@xi0 I am saying islamic terrorism is not a problem over there because it has to be compared with domestic shootings.
We largely ignore the reasons why someone does a mass shooting or any random murders.
For example, dylan roof was not charged with terrorism, even tho he clearly functioned like the guys you talked about.
He read propaganda material in the internet and carried out an attack.
It isnt even always clear in how far those people are linked to ISIS or the jihadi scene (in fact, the guy in orlando was the example par excellence of your typical american mass shooter.
From wikipedia:
Following the nightclub attack, Mateen's ex-wife told media outlets that during their marriage, Mateen was mentally unstable, and would beat her and keep her completely separated from her family. She also said that he was
bipolar and had a history of using
steroids.A former high school student told the
Washington Post that he witnessed 15-year-old Mateen on the day of the September 11 attacks being
physically assaulted by his father, Mir Seddique Mateen, in front of other students.
(....)
A former coworker who worked with Mateen in a
gated community in western Port St. Lucie described him as "unhinged and unstable". He also said that he frequently made
homophobic,
racist, and
sexist comments, and talked about killing people. The coworker stated he complained to G4S about Mateen "several times";another co-worker told
The New York Times Mateen made people wait at the gate for a number of reasons, including "if it was time for him to do his prayers." A resident who had lived at the community since 2011 described Mateen as "very polite" and "a very nice, positive person", however, another customer said Mateen "acted like a straight-up predator
This all points to a bipolar personality disorder like his wife claimed. He is the example of your typical american massshooter par excellence: history of domestic violence, two faced, drug abuse andannouncing his violent thoughts beforehand.
He went to the mosque and prayed, alright, because he was a muslim, but this is clearly not your indoctrinated guy who thinks he dies for the jihad.
This guy, much like elliot rodgers or dylan roof or whoever you take, wanted to commit violence and THEN he searched excuses for it.
That can hardly be called islamic terrorism, the same could have happened by any other homosexual hater in the US.
There are countless of killiings against lgbt people in the US. There are countless of acts of violence and even many mass shootings fueled by nothing but sexism and hate against women, and there were mass shootings fueled by nothing but hate against blacks.
Noone however said there was a white terrorism problem, or that there is a male terrorism problem.
Even now the US struggles to call this act terrorism against homosexuals (and it was that and nothing else) and rather coins it as an islamic attack.
But it is not more an islamic attack than the guy who attacked the abortion clinic was a christian terrorist.
9/11 was a clear islamic terror strike. Those were people indeed fueled by jihad, well organized people.
The guy in orlando was your typical insane solo shooter.
While it is true that someone who is a) deadset and b) competent is hard to be stopped and wont be stopped just by strikter gun laws, even then it makes his life harder. And most people are not competent at that.
The case you cited, the boston bombings, were in fact a terrorist attack. As far as it is known, at least the older brother was led by islamic radicalism.
However, at the boston marathon, they were able to kill 6 people on a whole.
This is a tragedy, but if they would have had assault rifles, then it would have been more then 6 most definitely.
So i do think that stricter weapon laws would not only diminish the victims of mass shootings, but would also actually make the life of islamic terrorists much harder.
Because as i said, even if someone does not agree with me on what is actual islamic jihadist terror and what not, it can hardly be argued that the persons, whether muslim or nonmuslim, who commit such acts function almost identically and thus can be hindered almost identically.[/quote]
