Heartbreaking how America lets Ukraine fall like a hot potato. Republicans are so insanely spineless, all their support was just posturing.

More than spineless, a good chunk of them are straight up pro putin and would support his invasion regardless of the reasons for it. Trump is probably just out to make a buck and his ego is the right amount of fragile for a perceived lack of ass kissing to tank a deal. I guess the next step is trump selling Ukraine to russia for rare minerals. Which a week ago seemed to be what trump was doing but now he has this as an excuse to serve to his cultists.

I wish Trump would stall a lot of these destructive actions and draw them out over 4 years instead of frontloading them all in the first year, so that the shellshock will force people to turn on him at the polls. There's still time for Joe Rogan and the rest to spin all of this to make Trump seem like a necessary evil.

If the Democrats want to win, they have to win with a strategy that could defeat Ronald Reagan, not one that could just defeat Donald Trump.

If Democrats want to win, they need to have better people that aren't going to backstab the left, Muslims, or anyone that aren't happy with the party.

But honestly, even if they don't, it should be an easier path to win because of the ways Trump Admin are fucking everything up

Nah. They need to win the people back. Normal people. The everyman. The working class. The people that touch grass.

One of the key ways to win back the trust of the working class, some gathered there argued, was to “reduce far-left influence and infrastructure” on the party, according to the takeaways document. That included building a more moderate campaign infrastructure and talent pipeline, pushing “back against far-left staffers and groups that exert a disproportionate influence on policy and messaging,” and refusing to participate in “far-left candidate questionnaires” and “forums that create ideological purity tests.”

Takeaways on Why Democrats Have a Cultural Disconnect with the Working Class

1. Overemphasis on Identity Politics Many working-class voters feel Democrats prioritize niche identity-based groups with overbroad, unifying messages, making them feel excluded rather than included.

2. The “Faculty Lounge” Problem Democrats are often viewed as judgmental, out-of-touch, and dismissive of those without elite education or progressive views. This makes the party seem disconnected from everyday people.

3. Failure to Prioritize Economic Concerns While voters struggle with jobs, wages, and inflation, Democrats are seen as more focused on cultural and social issues than on economic progress and opportunity.

4. Weak Messaging & Communication The party’s language is often vague, politically correct, or overly intellectual, making it hard for workingclass voters to connect with Democratic policies.

5. Fear of Dissent Within the Party Democrats are perceived as intolerant of internal debate, where questioning progressive orthodoxy results in backlash rather than open discussion. Candidates and operatives need to feel more comfortable just saying NO to activist groups and unpalatable far-left ideas.

6. Attachment to Unpopular Institutions Democrats are seen as defending elite institutions (academia, media, government bureaucracy) while being critical of institutions working-class people value (churches, small businesses, police).

7. Allowing the Far Left to Define the Party Activist groups and progressive staffers push unpopular cultural positions, making it seem like Democrats are more extreme than they actually are. Operatives and campaigns must remember that activist groups exist to promote their single issue and raise money around it, not to make Democrats electable.

8. Reactionary Rather Than Proactive Democrats often let Republicans set the terms of cultural debates (e.g., crime, immigration) instead of clearly defining their own positions in a way that resonates with voters.

9. Overreliance on Buzzwords & Political Correctness Terms like "pregnant people" and "Latinx" alienate working-class voters who see them as out of touch with real-world terms and vocabulary.

10. Lack of a Positive National Identity Message Democrats focus too much on America’s flaws (racism, sexism, inequality) without acknowledging the country’s progress and potential, making them seem pessimistic and unpatriotic.

Takeaways on Why Democrats Are Not Trusted by the Working Class on the Economy

1. Vilification of Wealth Democrats are seen as hostile to success, indifferent to people’s desire to attain wealth, while reflexively attacking wealthy business leaders instead of promoting economic mobility and aspiration.

2. Disconnected Messaging Democrats focus on broad economic indicators instead of acknowledging real struggles like high prices and stagnant wages, making voters feel dismissed and unheard.

3. No Clear Economic Vision Democrats lack a cohesive, inspiring economic agenda and often present a laundry list of policies rather than a unifying vision.

4. Over-Prioritization of Social Issues Economic policy is often framed through the lens of identity politics rather than broad-based prosperity, making working-class voters feel overlooked.

