I dunno why he gets so much hate. He's a villainous asshole, the top tiers of the marines definitely needed one who is explicitly a fascist bootlicker, for accuracy. He is the still-beating heart of ACAB, and it doesn't make sense if the current incarnation of the Marines *doesn't* have a character like him.

I think a lot of it has to do with the anime's portrayal of him backing out of Wano and the insane glazing up of what Shanks's haki actually did.

Haha you know what he definitely does have a sword and for some reason no sheath on it. In the black & white manga intro for him it definitely looks like a black blade like shusei. From how he was shown he seemed like he relied more heavily on DF powers than swordsmanship but maybe I've been sleeping on him and he'll give Mihawk a good sword fight

If it's really a black sword, I wouldn't doubt it if he just uses his DF in general until he's pushed to use his sword or feels particularly compelled to sword fight. It's scary imagining what he could do with a black sword utilizing his DF powers. Coat it in all kinds of toxins, thorns for shredding the enemy or biting the enemy's sword like King's sword could, make branches grow out of it to seamlessly turn a slash or pierce into a restraining maneuver, etc.

Here goes another shot: prisoners / slaves being freed and the liberater is not Dragon / the Revos but Cross Guild instead. (Aligns well with my previous guess)

Yeah seems to be a safe bet, but at this point it‘s even possible that Oda changes the scene to a global event / other Yonkou crews in order to further delay the Loki unleashed plot. I‘m hoping for the next hint to shed a bit more light on the matter.

You mentioned the race for One Piece and Blackbeard in the same sentence Whatever Teach is doing now, it hasn't (or at least from my own perspective) any impact on the race (finding Laugh Tale).
Currently, He seems to be keen to interfere with the Revolutionaries' business (Saving the Celestial Dragons?!), so how can this helps him in the race?!
