Well, being a bit pedantic here but it's a lot easier to bust a window and take stuff compared to opening up a car lot and hotwiring a car (many new cars can't even be started that way anymore either, since you need a chip).

I mean, I don't like Antifa either but really? This is what he decides to do? Problem with Democrats and Republicans is that their making this an ideological battle. "Oh you see the other side, they're the reason this is happening." Candace Owens (as idiotic as she is, made a comment about abortion). Like now is not the time.

Question for those who previously supported gun bans.

Do you still believe gun bans are sound policy?

Bans on certain weapons seem reasonable to me. The bigger issue is having a national database so every legally own firearm has to be registered.

I'm not someone who scoffs at the 2nd amendment, but I think many have taken it too far.

Wow this dude on MSNBC being randomly interviewed had my thoughts exactly. (about the police could have easily been at these places to stop looting versus with the peaceful protesters)

My city went the most extreme today, before curfew even started they launched the tear gas and bullets, then immediately arrested dozens of people. National Guard and cops standing guard a every monument, corner, and state building. Watched them beat already restrained people with batons, excessive.

I hope no one votes for the chief of police and useless mayor.

For those who know american history. They might remember a time around 2016 when antifa assaulted innocents in berkeley california while the police stood by and did nothing. The mayor of berkeley posted in support of antifa assaulting innocents on twitter before later deleting his tweet.

This pattern would be repeated from 2016 to the present numerous times. Culminating in the most serious case here in 2020 where democrat mayors stood by while antifa pillaged and burned businesses and property, predominantly owned by minority demographics.

Seems like a narrative that people want to use to go "theres no way my great city of the best citizens in the usa has problems, its just outside extremists invading my city" (BTW, dont most of these people in big cities know people come to their city to work but live elsewhere? also just cause someone has an out of state tag, doesnt mean that A) they havent been living in your town already

I just wish they'd be honest or just keep it simple. "Theres a few locals who are taking advantage of our concentrated police presence.

The cops would have likely made things even worse though, or let the random white people loot while keeping an eye on the Black protesters.

Honestly, I don't think it's police being undertrained, at all. Most of them seem more than happy or comfortable to get violent and attack protesters when the protesters aren't even doing anything. In some areas though, there are police who are leaving the protesters alone or even joining them, which has kept the protests peaceful. "Rioters" on police is the consequence of police being more than happy to attack protesters.

I think you misunderstand the word training. I don't mean physical or combat training. I'm talking about de-escalation, negotiation, and whatever else you want to call it. Seeing some police pretty much randomly attack peaceful protesters seems so bizarre since it just means that, that officer or actually other officers will more likely be attacked or Molotov'ed. Of course, we also have the police officers that joined the protests and kept things peaceful but the police's duty is still to intervene in riots and protect citizens and property. I can certainly imagine that the ACAB rethoric has even "the good ones" scared shitless and might drive them to over-reaction and furthering the violence.

I honestly think both sides try to go the easy route: "It's just ANTIFA and there is no legitimate outrage" or "it's a false flag operation and all the agitators are police". Both lead to a lack of discussion about the underlying problems within the police force, within a generation of young people with an anarchistic desire for destruction, within a community that feels helpless and ignored with no other way to make themselves heard. So many tough questions to be asked with even harder answers to be found but instead, it's once again all about the Orange Man.