5. Perceived Government Overreach Voters see Democrats as favoring excessive regulations, inefficient spending, and programs that don’t directly benefit them.

6. Failure to Own Mistakes Democrats defend flawed policies and institutions instead of acknowledging failures and committing to reforms that would improve economic trust.

7. Republicans as the "Aspirational" Party GOP messaging suggests they want voters to be rich, while Democrats are seen as focusing on redistribution rather than wealth creation. Third Way • 3

8. Climate Policy Viewed as Anti-Growth The emphasis on climate change is seen as harming job opportunities and economic growth, especially in working-class communities.

9. The Break Room vs. the Board Room Democratic economic messages often come from elites, celebrities, and politicians rather than workingclass voices that voters can relate to.

10. Failure to Address Economic Anxiety Voters believe Democrats care more about the very poor than the struggling middle class and fail to provide a clear path to economic security. Voters often believe they are wealthier than the people Democrats talk about.

Takeaways on How Democrats Can Reconnect Culturally with the Working Class (This here is the important part)

1. Move Away from Identity Politics • Stop addressing voters as identity blocs and instead focus on shared American values. • Use plain language and avoid jargon or abbreviations that can alienate voters. • Acknowledge that people have multiple identities (e.g., Black and a veteran) rather than reducing them to one label.

2. Emphasize Shared Values and Cultural Alignment • Frame rights as about "freedom and justice," not just identity-based concerns. • Highlight similarities between marginalized groups and mainstream American values. • Embrace patriotism, community, and traditional American imagery (e.g., farms, main streets).

3. Rebalance the Party’s Cultural Messaging • Reject fringe positions that alienate the median voter. • Avoid overly moralistic or condescending messaging; speak plainly and directly. • Allow candidates to express personal faith and values without fear of backlash.

4. Reduce Far-Left Influence and Infrastructure • Build a moderate Democratic infrastructure, including media, talent pipelines, and communications networks. • Push back against far-left staffers and groups that exert a disproportionate influence on policy and messaging. • Ban far-left candidate questionnaires and refuse to participate in forums that create ideological purity tests. Third Way • 4

5. Engage with the Working Class in Their Spaces • Get out of elite circles and into real communities (e.g., tailgates, gun shows, local restaurants, churches). • Own the failures of Democratic governance in large cities and commit to improving local government. • Show up in unfriendly media spaces and engage with voters outside traditional Democratic strongholds.

6. Improve Democratic Communication & Media Strategy • Conduct a comprehensive study on media consumption to better understand how to reach voters. • Develop a stronger, more relatable Democratic media presence (podcasts, social media, sports broadcasting). • Encourage candidates to be bold, engaging, and authentic in their messaging rather than overly polished.

7. Embrace Moderation, Individualism, and Masculinity • Reconnect with values like hard work, rugged individualism, and entrepreneurialism. • Be more accepting of masculinity and male voters who feel alienated from the party. • Shift focus from progressive "mission creep" to core Democratic issues that resonate broadly.

8. Revise Democratic Fundraising Priorities • Move away from the dominance of small-dollar donors whose preferences may not align with the broader electorate. • Give candidates and campaigns more flexibility in how they spend funds without excessive donor constraints.

Takeaways on How Democrats Can Rebuild Economic Trust with Working-Class Voters

1. Acknowledge Struggles & Speak to Real Concerns • Recognize that while the economy may be improving broadly, many families are still struggling. • Avoid dismissing economic anxieties—speak directly to the concerns of working-class voters with tangible solutions. As progressives, we all discussed among our friends and family how expensive things were but politically only wanted to talk about how much better things are getting.

2. Shift Messaging Away from ‘Handouts’ • Many working-class voters reject policies seen as giveaways (e.g., student loan forgiveness, universal basic income). • Frame policies around opportunity, empowerment, and work rather than redistribution. • Small language shifts matter—focus on “better wages” instead of “minimum wage.”

3. Prioritize Simple, Tangible Policies • Advocate for middle-class tax cuts, support public education, and propose spending cuts where needed. • Ensure policies are easy to understand and feel relevant to daily life. Third Way • 5

4. Integrate & Engage with the Business Community • Democrats need to stop demonizing wealth and corporations broadly. • Engage with small businesses, business podcasts, podcasts like “Earn Your Leisure” that reach the aspiring class, and entrepreneurs to discuss economic policies.

