Who is saying those things to people in the real world though? There are of course more productive ways to have these kinds of conversations but as a white person I've never experienced something that I would perceive as a slight because of my race. Maybe I'm a naive idiot, but that's simply not something I've experienced among people I'd consider like-minded. I'd say I've received far more chastisement from those who are most likely politically right.

Women, minorities, social media, and higher education systems. You go to college, you come out further left. As for you, I can't argue against your anecdotal experience, but if I'm gonna honor your anecdotes I've gotta do the same for the millions of young white men with differing experiences. And they're looking for acceptance from a group that is appealing to them. Culturally, there are things that are rightwing coded, and these groups aren't angry hateful people by nature, so when a young man finds himself a member of these groups: he's fasttracked down the Rightwing pipe line.

I am not arguing for catapulting tens of millions of immigrants into cliffs. I am arguing for a crackdown on illegal immigrants AND a system to allow for legal immigration to cover those jobs. On the wage angle I will also add that illegal immigrants definitely push down wages in the country and that's not necessarily a good thing for the country.

Mostly the amnesty you mention.

I think the main issue you highlight is that the 'right wing' have managed to fool people into thinking these things inherently belong to their 'side'

There are plenty of people with apparently left-wing leanings that do edgy humour - as are there many left-wing people who own guns or work out [far too much]

I bet there are also far more people than you'd like to think who hold traditional 'left-wing' views and ideals who also have more historical views on the roles of certain genders in the home/at work

To not beat a dead horse here, but this is the issue with labelling things under the leaky umbrellas of the left and the right - not only are these terms pretty nebulous and culture/region specific (what's left wing in America might well not be considered so outside of the US), but the divisions are made worse by the fact that both extremes tend to meet in the crazy-zone when you head too far in either direction
