Just saw the reboot news.

Please be Toriko. Please 😭
The "reboot" announcement was posted by the twitter account for World Trigger's anime, it also came with billboards in some train stations which feature quotes from different seasons of world trigger.... needless to say it's definitely not going to be a Toriko reboot and instead it'll be something relating to World Trigger's anime, probably season 4 of the anime.

What I'm wondering is:

Did it have to be connected to Jujutsu Kaisen?
Don't ask me. I never read JJK. I'm just treating it as a standalone story.

And I can follow it well enough, so I'd say it wasn't really needed? Unless they are planning on bringing the old guy back, of course.

I personally suspect that none of the JJK characters are going to play a major role in the story; they’re there mainly to serve as cameos, which is what we’ve seen thus far. The big thing that points me to that is how we never see their eyes; even with Nobara being in full panel, it was far enough away that her face wasn’t fully featured, and all the other instances have had some obscuring (Yuji w/ the hood, Yuta/Maki being too tall for the panel to show eyes, Mahito’s eyes fading in the shadows).

At most maybe we see Yuji at the very end for a cameo with his whole face, but I don’t expect any old characters to do anything big-time.

Issue 1 2026 chapter reviews (welcome back my dearest. Great issue all around even beyond Nue! Though, you can see me struggling to come up with things to say with a lot of these lol):

1. Nue's Exorcist: Holy shit this chapter. There's so much detail in each panel that I'm not even gonna bother trying to list them all. So first off, incredible color page and we start with a recap by Shiroha doing... ASMR?! And you can not only see the various gaming consoles in the background, but you can also see the people in chat asking what a Hyo even is. Back to the festival, Gashadokuro completely stole the show until the end, and what a gentleman he is! He's also fucking HUGE and TERRIFYING and wants none of Soranaki's horny nonsense which made every single one of his interactions here absolute gems, from those dudes getting frozen still and crying, to Shitotsu's friends now in cosplays shivering. Speaking of, DAMN, TOME (if you read you know). And the ultimate showdown: Soranaki and Gashadokuro vs Nue and... Nagase?? SAVE MY MAN HE'S HAVING AN EXISTENTIAL CRISIS! Also Natsuki as an anchor? Team NH is DOOMED. That ending was just... spectacular. Soranaki gives us a crotch shot with the goddamn finger heart signs as he flies past everyone in his current element finally revealed: electricity. Thay final sequence and spread just highlight the core of the sports festival and why it's so good: the sheer ENERGY. From the wildest NPCs giving life to Kagariya City, to all the monsters hanging out with normal humans, to the back to back jokes, to the over the top takes on simple games, to that flamboyant pose Soranaki strikes while bathing in lightning. Simply MARVELOUS.

2. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo: Usami and Jabaloma were the only two making sense and one of them is now at death's door after saving his horrid subordinates. Like, them killing curses at night is such a stupid move in that situation but I can totally see that happening in real life too. And now it is truly the Strongest in history vs Strongest Available, but I fully expect Rika to show up from the ring, or Yuji showing up at the end.

3. Kagurabachi: Really good action with a smart plan to win without further casualties, not much to say but very good stuff.

4. Someone Hertz: I like how characterized the Long Hopes are becoming. Reminds us that these two are VERY niche "celebrities" and just as human as all the people sending in jokes. Besides that, as always, really cute stuff between the pen exchange, the Mimei blunder and especially his message to the Long Hopes, shows how good of a guy he is. I do wonder when the, in my opinion, inevitable more serious arc of thes series will begin though...

5. Ichi The Witch: Much needed Desscaras focused chapter with more to come given the ending to it. Glad to see Hitsugi's more than a cookie cutter antagonist at the end there: he's one true bastard instead!

6. JK Yuusha: Nice to have another recurring character now, cutest chapter in the series so far. Not a lot to say admittedly, but hey.

7. The Mage Next Door: MUCH better chapter than last week's disaster of a character introduction. Osoegawa used his magic in a cute way and the little story behind the cafe was charming honestly. And is it just me, or was the dialogue a little better this time around? I swear it actually felt like 2-3 real human beings were talking! If less action means better writing then by all means, keep at it.

8. Shinobi Undercover: Crazy how Kasagi is getting outshined by her own, much better minded, teammate this chapter. An okay subversion of the "testing the squad" trope where the tester is somewhat grounded in beliefs.

-GAP-

9. Gonron Egg: Admittedly I think this is the best chapter in the series since the first. Is it good? No, but it's something. The last part most of all, that is an actually interesting plotpoint. All the other flaws persist though, art especially. God bless those background artists trying their best but look at that spread and how those people are drawn...

One funny thing about Gonron: finally the desired black haired dude from the color appeared last chapter. The story didn't continue this week

The problem is, it's not like that.

That's what I'm wondering: wouldn't it have been better to do a standalone story about the relationship between humans and aliens?

What the hell is the point of throwing a Jujutsu story in there?

but I fully expect Rika to show up from the ring, or Yuji showing up at the end.
But why?

In short, further proof that Modulo was written solely to get people talking on social media.

What a devil of a Gege!