5. Be Pro-Aspiration & Pro-Capitalism in a Smart Way • Recognize that working-class voters value upward mobility and economic success. • Have a prosperity gospel aimed at the working class. • Call out corporate abuses individually instead of attacking “corporations” as a whole.

6. Reform Government & Address Inefficiencies • Take government complaints seriously and commit to improving its efficiency. • Push for systemic reforms rather than just defending the status quo.

7. Center Every Conversation on the Economy • Lead with economic messaging in speeches, ads, and policy proposals. • Avoid leading with cultural issues—focus on jobs, wages, and cost-of-living concerns.

8. Engage Rural & Non-College Voters • Show up in rural communities and places where Democrats are unpopular. • Listen to non-college voters without judgment, making their concerns central to policy conversations.

9. Embrace Populism Thoughtfully • Critique corporate excess and corruption but avoid an anti-capitalist stance. • Be bold in challenging inefficient institutions while maintaining credibility as pragmatic reformers.

10. Showcase Working-Class Voices & Candidates • Recruit candidates who come from working-class backgrounds and have relatable life experiences. • Use messengers that working-class voters trust—business leaders, skilled laborers, and community figures.

Yeah, winning back the working class people won't be easy when quite a few of Dems not only profit from government (Pelosi and stocks for example), but when the majority of them are quiet and/or don't do anything to stop Trump while Crockett and AOC are the vocal ones. Also doesn't help when BIden did not do more to help the working class people, and Harris is seen as not supporting the working class people (I think she flip flopped on the medicare for all?).

But then again, I don't know if republicans will have the votes that they did if Trump isn't running again.

More efforts from the Democratic Party

As a personal question (you do not need to answer obviously), are you organized in the democratic party or another leftwing or liberal group?

Also: I sadly have to say that I think the proposal you cited goes pretty much 180° into the wrong direction. If Democrats actually run with that, I think it is lights out for America. Because this whole text (and also the picture you shared) is just about seeming trustworthy, not being trustworthy. And voters tend to notice that.

Nope. My activism goes as far as voting and attacking people that disagree with me on the internet.

Well that's unfortunate, because fixing the image of the Democratic party is incredibly important too. It doesn't matter if we have the right politics if we don't know how to package that messaging for people in an appealing and non-preachy way, and many of the final 10 points in that post I made aim to regain trust. None of it reads as a ploy to trick voters into thinking they're trustworthy, but rather an attempt to reach people that generally don't trust Democrats.

That's like a serial liar making a plan about how to gain trust again, but not adressing the problem of his frequent lying.

The points claim that democrats should go to townhalls and listen to voters and their issues. But they already claim to know what voters want: more moderate policies, shushing the leftwing voices. Less climate politics, less talk about inequality, less wokeness, no anticapitalism. How would these moderates know that when they have not actually talked to the voters? That is their wishful thinking. If anything, they would need to listen first and THEN have their takeaways. But i doubt they would accept if voters tell them that they actually want leftwing policies.

The claim alone that "democrats need to stop demonizing wealth" and shouldnt talk so much about redistribution is some of the worst analysis of the situation I have ever heard. In the US, in the year 2025, there are 12% of people who think billionaires are good and 60% who think they are bad .
US voters are absolutely striving for policies that are rendered as far left. The problem is that no democrat candidate has ever offered them. They want a wealth tax, they want corporations to pay their fair share. Desperately. And the wealth tax polls were taken before Elon Musk fucked over the country, enraging millions of people and showing everyone how billionaires screw up democracy. And it was taken before a quarter of the country embraced killing CEOs. Saying that redistribution and taxing billionaires is not a winning issue is something so absurd that only a moderate could it.

Basically, you can boil this whole action plan down to:

5. Be Pro-Aspiration & Pro-Capitalism in a Smart Way • Recognize that working-class voters value upward mobility and economic success. • Have a prosperity gospel aimed at the working class. • Call out corporate abuses individually instead of attacking “corporations” as a whole.
Lie your fucking ass off. Lie your ass off to these voters because moderates are afraid of very popular anticapitalist policies and just claim that voters dont like them either. And while lying your ass off, bank on being nice to the stupid village people by waving at them in gunshows and saying "I hear ya, I hear ya brother!" with a wellmeaning, liberal smile.

