I mean, I sort of object to this discussion because you insist on boiling issue down to such a degree. I have a problem with war profiteers, just like you. But slashing the DoD budget just isn't the solution to our problems IMO. Our foreign policy needs to be better and more people held accountable.

You "hear"? I mean...okay. If you have assets overseas they might be compromised eventually. The only way to prevent that chance is to have no bases anywhere.

Officers? Police? Police has nothing to do with the federal defense budgeting for the most part. And depending on who you talk to, they don't even think they should be funded or exist anymore lol
tbh I heard from a source or two Shark posted long ago. I feel it's good to use conservative sources just to show one is not blind, though I did get a lot of my news from conservative papers.

How many of them actually think that? Guess the pro-police people are just too loud that you can't hear those who think the police shouldn't be funded or exist anymore.

Unless people are already aware of this a long time ago, a Tape has been leaked that's about how Trump (and Billy Bush; the cousin of George Bush) brags about groping women. Billy is already under fire, and I wonder how this would affect Trump's voters (especially the Women and religious people).
It'll probably cause him to lose women voters, but other than that I can't see Trump being in trouble. His supporters are already defending him and deflecting to Bill assaulting women. I"m also sure the republican politicians who claim to denounce him (eventually anyway, if not just his words) will still vote for him because he's a republican. I've read many of them denounced his words, but not Trump himself.
Honestly, I don't think trump supporters will care about the new video with trump being overly gropey. Why would they? They already knew trump treated women like accessories to screw. And it's not even the worst he has done. By far. Will it hurt him with his party? Yeah. But he had already alienated them anyways.
They most likely don't care, since he's a republican. I see the outrage/concern being fake for the most part.

I see a number of issues with this idea. The first is that trump is actually dumb. He made it this far basically winging it and putting a reality tv style show. The guy does not plan or anything of the sort. Just look at his entire campaign. It has been a mess from day one. The guy did not even have the foresight to prepare for the debate and after the debate he kept saying that he actually won based on online polls. The guy is simply too stupid to plan anything at all.

The second issue here is that there is no rational reason for pence to be the nominee if trump leaves. Just because trump leaves does not mean he gets to pick his replacement. The party should have to appoint someone in which case they can do better than the guy who says cigarettes don't cause cancer.

I don't see trump quitting the election.... Though it is likely that he will loose more support from republicans.

On another note, here is the simultaneously saddest and funniest thing you will see today:

Look at this son of a bitch campaigning for donald trump. After donald trump called his father a murderer and ridiculed his wife. The worst part is that he can't even stop his endorsement of trump at this point. Because it's unlikely to be worst than the stuff trump already did.
I don't get ted cruz. When he didnt endorse trump at the RNC, i thought it was smart because trump's campagin would implode and he would be able to say 'well guys, not me, i am free of guilt'.
But....Then he endorsed him anyway? You do one thing, or you do the other. But like that he showed for all times how few spine he has.
Kasich played it smarter. he left open whether he'd endorse trump and now says it is 'unlikely he will vote for him'.
He also declided the offer to be running mate, allegedly. Kasich did the right thing there.

Trump was always a sinking ship. If not in the election, then in the next one. Everyone who endorsed trump and vouched for him will feel the backlash.

Except maybe Mike Pence. He can say 'oh well i tried to run with him but i always was against what he said'.
He could even twist it as a 'i tried to minimize damage' story.

However, what's actually surprising is that he did apologized for his comments. He's not being the same old egotistical prick he was a couple months ago.

At least there's one good thing I can say about this election: It's destroying both the Republican Party and Politicians who now turned into Trump's bitch on a golden leash. I'm already laughing that Trump stomped on Christ Chritie's career, and now Ted Cruz? Absolutely glorious. :maracas

The problem here is that Ted Cruz and the rest of the 2016 candidates made a pledge to support the nominee, which Reince Priebus would punish any candidates who refused to endorse and support Trump. Ted Cruz had no other choice but to do so unless he gets punished.
Kasich will most likely prefer a penalty than endorse Trump (unless Reince does something like blackmailing him). I've gotta hand it to Kasich tho, he's still have his pride and reputation. Supporting Trump would end up hurting his image (hell, he even turned down the offer to be Trump's VP).

Yeah, honestly, Kasich is the only one from the republican contestants whose pride is still intact.
As for all the other candidates, i think their shot at ever becoming president is over.

Id take Rubio.

I dont understand peoples comments online about it being the republican party leaders trump was selected, he won by the popular vote, did people want party leaders to ignore what people voted for? It wasnt even a *close* race.

