There's this reoccurring theme with these white people getting the snot beat out of them and being treated like victims. Meanwhile, just a few minutes later you can see one pulled a knife on someone and was trying to stop looters for no reason, some asshole in Utah stopped in the middle of street during the protest armed with a hunting bow and opened fire on them, and now some asshole charged at people with a fucking sword/machete. And yet every time they're treated like they're some innocent bystander being victimized. Are people delusional?

I feel like the same thing, even just looking at videos, people only get defensive when the policejust launch tear gas, bean bags, and rubber bullets, then some are just shoving people who are already heading away and everything. Heavy handed enforcement of curfew...why? Then they put like 5 cops on one dude already on the ground hitting them with batons....excessive.

Also dont know who those crazy non-poc are that are just running people over with vehicles...like...why
That's basically cops in a nutshell. They abuse their powers, and it's been said that about 40% are domestically abusive as well. This is what happens when a group of people is never held accountable, they'll be violent thinking they can get away with it. This is what Black people deal with on a daily basis, so it's no wonder why they're angry and rioting when attacked.

The guy who was "trying to defend his store" chasing after a Black kid with a sword? That was so weird, and he looked like a pretzel at the end of the beating.

Same with the MAGA Hawkeye. He got his car burned, but he also got interviewed where he lied about what happened.

And by the knife one, you mean a woman on a wheelchair who was stabbing Black people but letting white people go?

Yep, white skin apparently makes you a good person, and these people often get interviewed where they can spin it into looking like a hero. Black people are just that negatively seen by a lot of people, and it doesn't help that they don't get interviewed.

But holy shit, I hope these past few days opened people's eyes to just how horrible the cops are, if not most cops. They're literally attacking peaceful protesters, and even kids aren't spared.

It won't open many eyes IMO. There's still too many people choosing to only talk about property destruction and looting and not what caused the civil disobedience in the first place. As if it no longer matters, that the cause is completely lost, and it's all rendered moot because people started fires and broke windows.

True, but at least there's proof of officers starting shit. Black people or allies can use that to prove that it's the cops that are the problem.

Tbh it's quite horrifying to open twitter in the morning (first mistake) and mostly see videos of violence. Police on Protesters. Rioters on police. Lots of curb-stomping. It's that moment where it's just a fucking mess that will only bring pain and destruction. Legitimate protests being hijacked by people who just want to cause pain, Police being undertrained/trained to escalate while being scared for their life. The net result is an increase in pain and suffering.

Honestly, I don't think it's police being undertrained, at all. Most of them seem more than happy or comfortable to get violent and attack protesters when the protesters aren't even doing anything. In some areas though, there are police who are leaving the protesters alone or even joining them, which has kept the protests peaceful. "Rioters" on police is the consequence of police being more than happy to attack protesters.

Being violent and abusing their power despite knowing they'll be caught on camera.

I think I have mixed opinions on the looting.
-like, I feel like it and the fires are the only way for people to get attention and make their points, especially the ones doing it to companies with $$$ BLNS of assets (Hilton Hotel's with windows broken, etc, barely a drop in the bucket with their insane rates, Wells Fargo, well they got a bailout from us anyway and they got dined for discriminatory tactics to ruin the economy, TARGET(?) well they were building new stores anyway, and threatened to take Hazard Pay from employees away), but then also its the only thing its been getting the gov'ts attention considering silence only gets a politician to make a *tweet* and thats it, town halls/task forces lead to slow, no, little action. imo.

-on the other hand Im sad for the family own businesses etc, but then I'm like, from the ones I've seen. if you A) boarded your shop you were spared, B), if you stayed at your store, people didn't loot them since the people don't attack no-cops (Im of the opinion, the store owners should have stayed at their stores and set up tables for water, etc)

-also, small business owners should be protesting too, not like the gov't treats them that well

-and then why do people loot: with so many people being in debt (medical debt or otherwise) living paycheck-to-paycheck - of course people would want to get a free handout of clothes, jewelry, videogames, books, like the elites have

-cops are also breaking the law, if they can, then it should be fine for looters too, these are unoccupied businesses and I haven't seen anyone being attacked, or homes *invaded* etc.

Also looked at the people running for office/primary here,
-none of the republicans have a single statement on anything this whole week, no diversity in their ads (some even want more police spending and expanded gun measures)
-dems at least gave a tweet, but still, nothing beyond that.
-mayor and gov basically said nothing beyond one of those generic statements

-I hope we increase the fire fighters budget...though I guess Senate and Pres won't actually want to give states infrastructure money. Actually they should have protested too.

Yet another dumbfuck that inserts themselves into situations for no real reason. Yet tons of people immediately jump to him being a business owner fighting for his life. Meanwhile he ran at people with a machete because... he was afraid he wouldn't be able to have a drink at a bar? This is the same energy as the people storming capital buildings with loaded weapons and yelling in cops faces only some weeks ago because they couldn't get a hair cut. How many of those folks lost an eye to a rubber riot round? How many of them were pepper sprayed? Tear gassed? Arrested? Yeah, I didn't think so.

i feel like thats the part that makes me mad, especially as a black person, because, if that was me or my friends we would have probably been tackled and such, yet those people bearing guns and yelling, got what, front page pictures, a reprimand and news coverage, and cheers from the media?!...then now people standing up for something that matters and police show up in full riot gear, camo, like we're in some warzone, and attack and provoke with no discretion. How people defend this is maddening especially even if someone disagrees with BLM, seeing them attack people of all walks of life, children, AND the media and gov't officials with bullets and tear gas and spray should make anyone mad at the state of the country we're in.

-on looting- if these were truly experienced people on a mission for this stuff, wouldn't many cars have been stolen as well, ive seen no *dealerships* looted

I mean, I don't like Antifa either but really? This is what he decides to do? Problem with Democrats and Republicans is that their making this an ideological battle. "Oh you see the other side, they're the reason this is happening." Candace Owens (as idiotic as she is, made a comment about abortion). Like now is not the time.

The country is in economic and political turmoil and people can't put aside the name of their party and work together. Wouldn't be surprised if an actual civil war breaks out but that is too much.

Question for those who previously supported gun bans.

Do you still believe gun bans are sound policy?

You wanna know how they defend it? Most of the people guilty are constitutionals. They'll interpret that document in whatever waythey have to in order to defend their beliefs whether it's appropriate or not.

That's because Antifa use the same flag as Anarcho-Communism and the mainstream media haven given them their own look. Also, they are extreme left-wingers so it's easy for Conservatives and those affiliated with the right to turn them into an organization.

Will it work? Absolutely not. This will only empower them more.

Trump is about blaming others and using them as scapegoats. Hillary, Obama, Democrats, etc. It's for his supporters and image. antifas could be peaceful, and the far right extremely violent, and Trump would still try to label antifas as terrorist organization just because of his supporters being anti-antifas.

Who supported gun bans here?

Majority, if not all, of the protesters did not use guns. If they did though, no doubt 2nd Amendment weirdos would actually oppose that. Bringing this up makes no sense as most states would allow guns. Even in states with Stand Your Ground laws, this would only invite the cops to arrest more Black people, if not get even more violent.

watching MSNBC showing people looting "footaction" and other stores in Santa Monica, like...why are the police focusing on agitating peaceful groups instead of *protecting assets*

Is this a rhetorical question?
