I wouldn't have expected actual physical barriers between areas tbh. My idea of floors is more like.... They are just this continent size places with arbitrary geography. Inner, outer and middle areas would make more sense either as established by the empire for the sake of the tower climbing system or something else within floors that affects this. Say, shinsoo concentration within a floor for instance.
The part of the middle area that’s all just a maze of tunnels, stairs, etc., seems as if it could’ve been built into a wall (or other boundary) between the inner and outer towers, though.

We don’t see enough to say that conclusively, but if you’re Yuri and you’re traveling from floor X to floor Y via the middle area’s tunnel maze, do you pop out of that on each floor and go up to the ceiling/down to the ground, then get in the next maze?

Or do you just stay in those tunnels the entire time?

Anyways this is getting into angels dancing on the heads of pins territory, and in short the tower is a land of contrasts.

On this part I either profoundly disagree or we have incompatible worldviews (meant in a friendly way): my confusion stems from the apparent boundaries between the inner and middle areas being so nebulous—I was expecting more of a visible barrier, at least—which had me wondering if SIU had quietly evolved his concept to introduce at least an informal split between a "regulars-only, and we mean it" part of the inner tower and a surrounding "you have to at least have been a regular to be here, and you have to follow the rules, but it's a bit looser in these parts". I think the source of my confusion—aside from the lack of visible barriers/boundaries, I'd even have accepted floating buoys for what it's worth!—is that during S1 the regulars live in the inner tower, but they apparently live in the middle area from floor 20 onwards (at least typically).
When they go to the Workshop battle they take a warp ship to the Middle Area. SIU specifically states this. Also when he shows a drawing for the Hell Train path he shows clean lines between the areas.

It’s true that SIU doesn’t always explicitly show where they are but I took it to be if a test is being taken it’s the inner tower or a special event (where Rankers can’t interfere) in the middle Tower - meaning the Workshop battle or the Zigena quest.

Think about it like this: the Evankhell Hell area is forbidden to Rankers but Evan and Yuri had to pass by 2F to get to 1F. They went in a completely separate space (middle area). You’re right that we disagree but SIU has been kind of vague. All we can do is wait for more chapters :)

I think there is a misconception of Rankers being allowed in the regular areas and Rankers interfering with regulars. We saw rankers come to get YHS and Evankhell show up all in the regular area. We also so Ren in the regular area and Yuri confront him. It is not that the rankers are not allowed, it is that the floor admin/owner has the authority and trespassing in these areas may lead to a confrontation with the floor admin. I think these rules are no different than speed limits on the highway. Yeah, they are rules but if you break them and are caught, there may be consequences. I assume the floor admin is all-seeing and thus, any indiscretion toward regulars may be more serious than a ranker v ranker type indiscretion.

If Bam is training to 'hunt Kallavan' and he realises his potential after training with Evankhell enough to be able to threat Kallavan like Evankhell or Jinsung was able to then there will only be handful of people who could potentially be a threat to Bam. He can probably wade through Zahard rankers with a 'meh'