Well, given how things developed I would argue that cruz endorsed trump because he was a sinking ship rather than in spite of it. If anything he made this perfectly clear. Ted cruz is a right wing religious zealot and nutjob (and being realistic, he is also racist). To such a degree that even his own party think he is insane and have called him all sorts of names (everything between satan himself and a son of a bitch). In his eyes the worst thing that ever happened to the country is obama and his liberal agenda. And hillary plans on continuing said agenda. With that in mind it makes perfect sense that he saw trump as the better alternative.

As for feeling the backslash eventually.... Well, I think they would feel the backslash if trump looses but they wouldn't have felt it if trump won. Trump isn't an accident or anything of the sort. Some of the stuff trump says don't sit well with normal republicans but overall republicans don't actually take issue with most of the stuff trump says. What trump has been taking heat from republicans is from merely a few things which have made a lot of noise. When trump was made the presidential candidate Paul Ryan made the point that trump actually had a lot of positions which he shared with the party. And he was absolutely correct about that. On the whole, republicans agree with 90% of what trump says. but there is a 10% of idiotic things he says which even they take issue with. It wouldn't even be the first time the republican party picks an actual idiot to run the country. Bush ended up being a meme for retard and as president of the US was universally hated by US allies. He was a laughingstock and a moron. Then you have Reagan. Another figure whom his peers thought was an idiot (even Margaret Thatcher thought he was a moron and she was his ally). The previous republican nominee was Mitt Romney. Yet another right wing nutjob and fundamentalist religious zealot. And before him you have Mccain. Many things could be said about him. Luckily they can also be summed up in the fact that he picked Sarah "coocoo for coocoa puffs" palin as VP. And even the people who were up against trump. The "sane" ones were Kasich, Jeb and Rubio (and rubio is the worst of the 3 being that he is a generic republican drone who has never had an idea of his own). And there isn't an universe in which they aren't in fact right wing nut jobs who shared 90% of their actual positions with trump. And out of them only rubio managed to remain in the race for a bit. Other than that you had carson, who made a brilliant job of putting his ignorance on issues and sleepiness on stage. And Freaking ted cruz whom I am already bored of insulting. Republicans would love a trump presidency. The same way they loved GwB and the same way they loved Reagan.

Honestly, I don't see how this is any worst than any of the other stuff he has said before. His supporters do not give a crap about this. If they did then trump wouldn't have made it even into the primaries. And from what I can tell trump already has plenty of support from the religious people in his party.

But I'm sure there are plenty of religious voters who aren't as insane as Trump Supporters. To think that there are those who still think that Trump is a "good religious fellow" when he's nowhere near a moral being is just stunning (then again, I shouldn't be surprised considering how there are people like that in the world; it happened with Hitler, and it's happening with Erdogan).

So it looks like John McCain and Joe Heck has withdrawn their support for Donald Trump after the Tape leaked. There are plenty more people who are changing their stance on supporting Trump.

I mean, I have nothing to quote at the moment, but it's a sentiment I've seen that exists among people involved in the BLM movement and even some hardcore libertarians. I'm all for sensible reform, but the issue at hand doesn't exist solely because police officers are bigoted. The variation when it comes to the nature of these incidents is also quite large as well. Yet, you have groups like BLM treating them all the same and with similar amounts of outrage, when that serves no one well really.

Ted Cruz is tethered to Washington, Kasich isn't. I think we can all make value judgments on both of these guys based on their past, but Kasich is a governor, and Cruz is a Senator. Cruz would still have to deal with the political machine in DC more than Kasich would. I think that's simple enough of an explanation honestly....but it is pretty pathetic. :lmao

@Franckie I don#t see it that way.
If anything, republicans noticed now that they won't ever win a presidency again with far right wing conspiracy nutjobs.
They know full well that their chances with people like jeb bush, Pence or even Cruz or Rubio would have been much higher.
Those guys are far right wing, too, but they are at least seemingly sane people.
And even those have a problem. Clinton had a likeability problem initially which she could get hold off in her debate.
What will the reps do in an ever growing hispanic population against actually welliked candidates like sanders or a second obama?
They have no answer for that if they don't take a left turn.
I don't agree with your assessment. Democrats have a good chance of winning the presidency this year only because Trump is such a bizarre, outlier candidate. Yet this nutjob is virtually guaranteed to acquire ~45% of all votes cast come election day. Any "sane" nutjob (e.g. Kasich) would be doing far infinitely better than him, especially given the fatigue voters are feeling with Obama and Clinton.

