It's happening, some departments' fundings reduced, like in LA. Defunding might not help too much, but the money will at least be of more use elsewhere, like supporting schools.
I'm of the opinion that we won't see shit about cops behaving until we start holding them accountable.
Yes, cops have to be accountable no matter what... But defunding won't help... but i am no expert at it or dont understand enough to even claim why i am right... so let me research more before i speak more..
The past week or two has shown that civil disobedience is probably more effective at getting shit done than voting has, at least when it comes to this specific issue. Most police departments aren't run by elected officials, unless it's a sheriff's department.
But elected officials can make demands on the police.. So whoever is elected must be held responsible for the actions of the police as well..
Civil disobedience isn't gonna get shit done everytime.. You cant simply expect people to unite for every issue... this one was out of proportions and has been happening too long... elections will happen periodically and that must be exercised as well..
Yeah, I know what sarcasm is, but you've made similar remarks several times before. Try to limit the shitposting/spam in this thread, it's not the place for it.

Not enough of them are willing to do that though. Maybe that will change, but not sure why anyone would feel overly optimistic about it.
If the only way to effect change is protesting, and positives do come from this entire ordeal, then people will continue to do it whenever necessary.

Isn't this the same faux-egghead that made an entire career out of bitching and moaning about liberal safe spaces?

When you can break the law and destroy property in broad daylight without any fear of consequences, why would any sane person think you're capable of doing your job in a decent and just way?
And before anyone says "well, they're just following orders"... well yeah, that's the problem.
Stuff like that is why I said, rioters and looters were just like, "well if the police can break the law and destroy things with no consequence, then we can too"

How would it not? Why do they need $6 billion or so? If schools and other critical fields can be defunded, then so can the police departments. Hell, NYC spent billions more on having cops patrol subways for fare-skippers when they could have used that money to improve the subway system or reduce cost of fares so fewer people would jump over barricades.

I'm not sure if that's their philosophical approach to doing it, but when many police departments seem to have some sort of departmental directive that they can't do their jobs effectively unless they spit on the law themselves, then breaking/stealing/burning stuff isn't a surprising progression.
Whats wrong with him. lol, he couldn't have just utter a single, "Thoughts and prayers for his recovery through this trying time" tweet instead of present this bogus conspiracy theory?!
yea, protests work and perhaps the best time ever is now... most people aren't working due to lockdown anyways, they can go to protests... in a normal economy, it wouldn't have lasted as long.
You can protest, but make sure to hold local representatives accountable too....

The issue of defunding is connected to police brutality... I dont think police funding is the problem to it... you are punishing the system rather than addressing the issue, that is the problem of defunding.. For me to be convinced defunding is efficient, you have to justify how it'll impact the police without impacting the security they offer while reducing brutality. Cos we all need police no matter what..but like i said, i could be wrong as i know little about how the police funds work...
Ben Shapiro is highly cringe yet an excellent debater. I think the left needs a Ben Shapiro who can use facts against the right and be aggressive like him.... Of course, Ben gets away cos he's debating college kids who aren't experts nor articulate at the same level...
Thats one democrat but thats the problem. Democrats being the party for everyone cannot align on the same causes... so many democrats voted against impeachment....

Why would he, when he can bullshit his way into getting more or stronger support from the police force, racists, and "Blue Lives Matter" dickheads? You are aware that he's "popular" because he says dumb and racist shit that people approve of?
There is or was a Democrat who promised to turn Republican if the Dems went through with the impeachment process. Dunno if that's the same one that supported Kavanaugh as well. At least unlike REpublicans, they will pretend to be your friends and try to prove that.

The issue of fundings is also a social thing because... why pump billions of dollars into police departments while taking away funding for other stuff like schools? Taking away lot of that can put the funding back into more important stuff.
The system is the problem though. Cops aren't held accountable for their behavior, and when people started protesting for that, you saw how violent they got in response. How is funding them helpful? Why do they need billions of dollars and state of the art weapons? The cops can still do their jobs either way.
That's debatable as there are good arguments as to why we don't need the police and how they can be replaced. And again, police don't do much to help anyway and tend to do more harm than good. Look at how rape victims are treated, and how cops can rape in 35 states and get away with it just by saying it was consensual. The backlog of rape kits is also pretty high. And that's not counting how Black people are treated, even.

He is not a good debater. I've seen his tweets, this dude is just another clueless doofus who sometimes gets it right. If the left were in any way aggressive like Benji, the right would complain and whine about how mean and divisive they are.
The people at the top of these organizations seem to always
-You dont have the backstory behind what you're seeing
-The person threw [small object] on us so we retaliated in kind
-We're just following the Commission's orders!
-LAW & ORDER
Also, I dont know why media keeps interviewing them for their opinions about *defunding/dismantling police*. They all end up saying
-We're underfunded and understaffed. We need more money to better do our jobs-
-Their will be vigilantism and chaos
aking away lot of that can put the funding back into more important stuff.

The defunding they are talking about isn't in billions, its about 150$ million in some counties... If that amount can go back to marginalized communities, it can be a great thing.
But where will the cuts apply? I think it'll apply to the most recent programs given to the cops, like body cameras and stuff... They've failed to work anyways, but it will remove further accountability..
At the end of the day, the defunding has to be justified. Just the fact that the money can be useful for others isn't enough reason.. what and where the cuts have an effect is important...

He's a good debater as long as he's debating school and university crowds.
I dont think he's clueless, he basically cuts down every argument away from an emotional perspective leaving the left any room for a valid point. But through it, he sticks to his core arguments.... Even his podcast with Joe Rogan highlighted some key points but when asked about why you don't support gay marriage, he flustered a bit and hid behind "religious reasons"... which is an emotional argument from his point... Put him against a smart and articulate person who can speak factually and he fails in comparison... I've seen a british journalist who makes him lose his marbles...
Twitter is a place only fit for opinions and can seldom work as a constructive platform for a debate... Who is Benji?

I'm saying that they don't need billions of dollars the way schools would.
I dunno, they can reduce payrolls and etc? Apparently lot of cops are making extra money in illegal or horrible ways, so I'm sure this won't be a huge blow to them.
As far as I understand the defunding the police stuff does not refer to actually taking money away from police departments. Rather than that, it refers to taking functions away from the police, retrain them, and in some cases start police departments from scratch. Dunno why they refer to this as "defunding" though. It's like if they intentionally picked a name for this that makes no sense without context and can be easily used by political enemies. Why not just scream something like "reform the police"? reminds me of how sanders stupidly shots himself in the leg for no reason by calling himself a socialist...
He has used either at different times. And even then, democratic socialists is a bad enough label as is it. His policies generally are closer to social democracy anyways, at least the more popular ones.
