Democrats in minneapolis and new york now want to defund police.

How will they blame this on Trump, I wonder.

What? It's always Trump and the Republicans trying to blame everything on Democrats.

Trump has consistently been pro military and pro police.

While democrats and antifa looked like this:

You try to comment.

But its apparent you don't know much, if anything, about the current state of affairs in the USA.

Is that supposed to be a witty comeback? Maybe It would be a lot better if cops weren't killing innocents?

Every little thing that happens wrong in the US is apparently because of the democrats. It was Republicans who screwed around during Covid and the economy collapsing.

"Protesters" lit a church historical significant to the US presidents only hours prior and, without a proper and particularly difficult investigation, it's very difficult to tell who in a large group is peaceful and who's just pretending to be for the moment. While there's debate to be had about the particular actions taken, taking no action would look incredibly weak which is particularly bad for a leader or authority. An analogy, when a teacher gets hit in the back of the head while they're facing the board and nobody confesses or gets the finger pointed at them, then the teacher can either do nothing in which case worse will surely come, guess who did it (a risk), investigate it later and hope more incidents don't follow before blame can be laid, or they can simply punish the whole class for either being guilty or being complacent with the act. The nuance is how an authority chooses to handle blatant disrespect and disregard for their authority.
What was the action taken though? He gassed citizens to film a campaign ad...

Disrespect for someone's authority is not illegal. I really wish more people would try to use nuance and uncouple blatant criminal acts and people practicing their first amendment rights. Trump's actions on that day were nothing more than a bully move intended to fire up the portion of this country that doesn't give a shit about George Floyd or racial injustice.

Minneapolis only begun the process, it will be interesting to see how a major city rebuilds their police force. With trust in it at a probably irreparable low, it is really the only thing they can do to salvage it.

His response was to give the short speech, clear the area, and to make his presence known at the attack building. If you want to question the ethics of that, then go for it. I think his actions there are more than a little questionable.

Well, I mean, that was my point. You brought up nuance, but I'm not sure what we're talking about now. :XD

I just think you can be angry about a church being damaged without doing what he did. Not that I for one second think he gives a shit about that church or the Bible. Not for nothing, but the fire was reported to have started in the basement, but they still have no idea how or why it happened.

I wonder how Trump will take credit if/when this works, and the Black community does much better because they're getting funds that would have been wasted in the police department. I think LA already defunded $150 million, which isn't much, but it's a good start.

It's not hard to blame Trump when most of the problems are his fault, though.

Trump has consistently been pro military and pro police.

That looks like a stock photo or photoshopped photo from a far-right website. Even if they did, antifas are not happy with how cops kill Black people and abuse people for no reason, but cops don't give a shit, they'll keep doing that for some reason. Trump is also not pro-military, even if he is pro-police.

The last sentence is very ironic as you demonstrated that you're the one who knows nothing about the current state of affairs, other than what Fox News or InfoWars tells you. Before you bring up news like CNN, they're actually showing news in favor of cops rather than the actual truth, which is that the cops are violent and making things worse.

There's also something very fucked up about people supporting police brutality, on top of cops being violent when they could just as easily end this by not killing Black people or beating them up. But then again, I'm sure you know nothing about this.

NO wonder the president has hid himself in the white house this weekend, poll numbers are gross for him.

Wish people and the media would clarify what they mean when they say

*Remove the Police
*Dismantle the Police
*Reform the Police
*DeFund the Police
*Disband the Police

Especially when people interchangeably use them. Dismantle the police gives me the most issues.

I feel like the one most people want is *Optimize Police Duties*
-A police organization that ONLY sends armed gov't workers to situations where they are met with armed resistance, while folks trained in medical emergencies are sent for medical emergencies (ie no more cops delivering babies), or have social mental health workers dealing with suicide and hostage crises and situations (instead of cops)-

No, most people want to defund the police because they get too much money, when that money could be used to help the communities.

There's an issue when it's far too easy to defund an entire fucking school instead of corrupt police department. Oh and by the way, when that does happen to a school, where do you think some of that spare money goes to? It definitely doesn't go right back into education in most places.

Bad news for Trump. Even hardened party loyalists don't want you.
That's a very interesting list..... Most of them, i can see, the only doubt i have is Paul Ryan. He is in many ways the antithesis of Trump, but also is not vocally against him.... He may help going against Trump but i doubt he'll make a public announcement about it like the others have...

While it may hard to sympathesize with the police, isn't it important to consider how hard of a job this is? They have their lives on the line everytime they are out, and are trained to take actions before resolution... Also, its true most of the cops are great people and there are a few "bad apples" but its the kind of job you cannot afford screwups. I think reform is the only legitimate thing that can be implemented here. The good thing that's happening is a lot of cops have started to break the "we are united, we have your back" wall and coming out condemning the actions of the cops and also showing support to the revolt. That's the first step of the reform, acknowledging the problem. Hopefully things go better....

I really like your post, media must clarify these things cos right now, it just seems like a tweet, its not a well-thought or articulated post and probably not intended to be either, but for practical reasons, you cannot do anything mentioned above, except reform...

I also think its important to stop blaming Trump for everything and start holding your local authorities responsible. The people everyone voted and elected at their local government levels, ask them to step up and answer for the failures and perhaps even have them join the movement. This movement has to be from ground up, blaming only the president wont change things.

I also brought it up because by using the wrong wording gives people the wrong/confusing impressions (can already see campaign videos saying Candidate X wants to get rid of all police, imagine looting on the streets and murder in the sheets with crime rampant everywhere-> just watch it happen)

Police wouldnt be in this situation if they'd done that in the beginning, but it seemed police culture is, *dont call out your coworkers, or you will get punished/retaliated against*, probably need protections for that.

THe Minneapolis case, I kind of feel bad for the cops that weren't kneeling, as some were like only on their fourth day of training or something...

I dont think defunding will help, and i dont think it will ever happen, no matter who is in the government.

Yea, i think the higher ups should encourage cops and even protect them when they speak out against their own. Once that happens, things will be in the right direction.

It works both ways. Repbulican logic: Oh the economy is booming: Trump and Jesus are great. Something goes wrong: Fucking Marx and those communists ruining everything.

Hypocrisy is real.

Yea, but i am not talking about this as a partisan issue, nor am i saying Trump is at fault... clearly his reactions to the issue are at the absolute worst...
I am talking about bringing the change from ground up, by holding locally elected representatives accountable as well, instead of blaming the entire system or the one sitting at the top...
They work for us too, and are accountable to these actions as well... So shouldn't the protests be in their offices or their homes as well? Police brutality is prevalent in both Democratic and Republican states.

Like Venezuela, Libya? You need the police in every society...

It's happening, some departments' fundings reduced, like in LA. Defunding might not help too much, but the money will at least be of more use elsewhere, like supporting schools.

I'm of the opinion that we won't see shit about cops behaving until we start holding them accountable.

The past week or two has shown that civil disobedience is probably more effective at getting shit done than voting has, at least when it comes to this specific issue. Most police departments aren't run by elected officials, unless it's a sheriff's department.
