What concerns me is Barr's ambivalent responses to questions about the investigation during his Senate hearing. At best, I see someone who's a textbook AG in terms of his approach to the law. At worse, like I said, someone who's got Drumpf's dick in his mouth.
Personally speaking, I'm hedging on his position on whether he's truly neutral on the issue.
It's hard to say, I don't really know anything about barr. At a minimum he will be under a microscope so anything even slightly suspicious would cause a fair bit of outrage. And I am inclined to thinking that IF there is anything serious in the report it would take a particularly stupid republican to even try to cover for trump. And while there might be people that would try that for trump, nothing i've read so far would suggest barr would be one. And also worth noting, while the end of the investigation does seem probable, I don't think its certain. At least based on my current understanding of the situation.
Anyways, given how things have played out so far, my guess would be that muller did not find any evidence that trump himself colluded: Here are a few possibilities:
- muller found no evidence that trump colluded but there are some scathing remarks about how trump surrounded himself by people with connections to the russian government either out of sheer incompetence or intentionally (but no evidence of direct trump collaboration).
- muller goes for obstruction of justice charges. Trump did admit he fired comey due to the russia investigation. On national tv. In saner and more honest times that would have warranted at least starting impeachment proceedings.... Add to that a number of other things trump has done to interfere with the investigations. Trump possibly working with manafort and agreeing on a pardon also appears to be clear obstruction of justice. this would be one of the more interesting things to look forward to.
- Muller got into trump's finances. reporting around this is murky so I am not sure if muller ever got to this. it'd make sense at least considering trump never released his tax returns. And of course the easiest way to spot corruption is to follow the money.
- Donald jr might come up again regarding that meeting...
I do think there will be more serious stuff with people surrounding trump in general. most of the impeachments and guilty pleas so far involve people lying about russian contacts or about other stuff... It'd be fairly strange at a minimum that there are so many people around trump that would risk perjury without there being more going on. It's not only indictments, there are guilty pleas and agreeing to collaborate with the investigation.
