeah but digital sales are part of how big a series is. It doesn't matter if more people bought physical copies of Yuuna, we have proof that more people are reading Sakamoto/Blue Box than it, so yeah, pure physical is fairly irrelevant.
