^Dude, we're comparing fictional characters... Not saying I disagree or agree with you.
OT: August wins. How this thread has reached 16 pages baffles me. No caster mage (except Acno and Zeref) without any holder type abilities/magical tools can beat August.
because firing illogical nonsense hurts my eyes. and i have tons of free time with nothing to do.
but irene has dragon form which has ridiculous physical stats, so even if August can remove irene's magic she still has the dragon scales to protect her, and overwhelming physical strength to fight back, but she lacks the ability to hit him considering august has meteor+racer magic+cobra magic in his arsenal.
i believe this fight relies solely on August's arsenal, if he has a spell capable of piercing irene's dragon scales.
how is OS being there an upgrade for jellal when them fighting will give August considerable number of haxxes
Cobra's Precognition + Racer Slow Time Perception + Midnight's automatic reflector on top of having Jellal's meteor how are you even gonna hit this guy? any form of attack that's non-living will get auto-reflected by midnight's hax(example a sword like what brandish did will get auto deflected) while you can't touch him due to cobra's precog + Racer slowing down your perception of time + Meteor.. OS just upgraded August more than they helped jellal which i don't think means anything because August stil lhad those OS spells when he fought Gildarts anyway, but just saying.that OS didn't help at all
how is Jellal admitting defeat make Gildarts' stronger? Gildarts found a way around August magic, while Jellal didn't. and admitting his defeat doesn't make gildarts stronger than jellal, wtf? he admitted defeat because he had 0 hope left they've done everything in their power, but all failed they had 0 option left. while Gldarts had found a way around the hax so he's not in a complete despair as CS because he know what abilities will go through, even if there's a minuscule chance of pulling it off he still has hope he knows what abilities will past through, while in Jellal's case they've done everything but there is absolutely nothing left to do.
for all we know August could've spammed them Sema, and Abyss Break if that's the case( IM NOT SAYING IT IS WHAT HAPPENED) then surely Jellal being in that predicament means nothing when you compare it to how August vs Gildarts went.
Geesh, people really are desperately trying to downplay Jellal after this Chapter tons of people are so insecure with Jellal's current feats.
I said that OS did not give Jellal a disadvantage.. that was my point, not whether they helped or not.
And no, I'm not desperate. But the reactions between Jellal and Gildartz clearly show who stood a better chance against August. Gildartz is the superior fighter and was never surprised by August. Jellal on the other hand, was stunned and admitted total defeat.
Actually, we know what happened in the August vs. CS fight. Oracion Seis was clearly beaten and Jellal was quickly put to the ground. And like I previously said, I'm not comparing Jellal and Gildartz.
The reason why I brought Jellal into the discussion in the first place is to show the difference between what a Fodderizing Battle looks like compared to a Non-Fodderizing Battle.
Well, I doubt Oracion Seis made it worse for Jellal. When Midnight used his Spiraling spell, Jellal wasn't hit by it. If anything, I think we could say that OS didn't make it any better for Jellal, but didn't make it any worse either.
Jellal was hit by his spiral spell, he just tanked it:
How would the OS being there not make it worse? It gives August more magic to use against them whilst simultaneously being immune to their magic, it literally gives Jellal 0 advantages whereas it gives August more firepower. At best you could argue it means August has to hit more of them, but the dude has incredible AoE so that wouldn't even be a factor.
And even if we assume that it put Jellal at a disadvantage... By the time August fought Gildartz, not only did he have all of OS's magic (such as Cobra's hearing senses and Racer's speed, etc), but he also had Jellal's magic (such as meteor).
So Gildartz actually had even more difficult time than Jellal because he had to deal with a more powerful August who had already copied Jellal's magic + OS's magic.
The difference is that August didn't even use any of CS' magic against Gildarts until Meteor, and when he did use it he effortlessly blitzed both Cana and Gildarts.
Another thing to note is that apart from Cobra, none of CS is particularly specialized in CQC, so naturally they got stomped by August because he was completely immune to their magic and has CQC skills that allowed him to get the better of Gildarts. In comparison, one of Gildarts' best strengths are his physical attributes, so his magic being useless wasn't as detrimental as it was to CS.
And one distinct difference is Jellal's reaction compared to Gildartz's reaction. Throughout the entire battle, Gildartz's didn't exactly comment about August in a surprised or shocked way.
But during Jellal's battle, Jellal was actually stunned by August's magic/power and made several comments about "losing" the match.
Gildartz never admitted that he was defeated/beaten. But Jellal made a definite comment that August beat him and Oracion Seis combined single-handedly. This showed that Gildartz stood a better chance against August than Jellal + OS.
Jellal being surprised was warranted though, August stomped him and all of CS guys. This is the same Jellal that was somewhat confident they could beat Zeref once and for all, so his subordinate stomping them all at once would naturally shock him.
In comparison, Gildarts thought that God Serena would give him a run for his money, so getting dominated by August wouldn't exactly be surprising to him when August is known as the strongest of Alvarez and far above the other Spriggans.
But anyways, I didn't bring Jellal in to compare the difference between the 2 battles.
I brought Jellal's case in to show the difference between fodderizing vs. non-fodderizing. Somebody who is still standing and fighting to the end (Gildartz) cannot be considered fodderized. Somebody who is instantly put down admitting defeat can be considered fodderized.
But the thing is that Gildarts would have ended up being fodderized had the fight gone on further, Gildarts didn't have any other options against August since he's superior in both magic and CQC. To be honest, it's basically the same result as August vs CS, they fought for a time but ultimately August beat them, the same thing that would have happened to Gildarts.
I said that OS did not give Jellal a disadvantage.. that was my point, not whether they helped or not.
And no, I'm not desperate. But the reactions between Jellal and Gildartz clearly show who stood a better chance against August. Gildartz is the superior fighter and was never surprised by August. Jellal on the other hand, was stunned and admitted total defeat. again this means nothing because knowing

