Astro is in a weird place of being "kid friendly" shonen and not "kid friendly" at the same time. Yikes. I really think he shouldn't have tried too hard to fit into wsj mold. It really shows that it end up becoming neither here nor there.

It is the art... the chibified art just really turn me off. Even compared to endgame Tokyo Revengers art you can tell that Wakui chibified his art more in Astro. So, the cutesy look x BDSM in the latest chapter just clash horribly. I wish he just keeps his TR root tbh...

Not that i hate on Wakui. As TR fans I am just not too keen on Astro now.

ah yeah the art too at the begining, but lately (especially for latest 2 or 3 chapters) it's more like early TR now

There is nothing kid friendly with the pointless BDSM in the past couple of chapters lol

Also not surprised but still disappointed they didn’t translate the Kochikame x Chojo chapter. Especially since the actual Chojo chapter did nothing but reference the special chapter.

You know talking about Astro and its clashing and somewhat change in tone reminds me of what happened to the Super Sentai series Ohranger where it was supposed to be dark and serious but made it lighter part way due to the tragedy in Japan at the time with the nerve agent attack on a train and earthquake in Kobe. It didn’t help at all and it led to poor ratings for that series at the time. Don’t get me wrong, tonal switches can happen, but if it isn’t in line within the context of the story and it led to misjudging what the audience wants, then it can lead to serious mistakes.

How is Shinobi selling?
The volumes were only released today, we will have to wait until tomorrow to have certain data.

If TR didn't had a joke of an ending and was actually decent than I would've gave astro more hope. But TR really has one of the Worst ending in manga history, I can't take the author serious anymore. I'm just chillin now how this tournament arc will wreck

Shonen Jump new banner from the last group cover

--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

The Shonen Jump 2025 Calendar

Interesting how only One Piece & Sakamoto Days have a solo month while all the other series share each month in duos and December is again One Piece & Sakamoto, they really be pushing Sakamoto as the new flagship.

Mission: Yozakura Family "Magical☆Pyon Destroy" was voted 2nd place in the "Top 80 Best Character Song" ranking by Spacomic website:

Shinobi will probably sell more than Himaten and Kiyoshi imo, it would be nice to have at least two series that sell decently on this batch (Ichi is gonna killing it)

Also about Astro well, I agree that the author seemingly don’t know what it want to be, or want to be everything at the same time, a bit like One piece

I wouldn't see a calendar being indicative of much, but it's funny regardless considering how sakamoto is now only the fifth best seller of the consistent roster. op, bb, kgb, ruri, etc... speaking of, I wish they included ruri in this kind of stuff. I get the group covers since it's not exactly part of the physical mag and they probably wanna prioritise Shindo's health with them only recently having come back but a bit of extra merch here and there for the dragon girl wouldn't hurt... I saw a lot of posts online around the time of volume two releasing that people weren't even aware that it had come back from hiatus, lol.

Kind of crazy the sakamoto anime is only a week from dropping, though. I wonder if it'll do anything for sales. Quality we've seen so far has me (and judging by a lot of the comments online, most of the current fanbase) kind of cautious, but I guess that's not the be all end all. It only has to hit its stride with the right kinda people. I just hope they don't fuck up the train fight.

Banger. Dropped the Yozakura adaptation quickly since it looked like it restructured a lot of stuff and I didn't wanna risk missing out on / being spoiled on events from in the manga, but I really need to check it out again soon. From what I remember it was pretty solid. 2nd OP is also fantastic.
Seems like Ichi and Shinobi are gonna be hits.
I think it's a bit early to call, particularly for Shinobi, but I am at least seeing a few posts about people buying the volume so I have hope. Live, dammit.

I have had the sensation for years Jump has specially strongly pushed Sakamoto since the days of Mashle anime. I feel Sakamoto is the series they have pushed the most since Toriko, but it also makes total sense for Jump to do that in the situation they are (desesperatly searching for a new action hit, Sakamoto is the only one properly selling while Mashle is decreasing and the other action titles aren't able to sell more than 40k; MHA and JJK ending also helped Sakamoto's current position, and unlike Kagurabachi and probably Ichi, they have been investing on Sakamoto for a good period already).

If anime does nothing and Kagurabachi continues rising, I can see a "it's over Sakamoto, we move to Kagurabachi" like the "it's over Mashle, we move to Sakamoto" they did, but if that happens it will be more in 2026. In 2025 they are so sticking to Sakamoto. The actual thing that surprises me in a way is how it's getting spinoffs and novels already before anime even started, something that I don't recall for any other series right now (MHA and Kimetsu got their spinoffs and novels after anime if I'm correct). They also didn't invest so far when Mashle was selling +100k (but I guess the key difference was also that JJK was going strongly during Mashle era while we all knew JJK and MHA were on the verge of ending during Sakamoto rise).

In that way, I am 100% confident on Spring GIGA cover being Sakamoto.

Sakamoto being the only series alongside OP to get a solo month in the calendar and a extra page on December month with OP isn't a coincidence, these things are done with the "hierarchy" of the magazine in mind since they will obviously give a bigger spotlight for the flagship series, and as said above, Jump has been pushing Sakamoto as a future flagship for a while already so now with the anime they will double down on that.

They've gotta have a lot of confidence, then, that the anime is going to do decently well. I hope it's not for nothing. Still, I didn't even notice the thing with december. Curious why they didn't just give an extra page to Blue Box and then one for — I don't know, HxH or Ruri, since both were in the magazine this year. I agree with what you said about the hierarchy stuff but it's just weird with Blue Box being pretty safely in the same tier as Sakamoto in the double issues for a while now to see them pretty distinctly separated like that (lol)

Kind of like sunken cost, then, only without the loss? Probably a bad way of wording things on my part but I think I get what you mean. It's not that Sakamoto is even a bad thing to bet on either, since like you said they've been running with it for a while now and it's got a decently sized fujo fanbase already who shill for all the merch — not to mention the anime releasing in a week. If it turns into a roaring success they wont even need to change strategies, only expand on what's already there.

Interesting screencap I found from a BTS video of the cover being put together. Pretty safely confirms the relative tier of every series except Roboco because she transcends that somehow, but I'm more surprised by the fact even the poses are decided on by editorial beforehand since I've thought for the longest time the mangaka were just told a theme and to run with it — I guess this makes a lot more sense though. Saves wasted time. I wonder if it's the same for just regular covers, and mangaka have little control over things like composition and such and are just told to follow along the lines of what someone else has already drawn up and then are given notes to tweak it as needed. That's kinda lame. Only real difference I can pick out of the one above and the final product is that Suzuki went with the skinny version of Sakamoto.

damn, Jump Fatshaming :[ (jump changed their mind for choosing which one or another reason). fat sakamoto aint marktable no mo.

its deff interesting, but it indeed makes more sense since certain poses can look off or hinder certain positions against other characters in a groups cover.

makes more canon that itadori & yonagi were really meant to be together as twins in groups covers [GRIEF] :emobirb

Pretty sure even solo Jump cover designs and poses are all specifically demanded by the editorial department. It was in that making of Jump short manga.