Something that is worth paying attention to is how many Senate seats Republicans win this year. The odds of a 50/50 Senate are pretty good. This is peculiar given that presidential years tend to favor Democrats. Yet Republicans are only a sliver away from controlling the Senate (and are virtually guaranteed to win control once 2018 midterms hit). This also means that Clinton runs the risk of being a one-term candidate come 2020. Republicans winning the presidency again is only a matter of time (e.g. too many voters vote third-party and/or stay home), and once they control both the legislature and the presidency, we'll have a rerun of the insanity of the Bush years.

What makes Republicans crazy is that they never learn from their mistakes. "Conservatism cannot fail, you can only fail conservatism" the saying goes (though Rs really aren't conservative, but increasingly authoritative reactionaries).

I don't get ted cruz. When he didnt endorse trump at the RNC, i thought it was smart because trump's campagin would implode and he would be able to say 'well guys, not me, i am free of guilt'.

Another thing I don't agree with. Cruz not endorsing Trump was stupid given the nature of the Republican Party. Come election day Cruz's base would remember him as a turncoat whose refusal to endorse Trump allowed Hillary Clinton to become elected, not as a "principled conservative". Consider how Cruz's popularity tanked considerably in his home state for refusing to endorse Trump. There is no middle ground with the party. You are either with them or against them. If Cruz is to even have a chance of securing the 2020 nomination. he'll need Trump's base and support in order to win. And that isn't factoring in Cruz doing everything he can to keep his Senate seat.

Firstly, i agree that the senate forecasts give us a good estimation of people who generally favour dem's and people who generally davour reps.
Not completely, because the turnout is usually low, but still.
It is one problem of the american democracy that noone cares for senate but people only care for the presidential elections.

In any case, the 45% trump got seem worse than they are (also, more like 42 and shrinking).
First of all, clinton was a very unliked candidate (at least initially) too. Probably more than any other democrat who ran for office in the last time.
Then you got the people who vote rep no matter what, which is a very big group. That sounds like an objection to my claim, but it simply means that the people who usually vote reps but didnt do it this time are not a very large group.
Lastly, trump mobilized some people who usually would not vote at all.
Those people were among the bernie bros, too, but they certainly are not clinton supporters.

If we take all that into consideration, and also consider that time is against the republicans (after all, they only led in white men, and those are getting fewer and fewer), then i don't think there should be a big fear about a republican presidency+congress.

That can only happen if the republicans do their homework and change some of their stances.
I don't see trump as a rise of nutjobs. it is more like a last stand of nutjobs.

A FB friend defended Trump and said "well, I was a crazy shithead ten years ago!" which is a dumb argument given she was 18, at most, while Trump was 60, a fucking adult. I'm not sure if many religious people care either, if anything they'd probably think Trump believes women should be restricted to a gender role and agree with him.

It's not shocking he apologized. I am pretty sure it's not sincere at all, and that he knows he has to do it to avoid losing too many voters. Oh, I thought you were talking about the police/military thinking that. but yeah, even dermie said the police are unnecessary and should cease to exist. Clearly I disagree with the idea, but the police should be trained or vetted better. I'd much rather have the police than citizens policing the communities as many who are against the police seem to argue for.

I don't think BLM treats them all the same, but they do sometimes jump the gun. But then again, I wouldn't have known about a black man being shot by the cops when he pulled his gun if it weren't for FB, so it's not like BLM brings up every single incident as racism or cop brutality. Maybe few have, but I've never seen it.

The outrage would serve people well if the media and pro-police people didn't keep twisting things. I mean, The Daily News or New York Post or both posted a picture of a black man stealing toilet papers during the riot and barely addressed the actual protest, or they called the riot protest inaccurately. People believed that or people shared pictures like that to make it look like BLM was violent, and that the rioters were part of the BLM (when most, if not all, weren't) to try and discredit the movement. Hell, most of them counter with Blue Lives Matter (which doesn't really work when the officers aren't in danger) or All Lives Matter (biggest hypocrisy ever).

Of course there's a philosophical argument to be had in regards to authority and free will, but I don't think eliminating police is pragmatic at all. That's way too Utopian in outlook to me. You'll find no argument from me in regards to police training. I've never been through it and I don't know enough about it. But it does often feel like some people in uniform don't seem physically capable of subduing people without using potentially lethal force. So someone being trained to use their weapon is a natural consequence. Another notable issue is the laws themselves, not necessarily those in charge of enforcing them.

