All Purpose Sig Contest Discussion Thread 2011

I really didn't have much for an idea this time either. I basically thought of the same things as you guys, Monkey D. Dragon was the first thing that came to mind or someone else in his revolutionary army. Then my second idea was something from Dragon Age II since I've been playing that all week. Pretty much I have nothing, I couldn't really envision anything as a sig that would work. I'm also crazy busy for the rest of the week with a conference at school, so I'm afraid I'll probably miss this theme.

Btw Shin, your DA 2 sig looks pretty darn cool and I like the Season of the Witch sig too.

@ Coffee - I also really like your current sig, it may be hard to beat. But I don't know if the text is quite right. The color seems a little off to me.

@Kakashi - I like your Prince of Persia sig. It really pops with all those bright colors. Your last few sigs have all been really great.

There are some mistakes and what not... but it looks good enough right now lol. I still can't do texts though. It's really the hardest thing to learn for sigs.

I agree that text is the hardest. I'm never confident in my text choices. I'd say try to make your text on the Prince of Persia sig a bit simpler/plainer. Sometimes the plain text looks best, look at Shins' sig as examples, IMO he always has awesome looking text.

Ok, so I totally screwed myself over with my school work, but I quickly made a revolution sig. I just used the first actual render that appeared when I searched "Revolution render" on google images. Added a stock background and some text.

Is it worth entering in the contest? What do you guys think?

I agree, I felt bad not doing anything. Nice Yahiko sig Shin, I thought of doing a Pain one, but Yahiko is far cooler.

I think they’re both brilliant!

I love of all the different shades of blue in the first sig. You might wanna change the colour/size of that “Tech Revolution” text. It’s not really clear and visible. Too dark imo. Loving the use of the render though~ Great job!

As much as I like the first sig; the second one takes the crown for me. Superb work! I really like how you’ve used the green and red colours with that “blood” like effect across her clothes and arms. The text completes the overall piece perfectly! Awesome work, Coffee~

Umm, that sounds okay. I honestly prefer contests where everyone has to focus on the same concept rather than the same subject as it allows for more creativity and seems less forceful as I think people tend to prefer choosing their subject over their concept when it comes to art, but perhaps that is just my perception.

What do all of you think? Do you prefer contests where everyone uses the same subject (e.g., same render, same character, same background, etc) or where everyone uses the same concept (basically how the regular contests are where you are only bounded by a concept)?

In any event, there would not be another same subject contest for a while, but if these same subject contests are that popular, they can occur more often.

Just wanted to check with everyone: I only got a handful of response on doing another collaboration contest. So, for those who didn't respond, could you please give your thoughts?

If you don't want to do a collaboration contest and don't feel comfortable posting it in the thread, you can send me your thoughts on the matter via PM.

For those who don't understand what I mean by "collaboration contest," it would be a contest where you have to work with a partner on a signature to submit. You would not be allowed to submit a solo entry for this contest.

Well personally, I think you are doing a wonderful job with the contests and I wasn't trying to imply that we should change it. I just thought that It might be cool to have a change of pace once in a while (like with the collab or same render) themes that you throw in once in a while~

@Farfala- I really like your current sig too, it's quite different, and the colors on the render are just great.

@ Coffee - About your revolution sigs, I like both, but I agree with Kakashi, I think the text on both could be tweaked a bit. I know this may cause a more difficult decision, so I apologize, but I honestly like the first sig better. There are a lot of great effects and features in the second one, but for some reason I like the first one better as a whole. Mabye it's the colors, I think all blue is perhaps more asthetically pleasing than red and green, even when the two colors are nicely blended? Also, what about the revoultion sig you had as your sig earlier this week? That one was super nice too.

@Tsukisama - I'm up for whatever contests you can come up with, there may be a few topics here and there that I find too difficult, but I usually like the challenge of coming up with ideas for the theme. I'm all for Coffee's same character idea, which I think is really good, because you can still chose any render you want as well as the concept. This would give the sig maker many options as long as you chose a popular character with lots of renders availible. I'm also all for the collaboration contest too, as long as I get a partner I'm in.