Busy holiday period so no thoughts except a brief "it was an ok first issue of the year"

Kagurabachi incredible as always but Modulo really hit its highest peak for me so far this week. Looking forward to seeing where Gege takes this, his shorter interpersonal arcs have always been the strongest (Hidden Inventory is incredible compared to everything else and Modulo feeling like it's taking cues from it)

Issue 1 votes:

1) Modulo
2) Kagurabachi
3) Akane
4) One PIece
5) Witch Watch

I wonder why...I just can't explain it.

Oh yeah, that thing.

Honestly, I'm not even sure Gege actually created the story. It seems like a completely independent manga with a JK twist. I think they asked the author to use the right name to try to appeal to the audience.

Ichi the Witch (6 Volumes) has 1.250.000 million copies in circulation

Another circulation update. I don't collect Ichi volumes, but that cover looks like it'd be gorgeous in person.

This week was a tough one a lot of good chapters even from series that I'm not really a big fan of.
The latest Batch:
Gonron Egg
- This week's chapter was good but felt like things were happening way too quickly. Maybe the author knows the axe is imminent and is rushing towards a conclusion? The story isn't horrible, but it could be so much better if the author slowed down and fleshed out the world more. It kind of gives me a Promised Neverland vibe and if the world was better developed and the story paced a little bit slower, I feel like more people would vibe with it.
The Hero Girl and The Demon Lord - I feel like there are a lot of misses with this series so far. I also get a Someone Hertz vibe from this series with a bunch of jokes that just aren't hitting from week to week, as well as the characters relationship. I do not feel anything for these characters. This week's chapter was probably the best so far, introducing the Subspace as a character was kind of fun, but it still feels like something was missing. More information on the whole war would probably go a long way to making me care about these characters new lives even a little bit.
The Mage Next Door - This week's chapter was really fun. I like that finding another "Evil" mage was not the focus of this chapter. I hope this series is willing to give us more chapters like this. The business they have established lends itself to being sent on wild goose chases and solving regular people problems. Definitely the best of this batch (by a long margin) if you ask me.
WSJ Powerhouses:
Someone Hertz
- The jokes still aren't hitting for me and as wholesome as the relationship between the MC's is, it really is not doing anything for me. I do not find myself rooting for Mimei to defeat Eel potato. I will probably keep reading but I am almost 100% certain that this series is not for me. This week's chapter has a (1) panel that made me feel some emotion (in a good way) towards this series. It was just one panel though and the pages before and after felt like they failed to build up to and keep that feeling for me.
Kagurabachi - If they defeat the Hishaku here then I am not sure where else this series could go. I know people want it to be a long running pillar of the magazine but it's starting to feel like the author has the end clearly in sight. I am not sure where the story could go next if they defeat the Hishaku here. This was honestly one of my favorite chapters of this series. That is saying a lot given how critical of the series I have been to this point.
Shinobi Undercover - Another series that just really isn't for me. I do not really like any of the characters (especially the fugitive ninjas), their interacts, and relationships. The art is spectacular but that's all this series really has going for it. Story wise it's just like Kindergarden Wars (which has better characters and overall plot). I also saw a video that called it a Kill Blue clone, maybe someone could confirm or deny this as I never read Kill Blue?

Just saw the reboot news.

Please be Toriko. Please 😭
The original adaptation has to be one of the worst I have seen, I would certainly love a better, more faithful, anime adaptation of Toriko.
World Trigger (1st season) was about as bad as Toriko's anime adaptation. I hope the give it a full reboot with a better quality of animation as the story itself is quite good.

A little thing I was thinking about that I think I'll append to my 2026 predictions, but felt like posting it as a little chart here:

Feel free to correct me if I misinput something here (gosh I wish there was a way to resize the columns so they weren't spaced like this...)

I think this is fun to analyze to see how certain years stand out from the others, like 2020's unusual number of series and how it seemed to actually work for getting lasting series, or how much of an anomaly 2016's swath of hits was (there's additional data that could be analyzed to show how some of these happened, like how most years have 5 or 5.5 batches, but 2020 had 6, 2 of which were 4-series batches, contributing to the)

So what does this mean for predictions? Well, I at least want to use this data to make somewhat educated guesses, the first 2 of which I'll go back and add to my predictions thread:
-I predict there'll be 11 series this year. The last 2 years being above average makes me think we're due to dip below a bit, especially since I don't believe there'll be a batch of 4 this year, and our latest batch was a little close to the end of the year.
-I predict that we'll have only 2 of the 2025 series reach a year. I say this both due to 2024 having an unusually high ratio as well as knowing the state of how the 2025 series are sitting. If I had to guess which ones it is, I'd say Someone Hertz is the first survivor, and then either Harukaze miraculously survives or it's up to Osoegawa and Hero Girl & Demon Lord to duke it out and see which one sticks around.
-We'll have at least 1 series that make it 3+ years for both 2025 and 2026. This is a longer term and less bold of a guess since it has been the case for every year since 2010, so unless Someone Hertz or the other survivors wrap up pretty quick (which, I guess could happen given the strength of 2025 overall) this should be free.

Hopefully someone else gets value out of this silly chart, I wasted a bit much of my evening staring at the Wikipedia page to compile this together and draw my conclusions from it.