I don't think BLM treats them all the same, but they do sometimes jump the gun. I mean, that's not the exact impression I get from it. It isn't necessarily BLM perpetrating and inflaming things, the media plays a role as well. Whenever you have viral, hashtag movements, they're way too nebulous to make succinct statements about or attribute things to with much conviction. I just think there is way too many aspects of it involving the recklessness of social media, anonymity, and mob mentality/justice for my tastes. And that goes for any movement that springs up in reaction to it as well. I'm not in denial of there being a problem though, however I think it is owed much more nuance than the people on either "side" are apparently willing to give it. In that way, I guess it's really no different than any topic involving race, and there is definitely a visceral reaction people have when it comes to the loss of life, but it isn't necessarily always rational either.

True, but there is a difference between what people says on Social Media, and various polls that indicates Hillary winning the election.
Religious people are mostly looking for a "good man with a good heart", which Trump isn't anywhere near that. I guess it's just the type of voters they are.
That's not necessarily the case; I don't seem to recall that Trump believes women should stick to their role.

I'm just surprised because he's finally understanding that this is the point where Trump needs to do his very best (not his very worse) if he wants to win the election. His stupid tactics may have worked in the primaries, but this is the bigger stage he's in.

I'm sure he is. Just watching these 2 reduced from well-known politicians to Trump's servants is really the best thing to happen for the GOP.

But it does often feel like some people in uniform don't seem physically capable of subduing people without using potentially lethal force. So someone being trained to use their weapon is a natural consequence. Another notable issue is the laws themselves, not necessarily those in charge of enforcing them.
I've read that police in other countries can subdue suspects without resorting to guns as well, but if I recall guns are banned in countries like UK, so there's that. If anything, tasers should be the first line of offense before guns.

I think those who can punish police are also the issue here because they choose to not press charges most of the time when they should. Part of the BLM movement is about officers receiving punishment instead of being cleared of charges. If they get cleared of murder constantly, then they're more likely to kill and get better at getting away with it.

They do, but I see conservative sources mainly defending the cops more than anything. I think while BLM is too big and disorganized., the other side makes it worse with bad information and denial of the truth. BLM does have to stop getting violent and start being more well-planned and not as crazy.

Not as much of a difference, as someone suggested that Trump supporters may stay hidden due to the stigma.

I think he's understood that long ago, but he had a strategy. Most republicans are derps, so he used that to his advantage to win the primaries, and now he has to be more careful. He's not doing a good job of that though.

Yep, I love seeing the governor of my state be a bitch.

What? Im so glad shes in last place as this is awful proposed legislature. Not only will it eliminate people from putting food on their tables and clothes on their families back, but now every person in America will have to pay a "pollution" tax? Senseless. She does know that the government itself doesnt even use a fleet of 100% green vehicles and have buildings running only on nonrenewable energy.

Her suggestion is actually reasonable.
You should be upset about what she says about vaccines, not that <:

While I am all for renewable energy, I do agree that this will definitely hurt the people than it will help. Besides, Non-renewable resources aren't the only sources of greenhouse gases (Methane is far more dense than Carbon Dioxide, which is normally found is areas like farms).

And then there's the idea where she thinks Nuclear weapons are developed in Nuclear Power Plants.

Thank god she's doing extremely poorly in the Race.

Ya. I mean, i think it is one of the worst aspects of the US democracy that it is almost impossible to have a relevant third party.
But with gary and jill? Not mad that they are not relevant in this election.

I am thrilled for the debate again.
But i already ate my pizza. i Will have to watch it wishing for more pizza.

Anyway: I think Clinton got this one in the bag, too.
She has been through these townhall debates and knows the format. Trump couldnt even hold his own in a debate with a moderator.
What if some single mother asks him how to get by when she has 2 children and 2 jobs but still does not make enough money?

Will he tell her 'well we will have better jobs'?
He will say something insensitive, i am pretty sure for that.

Then clinton steps in and says some of the nice sentences she knows by heart since 20 years (not judging here, that's the job) and trump will shout SHE IS LYING SHE IS LYING TO YOU WYNONA. SHE WANTS TO TAKE YOUR SECOND JOB AWAY WYNONA!!!

That's about how i imagine this to go down.

Agreed. I can't seem to find myself to like Gary Johnson, and Jill Stein should stick to Medical fields (then again, it's like you said: look at her comments about Vaccines). It truly hurts to see all 4 Party member having horrible/least likable candidates.

It is problematic if americans feel like they don't have a choice, yes.
That said, i am excited about clinton as president, i think she will do a good job <:

But ya, this is what i mean: Having a valid third party helps to keep voter's satisfied.
