I think what musk, or his "friend, means here is that he wants to enlarge human capacity to play god while environmentalists want to limit human capacity of destruction.
The heck does this even mean lol? Is it me or does elon sound more like a supervillain every day?
No, because it is not happening.

Yeah, I had more or less the same impression here. But that is still at least some variety of lex luthor like reasoning. What I also don't understand is why a presumably intelligent person would think that getting to and terraforming one planet, regardless of its condition, is preferable to trying to prologue the shelf life of this one. Even if you find a planet that is basically a clone of earth getting humanity there and adapting it to an otherwise 100% alien environment seems like the sort of thing that require technology so advanced that we lack the foundation of the foundation of the foundation..... of the foundation of the technology required for this. I don't object to the idea of space travel and eventually finding a future out there but it'll already be a miracle if within our lifetime we manage to send astronauts to mars, bring them back from mars alive and have them live full cancer free lives.I think what musk, or his "friend, means here is that he wants to enlarge human capacity to play god while environmentalists want to limit human capacity of destruction.
In their mind, pushing for a world in which humanity has 10 backup planets they can terraform is a much better idea than limiting growth and innovation to preserve the one earth we have right now. In their mind, environmentalists destroy potential by trying to induce regulations people like musk find limiting.
As far as i know, Musk thinks that humanity is already over the edge anyway when it comes to climate change. Their plans to limit it are thus doomed to fail because we are going to live in a 2 or 3 degree reality. Thus it would be better to embrace that reality and push for other planets or technology that can save us. He sees environmentalists standing in the way of such ambitions.
True, but quite a substantial amount of people believes that the only solution to climate change is finding technology that sucks co2 out of the air. That is not as far away as space travel and these people argue in similar ways, namely that people should not focus on solar energy but just create easy technological fixes.Yeah, I had more or less the same impression here. Here's the really fucking crazy thing though..... we can do bothI think what musk, or his "friend, means here is that he wants to enlarge human capacity to play god while environmentalists want to limit human capacity of destruction.

Or... a problem just needs to be created for them to "fix"I think they are wrong, but it is not quite as crazy as moving to mars. Its the entrepeneur type (or wannabe) that believes it, you just need to create a product to fix a problem.
Of course that is part of it. Tho i do think there is a deeper psychological reason for the types like musk (and necessarily just the successful ones) to want to believe in unlimited power rather than solving problems via limitations. Here's the really fucking crazy thing though..... we can do both
The reason why Musk thinks this is purely a zerosum situation is because he'd rather advocate for the option that would make him a trillionaire quicker. You know, by living off the teat of government subsidies while simultaneously complaining about paying any taxes at all? while buying the most popular communication platform online to take control of messaging while covering that up as some sort of free-speech crusade? Thank the heavens for him though, we'd be lost without his influence.

And that's just fine because my favorite technocrat watches anime and posts memes onlineSo naturally, they'd feel inclined to think that some few powerful men could rather tackle the problem by great invention and controlling the masses.

But also, the way the cops responded to Black people asking not to be killed or face police brutality.... That's one of the reasons why I see a lot of people actually say cops need to be abolished, and that reform isn't enough. It's hard to disagree when cops are constantly proving their corruption and ineptitude, from punishing whistleblowers to letting white teens with guns be allowed in unsafe areas or schools.
Just posting this because I hate it when people keep claiming black people, and the left in general, hate the police. We understand there's a need for police. We just want better police.
The second part about homeless sweeps is sad though.

mostly the right
This is how a lot of ppl sound.
Trying to fool everyone.

Or when they say kids should go to churches instead of drag shows despite the fact that kids get molested by priests and whatnot.