It is not going to work, it is a clownshow.

The problem is not that Democrats are seen as too leftwing. The problem is that Democrats have no coherent, believable message that they are fighting for. Because you cannot have such a message if you do not care at all about the truth and instead lie to people to make them like you every single election.

Welp, no more money from the US. Looks like Trump and his goons are forcing Ukraine to surrender to Russia. What a great dealmaker of "peace". At this rate Ukraine and their language and culture will only survive in western EU countries while the rest of Ukraine gets gobbled up by Russia in the following years once Putin breaks that treaty again for the 26th time. And then starts attacking Poland and the Baltic states because he knows Trump and the Republican Party won't support these once Trump is in his 3rd term, lol.

I am sure now that Trump/Musk's actions have the very aim to destroy the US and EU for decades to come, including their relationship. There is no other explanation. The reason to me seems that without strong nation blocks, it is far easier for multinational companies and billionaires to do whatever they want.

Plunging the US into tariffs that hurt it while causing anger with its allies is one step in that direction, destroying the international US safety architecture by giving up Europe is another.

Well, no, there's a bit more nuance than that. For one, they're not claiming to know what people want, they're claiming to know what people DON'T want. That sounds like pedantry, but there's a distinct difference.

If people have to work 3 jobs to survive and provide for their family, they want to know how their government, which supposedly works for them, will fix that. And their opinion on Ukraine, Gaza, Drag Queen Story Hour, or who can use which bathroom, is all secondary to that initial concern. A voter can value all of these things and still vote for the political party that's going to keep them from going homeless instead, because that is of highest priority.

That's because billionaires are bad. But no one's thinking of billionaires when they hear about wealth being demonized, because the average person doesn't personally know a billionaire. They definitely know someone more financially stable than them though, to the point of excess, and we shouldn't allow that to be a sign of Conservatism or the Republican party because as Americans strive for economic stability they're gonna choose the party that doesn't make them feel bad about that pursuit.

Lie your fucking ass off. Lie your ass off to these voters because moderates are afraid of very popular anticapitalist policies and just claim that voters dont like them either. You say that if you want to, but the votes will always matter more than polls. People have moral convictions, but those convictions can and will be discarded in emergencies. And all it took THIS time was expensive eggs.

Well I question whether you read any of those lists because the messaging they're ready to focus on is clear. And we'll see how well it works in 2026 after like a year of this strategy (assuming they pull the trigger on it).

There is absolutely nothing wrong with putting rent front and center of your campaign. In fact I would applaud that. However, You can run on rent but you still need a proper stance on Gaza and Ukraine that is coherent. Democrats did not have a coherent stance on Gaza and that was not the fault of the parts of the party who were anti-genocide. It is the fault of the moderates who decided that they didnt need to compromise because it was leftists (and the voters who largely backed an embargo) who needed to shut up. These takeaways reflect that view, as they are thinly veiled moderate propaganda without evidence or real thought behind it.

If Democrats wanted to ask voters what mattered to them, they could never just ignore the calls for an embargo the way they did. But they don't, they want to "listen" to SEEM like they care. That is the core of this paper. And that won't work and it shouldnt.

You say that if you want to, but the votes will always matter more than polls. People have moral convictions, but those convictions can and will be discarded in emergencies. And all it took THIS time was expensive eggs.
Democrats did NEVER, and I mean NEVER point out that capitalism is the root of most American problems. Not this campaign, not any other of the recent past at least. If anything, the problem here is that democrats cannot tell voters the real reasons why egg prices explode, because they do not dare to talk about the economic reality. So the claim that they should back capitalism even more is very absurd. You cannot back capitalism and fight for fairness unless you are lying your ass off. And voters notice that.

Well I question whether you read any of those lists because the messaging they're ready to focus on is clear. And we'll see how well it works in 2026 after like a year of this strategy (assuming they pull the trigger on it).
It is not clear. This is a mixture of different of different strategies that worked in other countries that Third way cobbled together in 1,5 days (instead of taking the proper time) and they miss what made these strategies work in other countries. Especially, what this lacks is actual conviction. It is a strategy built without a core.

Like, if you say the messaging is clear, how would Democrats position themselves on the increasing ICE raids by 2026? Is it a wokeness topic they will just not touch? Will democrats still fight for me in their campaign even if I cannot vote and am illegal in the country? Will democrats discard me as a minority group, just like they did with the gaza crowd, if I am trans and they think I am in the way of their pursuit of working class voters?

