I would guess only a tiny minority of the population reads the news.

There are countless millennials who are huge fans of the Saw horror genre and Hannibal Lecter TV series. People who pride themselves on being into things that are messed up. Who would never read or watch real news. Reality is too disturbing, they would prefer to avoid it.

Being exposed to different ideas and perspectives carries the power to change people. That can be frightening. Like one day being a caterpillar. Being exposed to new ideas. And waking up a butterfly. Or a moth. A person's identity and how they view the world changes. And so many resist that change and cling to their identity via avoiding exposure.

Like Mary Poppins says: "a spoonful of sugar, helps the medicine go down". All news publications today mix real news with fake news to make their "medicine" easier to swallow. Most are wholly unaware, clinging to their identity. Resisting the evolution of change which occurs when people are exposed to truth/facts.
The irony of this is that most, if not all, right wingers would rather watch or read "news" that agree with their PoV, like Fox News or InfoWars. From what I know, more millennials are likely to read the news and more likely to know what's fake and what's real than older gens. You seem like one of those millennials that like to criticize their own generation just to look cool and edgy, and given some other things you've posted, I'm pretty sure this is correct. While all news publications are guilty of mixing real news with fake or opinions, no sources are worse than right wing sources, and I've read many of them.

Trump is a prime example of this, watching Fox News and reading Breitbart ONLY because it paints him in a good light most of the time. If he gets criticized, he'll go on Twitter, cry about it, and attack the critics with some bullshit and show the world that he's an inept crybaby president. It also doesn't help when he tries to take credit for Obama's successes (like the economy) or puts the blame on Obama (pandemic response) despite evidence proving him a liar.

Imagine if there was someone in the world who actually wanted to fix problems relating to poverty, healthcare, crime, racism, war, inequality and so on. The first step would be to learn about those issues. Labels like right wing or left wing would be cast aside. The goal would be to get to the truth/facts of things.

Out of all of the people in the world, how many care enough about real issues to make an effort to educate themselves? In my experience, the answer is: almost no one. Everyone wants to speak as if they're the chosen one with all the answers. No one cares enough to invest the time or effort to get real answers. Both left wing and right wing share this in common. Topics relating to political reform and social progress are dominated by demographics whose only interest is fattening their wallets, stroking their egos or pushing an agenda of some type.

Neither boomers nor millennials can claim a patent on legitimacy. Both boomers and millennials are identical in most respects. The only real difference is boomers having lived through more of history and recognizing more about how it has changed. Millennials also carry a disadvantage of having been processed through state run education during an era where it was far more corrupt.

Right wing and left wing aren't just arbitrary terms though. Your political beliefs have existed before, and exist on a scale, and names have been given to those beliefs. It's a system of categorizing. If you mean that the world will come together to fix issues? Even that isn't true, in fact differences about how to 'fix' the world have caused the most divisive politics we have seen. A lot of people want to fix the world, a lot of people on both sides of the aisle believe in defeating the issue of poverty the disagreement comes from how to do it. You run into problems like people seeing the system as the problem vs people seeing people as the problem, etc.

Everyone wants to speak as if they're the chosen one with all the answers.
But isn't that what you've been doing? Anecdotes and conjecture are so far all you've offered and you've worded them as if they are factual. If you would like to cite or link hard data behind anything you've claimed I'd be happy to read it but so far you are only warning us against the very person that you portray yourself as.

Challenging me to better solidify my perspective. Is a horrible move on your part.

I'm avoiding that as a courtesy in trying to respect peoples views. Forcing me to do otherwise is such an atrociously bad idea, I don't know why you'd go there.

It was an offer, not a challenge. There isn't much of a conversation if nothing you claim can be backed up by facts or data. If you think it's a bad idea to have that conversation then we won't.

I'm curious as to what people think about things. Changing others perspectives doesn't really interest me anymore. If people want to think Trump is a racist. They're free to. I'm trying to respect pplz free will, choice and opinions by not spamming evidence suggesting Trump isn't a racist.

Like this for example:
Well, look @ that.

I'm trying to avoid posting that type of content. So please don't twist my arm and encourage me to do it claiming that I don't have evidence to support things I say. Because in truth, I usually have an overwhelming amount of it.

Trump was honored for developmental accomplishments and his German heritage, not for any efforts to help black youths per this article and corroborated here. So that image is false and misleading, just fyi

Good eye.

Even if the meme is incorrect. There are things which are accurate, I would prefer to avoid posting. Cool?

Why would any of us want to stop you from posting inaccurate and misleading memes that hamstring your own arguments?

I actually don't have any interest in fact checking meme pictures. Do you have any cite-able sources that aren't just empty statements into the void?

