It's not a very informative thread yet <.<
But it can totally get there !

There are a lot of tocix things in the feminist community, but all in all, i do think third wave feminism is important.
Exspecially because the toxic things in it are things you find in other movements too.
So if we learn how to get arround those in feminism, we have a good blueprint to circumvent them in other issues.
Definitely agree on the tocicity. People seem to think stuff like that is more common than it actually is with some movements (well people and things in general, really..) because of media coverage, but the media just covers what turns the best profit, not (just) what sends a good/accurate message.
Each job would be part time since I dont think there are full time non management positions at fast food joints or grocery stores etc, and theyd have to be part time in order to fit it into their school schedule (+ if they were full time the job would have to give them benefits they dont deserve). So reducing it to 20 hours per job, theyd have at least 40 hours of leisure time, so they could pick up extra work hours.
(I'm going to pretend like there's no complexities to that JUST for a moment...) How would that play out money-wise (how much you're making, costs and such)?

Goddamn, Sharkbait, you are either delusional or a fucking monster.

Poverty is systemic. Only a lucky few can "pull" themselves out of it. I see it everyday. The hardest working people I know are trapped in low-wage jobs. The smartest people I know are trapped in low-wage jobs. Say it's because of their decisions all you want, but rich people make the same shitty decisions and don't have to pay the same price for their mistakes.

I almost regret jumping in this convo tbh. My whole life I've had to listen to rich (or lucky) fuckers tell the rest of us in the trailer park or projects how we didn't work hard enough, aren't smart enough, or didn't pick the right career path. It's elitist classism at its purest. I hope, for your own sake, that bubble don't pop; you won't like how the rest of us have to live.

I never said or implied or even am a proponent of the belief that people are permently stuck in their position. In fact, I think Ive made it clear that people just have to get a good education and make good decisions then they too can partake in the joys of a new American century. People are just lazy in these low brain power jobs and never want to get out, stuck working as a cashier at a fast food joint for years and years and years doing little to go to a 4 year accredited institution to do more with their life. Just last night I stated that people need to get degrees.
Stop saying "low brain power," it's a dumb phrase used by egotistical, selfish people who want to feel better about themselves. All you're doing is showing just how bad of a person you are and how ignorant you are. You lack so much knowledge about real life that it'd be amusing if it wasn't infuriating and more common.

But they are lazy, how else would explain being unable to get out of a bad job. Getting a job is not something someone thrusts at someone, someone has to go out and apply and do the whole job application process.
No, most aren't lazy. Why don't you actually talk to these people instead of your other well-off friends and family? You'll learn just how stupid your views are and how wrong you are about so many things.

Do you know how many people, from baristas to fast food workers, look and apply for good jobs? It's not their fault if the companies won't hire them. There are so many explanations as to why they can't find a better job, but someone like you who lives in a fantasy, bs world wouldn't know any explanation but "lazy!!"

But then again, you solidified the kind of person you are when you praised the banking industry for cheating and robbing people and committing frauds while crying when laborers like fast food cashiers or waiters made simple mistakes. People and politicians like you will forever be the reasons why this country will never advance and continue to do poorly when it shouldn't be.
......
So, you're saying all they need to do is maybe only work one minimum wage (or not much higher than that) job, take out some loans for 4 years in college, and hire + spend time with a tutor when before they were just barely scraping by when they worked 2 jobs?

wat
Shark most likely was born into a well-off family who paid for everything he did, wanted, and messed up on and only had friends who were well-off as well. Or he's pretending to be elite to feel better. He's been lucky to not been born in a family lower than upper middle class, most likely.

No, i am a defender of third wave feminism. I even opened a feminism thread <:
Odd as you're okay with releasing rapists very early or not wanting them to face punishment.

Abortion is a good way to stop kids, though, so there's no reason for Shark to be against it. Condoms aren't 100% effective, only one thing is.
.
I agree abortion is a good way to stop kids. But is it ethical to stop someone from having kids because of poverty?

Wow, the US media is the worst. They are pushing sex scandals, both the left and right. Trump said this, Bill Clinton did this, the level of political debate is nowhere near where it should be so the middle class person feels anyhow represented in both parties's ideologies.

The whole thing with the Trump tape was a big diversion from discussing the real issues like the Clinton emails that continue to pop out of wikileaks and Guccifer 2.0. Donald Trump and his tax returns was soon forgotten as it did not work much as a good old sex scandal, geez gimme a break, this is such a Wag the Dog election.