At this point I am just lost on what the right wing of the US thinks of the Ukraine-US war. I could understand the take "yeah, russia invaded ukraine but we shouldn't get involved". I wouldn't agree with it but I could understand the take. But getting to the point of blaming zelensky for the entire war... In what reality does that make a shred of sense? At this point I'm just waiting for trump to start bombing ukraine.

They just want a pretext to rob Ukraine of its resources. Like the lie that US gave Ukraine 350 billions, apparently it is closer to 110 billions but hey good enough reason to call off the war, force Ukraine to surrender I mean sign a peace treaty and then get 500 billion rare earth minerals for basically free as "repayment".

I can buy that on the trump/musk side of things but I can't fathom your average russia stooge being about this as the rare mineral discussion is barely a few months old and the war has been going for years. In turn we are nearly at a point where the US government is acting as if ukraine is invading US' long time ally russia.

I suppose it's also worth noting the extent to which trump's deal is bad policy. If I am understanding this right the principle was that ukraine had to add a percentage of mineral sales to a fund until it reached 400 billion (or 500?). Which is... insane for a country that will spend years rebuilding following the war (and we could have years of war ahead). Ukraine giving that money for basically nothing while it is rebuilding is.... I'd guess impossible. On the other hand if the deals is signed but ukraine loses the war then the US gets nothing anyways. Add to that, the region will remain in conflict for god knows how long considering that options following defeat would be either that ukraine get annexed (which would be insane and contrary to decades of russian policy) or russia places a pro russian stooge as dictator. And I will venture the audacious guess that the population won't take kindly to that.

As I said, I think the point for Trump is weakning the US and EU or rather the western order. Republicans act along because they gain their project 2025 and absolute power if things go according to plan. These are people who will say anything for their seat and money. They have no convictions that could ever supersede that.

If Trump manages to push through project 2025, the insitutions of the US are so broken that even if democrats ever manage to get power back, it would take them decades to just undo the damage. Every institution that worked against republican party lines (climate change organs, poverty reduction, NGO) would be dead.

Trump is cuddling with the Chinese and it looks like he intends to create an order in which the US and China share the world among each other and even republicans that acted hawkish would accept that if they gain complete power in the US and half the world.

After all, for the republican party, there is an "after Trump". They might think that they can just put a normal conservative back into office after Trump and then build up the institutions that they like again and ease the most absurd Musk/Trump actions. After all, the conservatives in germany thought they could control Hitler.

None of the Gaza stuff was of any real concern for the millionth time. We saw that based on the voter makeup and the polling.

It's fine, and even justifiable, for you to be skeptical of the party's willingness to change and reach out to people. It's just your vibes are not proof that this is what these strategies secretly are. You're accusing them of deception with no justification outside of their past behaviors, and no evidence that what's been typed here are lies.

They're not going to point it out either. And they shouldn't. No one's destroying capitalism, we're not getting socialism, and you're going to scare off voters with crazy talk like that. What needs to be done is making capitalism work for society, not promising them you're going to tear down the system and give them a utopian new one. Part of that includes taking away the fears Americans have for how they're going to survive the current economic climate, but before you can do that, you've got to convince them that they can trust you to do that. And the way you would do that is with everything mentioned in that list, most specifically the entire bottom 10.

It is not clear. This is a mixture of different of different strategies that worked in other countries that Third way cobbled together in 1,5 days (instead of taking the proper time) and they miss what made these strategies work in other countries. Especially, what this lacks is actual conviction. It is a strategy built without a core.
That's incredibly funny, because I remember attacking you for that exact same reason during our homelessness conversation. But it is clearly meant to be ways to appeal to the working class based on what people have told them, what they've researched, and what has worked for the other party. It's pretty solid, if slap-dash thrown together quickly. Sure there could be more research done, but that's obviously going to happen, because this literally only focuses on one thing: reaching the working class.

Okay, now I know why it's unclear to you: you're focused on the rejection of the progressive stuff, when the entirety of the brainstorming session was meant to find ways to appeal to the working class (I mean it mentions it at the top of each list but whatever...) You're asking a series of questions that literally have nothing to do with convincing the working class that we can appeal to them based on economics.