There's a new york times article validating the 1st meme I posted regarding the Clinton's having a membership at a whites only golf course. The rest is basic history. You don't need a source for it. The democrat party and the left have always represented the largest demographics of racism. Its the reason they destroy landmarks, statues and history. In an effort to cover up their role in past atrocities.

What's your strategy or interest here?

I'm posting in order from least damaging to most damaging. I have plenty of other content but its more damaging to your side than the memes I posted.

Are you really going to push me to go there?

So if I first have to look up whatever you're talking about, and then debunk or address it I am doing both your job and my job. Because an image with no source is a statement. Whether or not it's true is irrelevant next to the fact that it cannot prove its own truth. It's empty and meaningless. If I am performing both my own labor, and your labor, and all you have to do is post meme pictures that mean and say nothing then we aren't having a conversation. I'm having a conversation.

I'm not interested in performing your mental and emotional labor for you, especially if it's an unpaid service, so what I'm asking you to do is to perform that for yourself. If you're not interested that's fine, just keep in mind that your pictures neither say nor mean anything. They are not capable of contributing to the conversation.

I get the impression xi0 and yourself were unhappy with my 2/10 effort devoted towards proving Trump isn't a racist.

And so you came here to incentivize me to try harder. So that I might post content which may be more damaging to your political affiliation and side than the content I was posting previously.

I was totally against this all along. But somehow, someway, you both managed to find a way to compel me to do it.

The only question is... why would anyone do that. You have me stumped. I must admit.

I love talking and discussions! You're active in this thread and so I would also like to see and read your contributions but I want them to be contributions too!

MLK didn't belong to any party... It's outright false that he belonged to the republican party. That's just history. And during the civil rights era, the republican party was against those... Add to that, the longest filibuster in history was carried out by a republican to stand up against the civil rights bill (or whatever the document was). neither the republican party not the democrat party today have the same views they had back during the civil war or even during the early 20th century... It's not as simple as saying the parties have switched views obviously but in broad terms republicans during the civil war were pro federal government, pro union and against slavery... southerners or democrats were pro slavery and extremely conservative folk that represented big plantations and whatnot. Also, come on, you don't see democrats proudly carrying confederate flags. As in, the very confederacy that betrayed the US and tried to leave it for the sake of slavery per its constitution....

I'm not unhappy, I just found it a bit floundering. I'm mostly a pragmatist, so I don't really care about the true beliefs held in one's heart, I care about what sort of effect their influence has. Trump would rather be liked by someone and be labeled a bigot than actually stand for something he believes in. In a way it's pitiable.

I don't think you know too much about my political affiliation other than I'm not a Trump supporter. I didn't vote for Clinton either, so pulling out some anti-Clinton meme doesn't really offend my sensibilities honestly.

The rest of them sort of read like GOP talking points that have no real bearing on today's condition though IMO

The people that do know about these issues, usually left wingers, get ignored or made fun of by liberals and the right, usually because these people don't understand much. Labels cannot be cast aside as the left, right, liberals, and center have different views on how to handle things. Often, the majority do not like to get to the facts of things, and conservatives especially like to lie or deceive people, based on what I"ve seen of their talking points.

From what I've seen, it's usually the left wingers that care enough about real issues that they try to educate themselves and talk about it. They tend to have more evidence to back up their points and aren't quick to believe what they want like liberals and conservatives are. I will admit I've come across very few conservatives/republicans who do actually invest time and effort to learn both sides and can be impartial. However, that's extremely rare.

Boomers have not only lived through more of history, they've also made and continue to make decisions that affect millennials horribly and then blame millennials for their conditions. Boomers benefited immensely from being born at the right time, from their predecessor generations affecting change that helped them to economy being very strong. I'm sure education was no better during that time either.

Good eye.

All I see is that you don't have anything accurate or solid, but you're just pretending you do. Instead of posting memes, post proof and evidence. Stop believing memes that agree with you, which I usually see Trump supporters do.

That's literally the only talking point most republicans have when talking about racism and the party.

I think that's the most important aspect. He is first and foremost a conman and a narcissist. He will take any position that seems to be favorable and say literally anything just to seem like he is doing great. The question is if anyone can stand for something they believe in and succeed in the current political climate where moderation seems to die out.

Idk, I feel like moderation is overrated. Too many people on the left care too much about appealing to moderate republicans, and it's paid them dust. The more the turnout is, the more it favors Democrats. Which implies that the GOP gerrymandering and voter suppression is done for a reason. Most Americans are liberal, or hold pretty liberal beliefs when it comes to many issues.
