Nebulous "economic growth" really can say only so much, regardless of who people want to credit for it
That somehow makes less than zero sense somehow. It's true that businesses in the US have been squeezing workers over the past several decades but this is all in the interest of profits AND keeping cost down. There's no scenario where a business would forego it's profit. The world still hasn't changed much. Trump was the one who started the downfall by ignoring covid until he couldn't, and there's a good chance that businesses are purposely holding workers hostages by increasing costs so they accept lower wages and fewer benefits.

I mean, my posts acknowledge a difference in definition between sex and gender (though this can be muddled up by context).I mean you just typed:
When you said that sex and gender are the same thing for these people, I thought you were saying that they believe that sex and gender are the same thing. Which is what you previously said you believed.
I know that the majority of people on the planet are cisgender, but I'm not concerned with their gender expression, I'm concerned with whether or not they believe that sex and gender are the same thing and how they got to that conclusion.
Cuz it ain't scientific consensus.

Okay...kkck said:I mean, my posts acknowledge a difference in definition between sex and gender (though this can be muddled up by context).
Except it's becoming a part of our lives. Whether or not you acknowledge a difference between sex and gender will have an affect on how you treat trans people. You said you lean closer to TERF sentiments. That road leads down to transmedicalist/truescum/transphobic type arguments. Also, that's a weird concern.. Imagine a cisgender person for no reason whatsoever going "huh, I wonder if my biology and my gender expression are actually different things". Cisgender folk don't have to concerns themselves over that, it's simply not a part of their lives. this is obviously something non cisgender folk would have to worry with to begin with. Even if you define sex and gender as different things, from a practical point of view for the vast majority of people there isn't a discrepancy and they end up amounting to the same thing. Basically, a meaningless distinction. Which is not to say that there isn't a portion of the population for whom the distinction isn't meaningless. For all your concern the answer is pretty obvious... the distinction has zero bearing in their lives at all, it does nothing, it changes nothing.
Bezos buying the Washington Post was bad, but somehow this is good. I guess if you shitpost enough people will ignore all of the bad and felate you publicly as if you're some sort of "our guy" free speech warrior.
Sure, but that's kind of a tangent from my point. I do not support discrimination or cruelty towards trans folk. My point is that to 99.5% of the population the difference between sex and gender does not personally affect them in any way. The vast majority of the population cannot fathom what a disparity between their sex and gender would even begin to feel like. There's zero context, there's no way for them to experience this. The most they can do is hear this from others or read about it.Okay...

As for whether the distinction is meaningless... https://www.coe.int/en/web/gender-matters/sex-and-gender#:~:text=Sex refers to “the different, groups of women and men.
Sex refers to “the different biological and physiological characteristics of males and females, such as reproductive organs, chromosomes, hormones, etc.” Gender refers to "the socially constructed characteristics of women and men – such as norms, roles and relationships of and between groups of women and men.
Do you honestly, HONESTLY think there is no difference between biological and physical characteristics, and socially constructed characteristics?
Honestly?
I meant prices of their goods/services up, but also they might be forced to deal with increased costs but will likely accept it if it means more profits down the line. It's like investing some amounts of money in hopes of getting a bigger return - and if they get what they want then it'll be great for businesses again like it was over a century ago. Businesses would temporarily forego profits if it meant saving money against workers in the long run.hat somehow makes less than zero sense somehow. You don't have to empathize in the sense that you know what they're going through. But you can empathize with the idea that they're hurting. I don't understand what it feels like to be homosexual, but I empathize with the idea of being discriminated against for being different. The need to be welcoming and compassionate to your fellow human beings should be sufficient enough reasons to . And if that's not sufficient, the science should be sufficient since it allows you to use logic to make your decision.Sure, but that's kind of a tangent from my point. The way it's been explained to me is that trans people don't choose their gender either. They just acknowledge the disconnect that they've always felt with their given gender identity. And what keeps them from acknowledging in the first place it is the need to fit in with societal norms.I do think there is a difference between biological and socially constructed characteristics. You only have to look at stuff male/females did 500 years ago in a society and don't do now to prove it. That said, I don't generally agree with the framing this gets. As in, gender being a construct doesn't mean that it's all subjective and artificial and 100% malleable. None of us chooses their gender. Welp, at least 99.98% or so of us don't. That's why the few experiments where they have raised kids not according to their biological sex have gone so horribly wrong it's straight up criminal.
Billionaires are more often than not worshipped. Especially if you're someone like Musk who is public-facing and a bit eccentric like many chronically-online people. It helps if you champion smart causes, like EVs, alternative energy, or space exploration. These are good things, and even better if they're subsidized by the government. Many believe Trump will be reinstated by twitter, with Elon Musk's 9% purchase of stock.
But then twitter released a statement saying it won't happen.
I feel like public opinion is shifting to favor Elon Musk more now, in contrast to the past.

Cause idiots think he's friggin' Tony Stark.Public opinion seems to be already in Elon's favor.

I think it's important to acknowledge and who and what Musk is and what he isn't. Acting like he's Tony Stark or Nikola Tesla is "cool" for PR purposes I guess but it obfuscates the grit of what billionaires are and why they're billionaires.

Tony Stark is a fictional character, and Nikola Tesla died penniless

In today's environment someone doing such a thing would be labeled a moron and a pariah.... and yet Tesla is romanticized by the exact same kinds of people that he would have never associated with.Nikola Tesla died penniless because those that owned capital abandoned him since he wanted to give electricity away for free.