As for your last few paragraphs, it seems you are more desperate than me when it comes to this discussion..
how is giving August multiple haxxes not a disadvantage? in the PoV of CS surely they're helping, but in the PoV of us omniscient reader who knows how August's ability works then they surely arent.
lol did you even read my post(well its a wall of text so i understand)? Gildarts knows the way around august's power he still has hope in the fight because he knows what will get through august's hax. Jellal on the other hand tried everything they have but due to August' hax they were all nullified he had 0 hope and 0 options. i still can't fathom how CS admitting their defeat mean anything when compared to Gildarts fight.
You know what happened? Did Mashima release a hidden chapter about what happened in that fight?
"Oracion Seis was clearly beaten and Jellal was quickly put to the ground" How long were they fighting?...... cricket noise...... We dont know!! so Where the hell did you get the "Oracion Seis was clearly beaten and Jellal was quickly put to the ground" we only saw the tail end of the fight. if you know what happened in the August vs CS fight, then can you show me the scan that shows what spell took down Hoteye?.... ill be waiting..... don't even bother replying if you can't even provide that.
lol you're telling me Gildarts vs August isn't a fodderizing battle? read it again please but this time put down your fanboy glasses. Gildarts = heavely wounded while August is clean, scratch free and is in mint condition.
ummm... im contradicting your statements that are all rooted from an offpanelled fight, the fact that you're using an OFFPANELED fight to back up your statement shows how desperate you are, why? because you can't find any other logical statement to back it up

In my opinion, Jellal seemed like he was out of range when Midnight used his Spiral spell. The panel looks different with Jellal because the lines don't seem to cover or touch him. Plus, the shade of the lines also look different.
Saying that August used OS's magic against Jellal is also kind of an assumption.
Like you said, we don't exactly know what happened in the battle between August and Jellal. It is very possible that August took Jellal down after OS was already beaten. And personally, I don't see any evidence of August using OS's magic to defeat Jellal.
And we also don't know if August used OS's magic against Gildartz. August could have used Cobra's hearing senses to predict Gildartz moves. Or he could have used Racer's speed to fight Gildartz. Those spell can't really be seen.
We know for sure he used a spell resembling Meteor, so Jellal also gave August the advantage there when he tried to blitz Gildartz.
As for the distinction between CQC and magic, I'm not blaming Jellal and OS for being stomped by August. August is haxed and OP. And again, I'm not in any way comparing Jellal to Gildartz. I was just using Jellal's battle as an example to show the difference between Fodderizing vs. Non-Fodderizing.
The expressions of Jellal and Gildartz were very different in the two battles. And I was actually comparing their expressions instead of their power, to prove the difference between Fodderizing vs. Non-Fodderizing.
I'm not in any way trying to take a stab at Jellal, and if you were under the impression of that, then my bad and I'll try to make myself more clearer next time.
And I do agree that Gildartz would have been beaten/defeated if the fight lasted longer, but the only point where I differ is that Gildartz would not be fodderized. Personally for me, I distinguish "being defeated" and "being fodderized" very differently, but again, that's just my opinion.

