If you have to qualify it, it's not really a "win". It's a referendum on the current state of the country and his presidency. Qualifiers are nice, there may be a silver lining, but it's not a win for his agenda or anything of the sort. He'll be accomplishing even less going forward.
Republicans are going to just be lockstep obstructionist and the ones that might have worked with the Dems in the past are going to hope and pray that someone like Trump isn't the nominee. They won't forsake their own agendas in the hopes that it'll play well in their purple districts like when Trump was President.
Its not a silver lining when you defy a trend that hit every president in the last 30 years. If this is a referendum on biden, he won it because he came out better than all presidents except bush jr, and bush jr had 9/11 in the year before midterms.
Republicans will keep being obstructionist, that is for sure. But this will not be very easy for them when democrats are just missing 5 seats or less and hold the senate. Most republicans vote on party lines, but you can find 5 if you try hard enough.
Both Obama and Trump had to work with 17 or more votes missing and that is a lot harder to accomplish. And as I said, at least Biden was able to get republicans to vote for his infrastructure Bill before, so why wouldn't he be able to do it again?
Dont get me wrong, having the house is better than not having the house. But only missing 5 votes and keeping the senate (while also getting a governor's seat) is pretty good and enables democrats to keep working with somewhat more leeway than Obama's and Trump's governments after their first midterm election.
Nah, she definitely has been absent from the spotlight. She has a few gaffes under her belt so perhaps she was strategically removed from it? Allegedly she is still fairly important in biden's decision making but even if that is true it's not good politics for her to not be on the spotlight.
Yeah but these diplomatic things typically got coverage in our media, they even did with Mike Pence whom you couldn't sell of as popular even to the hardest right wing USA fanboys.
This is definitely new. I've even tried today with my dad who watches news every day and even he said Pelosi xD
Independently from how the remaining house races go, I think this election is certainly going to lead to GOP infighting.
The GOP accepted the Maga loonies when they were useful, with all the Q bullshit, but this time, a lot of power they probably could have had was lost when they let electiondeniers and other kinds of crazy people run for them.
Boebert, no matter whether she still wins or loses, is one such example. She had a surefire GOP seat (according to polls) to defend and either loses or came very close to losing.
Joe Kent is another hardcore Maga republican that lost a surefire seat in washington.
If Trump actually runs again against De Santis, he is going to lose and the GOP will heavily push Desantis. But Trump retains some of the crazy crowd and if he rallies those against the republicans (and that would not be unlikely), that would be very helpful for democrats.
In this election, Gen Z and Millenials came out very strong, which is unusual especially for a midterm election. Biden might not have very amazing popularity numbers right now, but i have zero doubt that these gen z people will come out again to prevent desantis or trump. If republicans keep being a deathcult that wants to lead america into a dictatorship, there are now more and more people who will reliably go to the polls to prevent that.
I think BIden not being insanely popular but reliable can play into democrats favor, too, if Biden does not run again. Then they might be able to replace him with someone more popular without disappointing too many voters.
Yeah... I can understand looking at the positives of both sides and then trying to incorporate both into policy. But I think it'd be better to pick the political leaning that has the most policies you agree with, and THEN incorporate something from the other side you think contributes to the betterment of your own party, or society in general.
I don't however agree with the idea of fighting on the premise that your ideas are better than the other's ideas, and then getting into power and deciding to kneecap yourself so that the other side can still contribute the bad ideas you fought so hard against in the first place. The "leaning across the isle" shit where you don't go as far left as you want for the right's sake.
Reminds me of how when a new console generation starts, but all the games coming out are cross-generation titles in order to gain sales for them on both the new system and the old system. You can't make the new PS5 game too graphically advanced or else you'll miss out on those old PS4 sales. And because of that instead of an awesome new PS5 game, you get a slightly enhanced PS4 game.
Yeah. But not as good as they'd like. The left seems to be happy because it indicates the MAGA-style Republicans are losing grip on the Republican party. There are a lot of big Republican pundit figures turning their backs on Trump too, helping with the exodus. Ann Coulter for example:
One thing that is comforting in a cynical way is that dems played the gerrymandering game much better than it was to be expected. They probably even improved the map a little for them.
Gerrymandering should not be a thing, but i am happy that they didnt let the GOP get away with it without doing it themselves.
I don't really think there's positives to both sides anymore. One party at least pretends/attempts to help the most amount of people (even if it's for votes, who cares) while still sucking off their corporate masters. The other is full of navel-gazing sociopaths who seem like they would still struggle to grasp the concept of "walk a mile in their shoes" even if they were forced into destitution.

As an aside, this has always been going on for major PC releases as well. Which makes the most sense since consoles have almost always had more sales, so catering to that platform first and foremost. I guess this is the only instance in life where I don't feel guilty complaining about the elite not being catered to...

I don't either. I was larping as someone who defines themself as a centrist because that's the reason they often give. "Both sides have strengths and weaknesses", they say.

Yeah, precisely. I can imagine thousands of PC master race bros fuming because their $3,000 gaming rig can run Skyrim at a higher framerate than the PS3 can, but you're only getting 1080p resolution instead of 720p and the graphics are essentially the same.

I'm not sure if we really should be that happy because we still have fucked up people like Boebert and DeSantis in power, or at least the latter. All it really takes is someone else being a racist, gun-fucking piece of trash to get the popularity that Trump got. Though not overdo it the way Jeb Bush did with guns.

That's why I vote for Dem despite seeing them bad. I'd rather have them attempting to help people for votes over republicans actively hurting people knowing they'll get support anyway or can cheat their way into victory. There's still some positives to Dems.
Hmm, lots of news about democrats "winning" the senate even though with sinema and manchin it would literally be easier for republicans to pass legislation than for democrats. I suppose things would get interesting if democrats end up winning georgia and they only have to grovel for only one of their votes to still pass nothing.
Very dissapointed student debt relief continues to be blocked. I dont want to have to keep paying 300-400 dollars for like 7 more years Regardless, its the same cost as my monthly car payment, wonder which will be paid off sooner.
I was hoping for a blue wave.
I dont know where politicians saw that a red tsunami was coming.
So trump officially announced his presidency... No surprises there. Now the waiting begins. Two more years of biden being an inept and clueless brand of politics with no policy or messaging whatsoever to perfectly set up trump's return.

Not a fan of Biden ultimately, but this kind of thing should be effective.
But it's still at least a year before people really pay attention to the election cycle and we saw how quickly people got distracted from the abortion issue earlier in the year, even if it's ultimately what prevented a complete changeover in Congress. So we'll see.
I think its relatively unlikely trump wins the nomination again. Republicans are tired of him by now and De Santis brought results in Florida (horribly enough).
If things go really well, trump runs third.
But I think what trump would do is to threaten his run as a third candidate to get something else he wants from republicans, whatever that might be.