People should not make excuses for Trump, he has said and acted in a "not so presidential manner" I give you that, but wtf is wrong with people ignoring the DNC collusion with Hillary, the Media collusion, suddenly Trump did not call for a total immigration ban and suddenly he is a devil because of leaked tapes. God damn it America, you fell for the oldest trick in the book.

Hillary and her dirty partisan politics left out the guy that addressed the real issues of poverty, education, anti-war, anti-TPP. This is why Hillary in an odd form of justice should lose to Trump, because she helped propel him even higher, with Bernie the race would be over by now.

Yes Obama is pushing the TPP now, but let's turn focus off that with rape victims poping out left and right, disgusting.

Yeah, I kind of agree with your sentiment, honestly. Sort of shocking to me that the GOP is so out of touch and inept, that they couldn't even put forth someone competent enough to run against her.

I dont see it being complicated. Word a day job in morning (20 hrs a week), a night job (20 hrs) a week, school during the afternoon, and then have a weekend job for 20 hrs. If they can rely on public transportation (save money from having to pay a car fee, and also live with roommates buddy up with friends and rent a house, then even more savings can be gathered. It shouldnt be that hard to survive and thrive.

How does one stay trapped, all they have to do is just get an education and then they can make it to getting jobs with higher pay. No one is trapped in a low wage job. One only stays trapped if they are lazy and put in no effort to do better. Its not classism or elitism, its about reaping what one sows. I also dont think its any classes goal of keeping anyone in these housing establishments, why else are these housing establishments being removed from cities or being replaced with retail districts and more enriched housing establishments. People are becoming better participants in the world economy successfully matriculating from these low wage low brain power jobs to respectable salaried jobs with benefits. Many high earning people in America have started off from such humble beginnings, perhaps its non American countries that are having situations in which people are trapped.

I would still argue the issue here is not necessarily the media but rather people. The media is pushing the sex scandals thing because that's what people want to hear. People at the US care way too much about sex scandals. And they care way too much about whether they think they could have a beer with whoever is president. If people at the US cared and understood policy or cared to try to understand it then the political debate there would be completely different. If people really cared about policy then this wouldn't even be a trump vs clinton debate...

I am still unsure about the leaked emails to be honest. I mean, look at the sanders bit. There are several leaked emails that do show the DNC sided with hillary. And they are assholes for it. But what exactly did they do to make sanders loose? The DNC should change and democrats should damn well demand it (specifically they should demand a greater deal of transparency and integrity because they shouldn't be putting their policy at risk of email hacks). Or go through whatever reform is necessary to ensure they remain neutral in future elections. But I don't see what thing specifically they did that would constitute electoral fraud or something of that fashion. I am not sure the media has let trump off easy regarding the total immigration ban (maybe it depends on the media outlet though). As far as I have followed the elections he is called out on that constantly and it is basically one of his most well known policy proposals (as well as extreme vetting). As for the tax returns.... Trump is constantly called out on that as well. I don't see where the media has failed in regards to this. People have been asking about this for months and trump gives the exact same response as before (even though it has been proven to be bafflingly stupid). And his supporters don't give a crap about it (or worst, believe him). When the billion dollar loss from 1995 was leaked the media went crazy for it.

We talked about single parents who have to support their children, and you suddenly talk about roommate buddies? 0.o

Yes in early 20th century America different families shared the same apartment, one family per room in a 2 or 3 bedroom is certainly possible.

We are not in that century anymore. Good luck finding a roommate who accepts your kids running arround. You'd also have bad influences for your kids with the few rather shady people you'd find.

I'm pro-choice. If she wants to get an abortion, she can and should. If she doesn't want to, she shouldn't have to. People who are against Planned Parenthood just end up making everything worse and hurting people with their ignorance.

WEll, they did try when they tried to screw Trump, but his popularity kept him in the running. It's scary, really, but then again Trump also had the media.

One thing i wanna say:

We have Hillary now being president after Bill was.
Can we please have Michelle Obama after Hillary? I'd vote Michelle Obama. She is great.

No political background or foreign relations experience doesnt make someone great. Shes unqualified, unlike Hillary Clinton who has served as Secretary of State.

She'd probably be better at this than the people who have a politicial backround, but a bad one, like mike pence.

Well, we are already getting at least four more years of obama (a more aggressive obama but obama still) with hillary. At some point the political dynasties have to end. I think hillary could go as far as doing a good job but that doesn't mean I am comfortable with this...

My unwavering love.

More aggressive obama.... =....Mao? Knew hillary was a commie.

I think it clinton's case it is totally legit. Clinton worked herself up as a politician and was politically active all her life, even before meeting bill. Clinton would have had a career even without him.
That's no GW Bush thing. And as we saw with jeb, it does not work out every time, too.
