The big danger is a legal coup.

The supreme court could decide soon that states can decide themselves who gets their votes for countrywide elections.
As in, a red state can decide the election was fraudulent in some way if a democrat wins and just send their own. By that, republicans would never lose any election again, as obviously red states are also free to ensure by voter suppression that no democrat can win there.

Does anyone know what is really happening here.

“The honest message … is that not all farmers can continue their business,” and those who do will likely have to farm differently, the government said in a statement this month as it unveiled emission reduction targets.

Livestock produce ammonia in their urine and feces. The government in the past has called on farmers to use feed for their animals that contains less protein as a way of reducing ammonia emissions. The problem is compounded in the Netherlands, which is known for its intensive farming practices, with large numbers of livestock kept on small areas of land.

It is not only farmers being targeted. In the past, the government also has cut the national maximum speed limit on highways from 130 kilometers per hour (80 miles per hour) to 100 kmh during the day as a way of reducing nitrogen oxide created by vehicle engines.

The government has been forced to take action after a series of court rulings that blocked infrastructure and construction projects because of fears they would cause emissions that breach environmental rules. It is giving provincial authorities a year to work out ways to meet the emission reduction targets
Explained: Why Dutch farmers are protesting over emissions (indianexpress.com)

BASED. I've no problem with this.

Not the protesting I mean, the mandated reduction of emissions. Doesn't seem to be that much info on why the farmers are so pissed about it, but I'm sure it's got something to do with the loss of profit from limiting the amount and kind of farming they can do thanks to emission standards. These are growing pains but we gotta start making changes, and I praise the initiative.

Not gonna let what's happening in the Netherlands distract from shitting on Republicans and the SCOTUS for Roe v. Wade though.

Don't really see what that has to do with American politics anyway. Conservatives love to point at conflict against governments in Europe by any group that can't be ostensibly labeled as leftist as some sort of unique and significant failure of the government. Saw a ton of that shit during pandemic lockdowns and/or restrictions. Civil disobedience is only worth talking about in a positive way when it's that kind of situation, I guess.

In light of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and threaten and remove access to abortions, creators from all across itch.io have contributed projects to this solidarity bundle.

100% of the proceeds from this bundle will go to the National Network for Abortion Fund's Collective Power Fund, which moves money directly to abortion funds across 20+ U.S. states, with a particular focus on the South and Midwest (where it is often most difficult to get access to abortions). NNAF's partnerships with these abortion funds provide direct resources and funds to many of the people most impacted by Roe v. Wade, towards immediate action.
This bundle is available for a minimum of $10 USD, but if you have the means we encourage you to donate more. Reproductive justice is an issue that affects us all.

Please note: No Steam (or other external keys) will be given for bundle purchases. Only direct downloads will be available on the itch.io page.

If you are looking for more ways to support the fight for reproductive rights, start here: https://donations4abortion.com/

I dunno what the rules are for posting advertisements on the forum like this are, but this is worth a shot.

Easy purchase, any gamer should be willing to fund abortions. They already do it every time they pre-order the latest EA or Ubisoft game.

They already dominate state legislatures via gerrymandering and voter suppression, so not sure how much it'd change things.

I'm obviously not saying that people who hold office can't be born in another country, but I think it's kind of bizarre how running for President (or VP) requires you be a natural-born citizen in order to "protect from foreign influence", but someone like a US Senator can hold dual citizenship while in office.

It would change a lot. Gerrymandering and voter supression only goes so far.
If the supreme court takes this decision, that means voting is downright irrelevant and even if 80% of voters vote democratic, they can just send someone else.

"Fortunately, even if the court embraces the revanchist ISLT, that would not permit state legislatures to throw out votes already cast to appoint presidential electors of their choosing. The federal Constitution prohibits states from disregarding votes already cast, no matter what the court might say in Harper. "

The article has that as a caveat though, so not sure they're saying it could go that far.

Don't really see what that has to do with American politics anyway.

These types of events trickle upwards.

From smaller nations.

To bigger ones.

Except... it's a result of environmental policy in The Netherlands. US government subsidies are responsible for something like 20% of all farming income in the country. They're often literally paid not to grow anything. This isn't something that's just going to spontaneously happen because they saw clips on twitter.

Organized farmer protests have been a thing in the netherlands and france for many years.

Just as food riots have been a thing in africa for many years.

If food shortages hit, we could see a trickle upwards effect.

As conditions behind these movements intensify.

Its good to get a handle on negative trends before they materialize.

And what is the negative trend exactly?

(Bloomberg) -- Top German industries could face collapse because of cuts in the supplies of Russian natural gas, the country’s top union official warned before crisis talks with Chancellor Olaf Scholz starting Monday.

.

Abortion in the Netherlands was fully legalized on November 1, 1984, allowing abortions to be done on-demand up to the 24th week of the pregnancy.[1] Abortion for "serious medical reasons" can be performed after 24 weeks.[2] There is a mandatory five-day waiting period for abortions done after your menstrual period is 17 days overdue.[3] However, on June 21, 2022, Dutch parliamentarians approved a law to scrap the mandatory five-day reflection period before undergoing an abortion, saying women, with a joint consultation with the doctor, should be able to determine the time before making a decision. The law is set to come into effect in January of 2023. [4] [5]

Since we're being distracted from American Politics and the destruction of women's rights thanks to some goofy shit happening in the Netherlands, I decided to link the two together by comparing abortion rights in the Netherlands to the ones in the US.