This will be my last statement regarding your post.
First, we don't know if Jellal was at a disadvantage because of CS. We have almost no idea how the battle took place. It is possible that OS was defeated before Jellal. In that case, OS wouldn't have affected the battle between Jellal and August.
Secondly, if we were to assume that OS did put Jellal at a disadvantage, that means that Gildartz was put at a disadvantage by OS and Jellal.
Third, no, I don't know what happened in the off-paneled fight. But I do know the results and Jellal's stunned statements about it.
And last, you have misunderstood my point from the beginning since I doubt you even read my post, but feel free to think what you like.

I think it's probably best for us to agree-to-disagree, mainly because I think we interpreted the off-paneling of CS differently.
In the larger scheme I just feel August could really fodderize Gildarts a lot faster, if not instantly. However that's not a slight against Gildarts (since practically everyone is in the same boat here), it's just that's how powerful August is IMO.
In my opinion, Jellal seemed like he was out of range when Midnight used his Spiral spell. The panel looks different with Jellal because the lines don't seem to cover or touch him. Plus, the shade of the lines also look different.

1) but its said that they've tried everything, and that they're out of options, so August indeed had at least seen the power of OS before he took down Jellal. its just a matter if he used it against him or not(well he used midnight's magic on him tho)
2)fair enough,
3) thats thing only mashima knows what happened, and you can't use that as basis of comparison between Gildarts and Jellal because both August vs Jellal and August vs Gildarts ended with:
A) August in mint condition, scratch, free as if he just went in for a jogging around the block
B) Jellal and August are both heavily wounded as if they just got ran over by a rampaging T-Rex
basically both got fodderized.
4) i actually read everything on the post im trying to reply to, i only skim when finding interesting topic to reply on
how is it a poor excuse? She wasn't intimated at all. They had a stare that down. She literally said I will let you save face has a general and come with you on this OCCASION. She came because she didn't want to ruin his credibility has a general and plot for this one time. Not because he intimated her and she has to come no she doesn't.

Ironically that was her trying to save face after August tamed her like the general and strongest he is.
Talk is cheap if she had what it took she'd do what she wished
Come on it is obvious he is the strongest. Hiro had a chapter calling him the strongest and Irene herself confirmed that she was strongest woman while August confirmed he was strongest Spriggan overall.

August has shown nothing to take on a dragon.
While irene causal swipe would wreck august.
Infact even human irene doesnt seems that weaker than august red form.
Only thing he has above human irene is magic nulification and copying ability. Arse magic also.
He is not really faster
Or strong hitter
Maybe more durable but he kinda killed himself so thats that
August "the strongest of twelve" not affected by massive PIS and CIS nullifies any enchantments, stops time, enchants his own magic for good measure and good day Irene
August "the strongest of twelve" not affected by massive PIS and CIS nullifies any enchantments, stops time, enchants his own magic for good measure and good day Irene
Lets not equate Erza with August here. Given that he ate Gildartses strongest attack, I dont see why he wouldn't laugh off a mere strike from Irene. She cannot say the same if he fires a DS attack at her, or summons a bunch of DS to do it for him.
Jellals performance against Acnologia was not any worse then human Irenes, arguably even better. August stomped Jellal and his rag tag team of cronies, August stomps human Irene.
Then u read what i wrote right? Simple august use poison DS magic oneshot dragon Irene or historia bring back God Serena and the dragons she fought in the past. Pick ur posion
How can August beat Dragon irene? He is not a dragon slayer. READ ON THE FAIRY TAIL WIKI for imformation. Only a dragon slayer can kill or hurt dragon. Only first, second and third generation of dragon slayer can kill/hurt dragon irene.
Dragon irene > August >human irene
