So, musk bought twitter. Most of what he has done so far with it internally seems like a publicity stunt for his stans tbh. As in rather publicly firing a bunch of people. I mean, he has been there a few days and he is firing people who have been at it for quite some time? As an investor I'd be concerned. Then again, the stuff which musk wants to do which actually seem like good ideas (like getting rid of bots) seem straight up bad for business.

Big Tech's influence on our lives is inherently damaging and negative, but somehow the richest man on Earth taking it over is automatically good? Why? Because he has the same shit personality and takes that many engineers have? The whole situation is just so funny to me really.

Also I saw someone bring up a good point. Becoming the CEO of Twitter means he's the CEO of how many companies? 4 or 5 now? Maybe more?

So either CEO is a meaningless title or he's actually quite terrible at his job.

Oh, the whole thing is absolutely inane. In general I would argue that the business model of a social media company is inherently incompatible with a public forum. Data mining, selling data, linking users to other users based on whichever algorithm... You basically aim to maximize interactions and clicks for money. The business model is basically to pour gasoline on fire. Social media companies pretend to be public forums without actually behaving like such, they tippy toe around the line at their own convenience. Because being a public forum would not actually be profitable.

The whole "public forum" argument is only brought up when someone is being a hateful piece of shit or just blatantly lying for profit. None of these free speech warriors actually give a shit, otherwise they'd be for government control... which many are, except ONLY when it comes to a website like Twitter and nowhere else really.

You know... the reason shit like Parler and all the other rightoid twitterlikes keep failing is because no one wants to be on there because it's only full of all the people that were banned from twitter. If all the people that actually WANT to be on twitter left and made a second twitter it wouldn't suffer the same fate as these other companies because it'll have the install base.

Social media companies do not pretend to be public forums, though. They have rules, that bigots often skirt by until they go too far, and like any business or company or whatnot, if one doesn't follow those rules they get punished. I don't get why anyone would think there's freedom of speech on Twitter, Facebook, and etc, but it's not like anyone reads the ToS or uses common sense (report feature?).

Again, the irony is that these people never speak up when groups like Palestinians get banned despite not being violent or hateful at all. Or when minorities fight back against bigoted bullies.

I saw, but I could even when I went to his tweet to look at AOC's tweet that he replied to. Maybe he did that for a while just to annoy her, but removed the shadowban.

In any case, he fucked around and found out, and now he's trying to make Twitter "profitable."

Btw the soup guys now glued themselves to the streets.

Elsewhere, a bycicling woman got hit by a concrete mixer.

The ambulance coming to her rescue got late, due to the traffic jam created by the activists gluing themselves to the streets.

Today, the woman was declared as brain dead.

Elon's definitely lying, but what's sad is his fanboys believing that.

I will talk about it again, even tho it is not exactly "american politics". But it is a global phenomenon right now happening all over the world and at least JSO receives relevant funding from the US, too.

About the story: Not a lot of it was true.

-LG did not glue themselves to the streets, they climbed on top of a signbridge while police handled the traffic down below. Thus it was always possible for rescue cars to get through. In fact, traffic could pass on one of the three possible lanes at all times.

-LG announced the protest beforehand, so police and emergency cars could easily switch to other routes. The emergency car reached the woman on time and administered aid. It was another vehicle that was called to get the crashed truck off of her that was delayed, because that car is too big to easily pass through traffic and smaller roads, it was stuck for some minutes. But the emergency doctor on the crashsite declared that the vehicle would not have been needed at all and it would not have made any difference.

Basically, LG ensured in their strike that emergency cars would not be delayed (and factually were not). In the freak accident that happened right at the time of the protest, the unlikely scenario occured of a special vehicle to clear debris being called (even tho it was not needed). That is something so unlikely that it is hard to claim the activists needed to take it into account.
Every time a big event like a soccer game or a concert happens, the possibility of delayed emergency vehicle of all kind is much higher and nobody would claim these events are responsible for it. In fact, even a normal bigger protest is going to delay emergency vehicle just like this one, because roads have to be closed off.

Another side of this is that it actually seems to help LG by now. It is just like with the soup. At first lots of people are mad about "destruction of art", then they notice that the claim was a lie and no art was harmed. It is the same this time. The story "LG killed a woman" cannot be upheld and a lot of journalists and politicians have to backpaddle right now, while other people who are not exactly LG fans defend the activists against the lies being told.

This is what I meant before by saying LG tries to create "litmus tests". They are in the centre of hatred of conservatives and rightwingers right now, after this action. Thus leftwing people, even those who blasted them before (Tilo Jung is one example) defend them or at least attack their attackers.
Lots of relevant journalists and even some politicians defend them now to some extent. Their base is pretty furious too, because there were provably false accusations thrown around against them. On a kickstarter that the group started some time ago, there was a bump of around 10k Euro just in the last few days, even tho it stood basically still before.
It is clear the group is growing in numbers and the hatecampaign helps them to get people who are on the fence to join them.

This whole thing is about going through steps of escalation. What will happen when the first of them actually go to jail? Not just for a month, but actually get years long confinement? Then even more of the people who are not supporting their form of protest but support their cause will be drawn onto side, because they see it as an unproportional penalty if these kids have to go to jail over very little while politicians and rich people destroying nature and social systems face no consequences.
You can see that right now if you follow social media and opinion pieces in traditional media closely. A lot of people who do not endorse the group now speak out against the populist hatecampaign that LG faces.
It is exactly the same mechanism as with Trump. Trump says s th horrible even many republicans do not agree with, but the backlash against him makes even those republicans endorse him on the long run. It just works.

Democrat may not be a good party, but at least they're better than republicans. I hope they win as many election as possible because any republican having power is disaster.

My view since some time is that the traditional conservatism is dead or dying, globally.

One of the core aspects of conservatism is to stand for a rule based order, both domestically and internationally. Even your run-off-the-mill "evil" republicans like Thatcher or Reagan would never question election integrity (unless there is an actual reason for it) or try to undermine trust into the state.
The same goes for your Camerons, Berlusconis, Merkels, Sarkozys and so on.
The general message of conservatism usually is "don't worry about anything, just keep working. The state works and we will ensure it keeps working".

But that message is not what the successors of traditional conservatism say now. Trump runs on "the system is broken and only I can fix it", and you can see that in other countries, too.
Either the traditional conservative parties die (like in france, where the republicans slowly cease to exist in favor of rightwing populists.
Or, like in the US or to a slower extent in Germany, the traditional conservative party is taken over by rightwing populists.

I do not think there is a proper way for conervatives to fight back against that. And I do not think that rightwing populism has many options to establish itself on the long run except by going increasingly authoritarian.
The big question is how the middle and left can effectively fight back against it. Right now, there is still some denial about what is happening.

It is not going to be a red wave, that is good. If we are lucky, democrats hold the Senate (keeping the house is not impossible, but certainly not probable).
