No, they are not. Current US backed regime is fragile. They neither have the ability to keep Talibans on check nor have the support of Afghan people. US leaves and Talibans take power. And they would be backed by Pakistan and Russia. And Afghanistan is much more important than Iraq. If America wants to influence central Asia, they would want to have their backed govt in power at Afghanistan. This country has border with Pakistan, India, China, Iran and some Soviet states. 35% of world population right there. The only ally US has there is India and the way India is growing they in the future a US-India relation might be dominated by India and they would care about their own interest in that immediate region over USA's
Those statements are not contradictory.
The US is not really that caring about whether taliban reign afghanistan.
Don't forget: Before the taliban took power, there was a democratic opposition begging the US to fight them. The US didnt.
Afghanistan was blind activism back when 9/11 happened, it was not a geostrategical powerplay.
What influence would Afghanistan give the US in that region? They cannot dronewar in pakistan that well anymore, but on the other hand , why would they even need to by now?
Al qaida is active everywhere now, so is ISIS. The dronewar was effective before the rise of ISIS, but by now some old men in Waziristan are irrelevant.
It is not like the troops the US has there by now are anything significant that would enable them to control more than a patch of desert.
The US wants out, they just don't want to face the claims about how they left all those poor people to die when the Taliban return.
But i don't think the Trump administration cares about that all that much as Obama might have.
I think you're forgetting India here. A country with 1.25bn people and a economy which is predicted by many to surpass economy of US and EU in the future. I'd say present day India is more important than EU to world economy. Trump is doing a good job with relation with India. Israel and India are probably the only two country happy with Trump so far.
India has so many problems that it will not be a global player any time soon.
Let's look at your statement:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(nominal)#Lists
India is less important for the world trade than big european nations are (because let's face it, even countries like italy with a lower GDP export more valuable techonology on a whole, while india exports a lot of products like clothes and stuff).
The most important blocks tradewise are the EU and the US, for reasons of sheer volume and also the products they export (which are mostly high tech that you cannot really buy anywhere else).
China caught up really fast and is fit (after they solved their problems, that is, what is true for india is true for china too: A big part of their trading volume comes from cheap products they can sell to poor asians countries but they do not have significance for the west) to be just as important as the US and the EU.
But no other block even comes close to those three, and i wouldnt bet on India even surpassing the big three european nations anytime soon.
India has MANY MANY MANY problems to solve before they can get into that range.
You are too hopeful. I don't know who will win in Germany but In France it will be Le Pen
And if Italy and France leave......EU becomes
EU countries should ask Turkey to join EU and hope that someone other than Le Pen wins so EU might exist after 20,years
Well we can discuss that in the EU threat, but just briefly: Le Pen is not going to win.
Everything points to a win of Macron, who is very pro EU.
France won't leave the EU in the next term of the french president.
Italy leaving is a long shot, but it is not impossible. That would ACTUALLY be devastating, but once again: As long as France and Germany are in the european nation, it wont break apart.
If countries from the south leave that, paradoxically, could even leave the EU as being more stable than before because the Euro would be more stable than before.
Also, I wanna see britain leaving first.
