Re: The NBA Thread

I love the march madness... way more than the NBA regular season
if ths thread became the basketball thread, I'll start to talk about the euroleague too hahah
It'd actually be nice. Do we have a separate thread for Euroleague or European basketball in general, anyway?

There is not, not as far as I know. You are welcome to start a thread anytime, if you wish.

Can't you just change this thread title to "The Basketball Thread"?

I mean, there is a Football thread and it's enough, and we talk about every competition there (we're not like, WC thread, Champions league thread, Premier legue thread, etc...), basketball could be the same.

Ah, I see.
Pity we didn't think of it before Euroleague Top 16 nearly reached its conclusion. I guess I can still open it by the end of it so that there might be a chance to preview/review F8 and onwards.

It's also an option. I won't have problems with either being applied.

Well the Heat lost! Does anyone watch female college BBALL? Brittany Griner is completely going to change female basketball across the world. She dunked 3 times in one game!

in looks? lol. Do you care to state the reasons why?
I like her better as a player. Has nothing to do with looks...though I do have some questions about Griner, but let's not get into that :e3

It's fine that Griner is dominant and can dunk, but I think Delle Donne is more representative of the women's game and more well-rounded.

UHm well their both females so IMO they both represent the Womans game just fine, I don't know how you can even say something like that. Griner can shoot extremely well within 8 feet, pass, rebound, and block shots. EDD can shoot farther out and dribble well enough (not great) but Griner has her beat out in those other things. Griner also hasn't been playing as long as EDD either but the fact that she can influence a game defensively so well is unheard of. EDD is more or less Candance Parker while Griner is essentially a completely new type of female player. IF I gave her a Men's comparison it would be a Bill Russell/Wilt Chamberlain mold. I would love to see them go at it for the National Championship but I doubt Delaware as a team can go that far. On another note EDD is super hot for a 6'5 chick.

How can you say they both represent the women's game just fine when it's noteworthy that Griner dunks in a game? :errr

I guess you misunderstood me. I'm not taking anything away from Griner, or even saying Delle Donne is a better player. I just like her game more. Griner is a physical freak, but if you think that her presence is going to result in the game becoming more above the rim, you're wrong. Part of her dominance is attributed to no one else on the floor being like her.

I guess you misunderstood me as well. So you think Dunking is a MENS thing? I'm not going to comment on that subject more than that.
Her presence dominates a game and it isn't like she's double clutch dunking on opposing players. Infact take away her dunks and she's still the most imposing college player ever! Tell me she's not seriously! I can name a few more offensively as dominant but not defensively and she's both.

Almost every great player in basketball especially in the last 40 years is a physical freak so that was a weird thing to say. Basketball (Men and Women) has always had great skill players but once everyone is at the same skill level what separates them? Your comment would be like saying MJ was so good because he could jump or Wilt Chamberlain only scored 100 points because after him the tallest guy was 6'8.

I'm not trying to attack you but your essentially saying you like another player only because she fits the mold you consider to be typical in womans basketball well good for you but don't downplay a player like Griner because there have been taller woman who weren't as good. /rant

Anyways my Jayhawks loss. Guess I'll route for my hometown 'Cuse. MARCH MADNESS!!!

How is dunking not a men's thing? The women's game just isn't played above the rim...that's a fact. The games are diferent. What's there to argue about there? :huh

A lot of the great women's players have been physical freaks, but not all of them. If you think about it, most of those playing the sport are physical freaks, regardless of gender. It's not like Delle Donne isn't 6'5"... But you have smaller players like Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi as well. And "smaller" is relative. They're both quite tall for being female.

I'm just happy to see Delle Donne getting more national media attention. I wasn't trying to put down Griner either. What would be the point in that? I'd just be wrong :XD

Like I said EDD isn't breaking the mold like Griner is. Dunking isn't a MENs thing because obviously women can do it too. Even EDD can (I've seen youtube). I see your point to a degree but woman really can do anything a man can do. I'm not saying that it's going to become the norm or anything like that but it's pretty obvious that woman are getting more athletic at younger ages just like men are. Your opinion could be seen as sexist infact but that's my G/Fs opinion not mine. Physical freak doesn't mean just tall or big those "smaller" players have good quickness, footspeed, balance, and (Diana more than Sue) strength that isn't average.

If you want to look at it as sexist, then I don't know what to tell you. But the evidence is there. Women aren't as fast or strong as men. And you know what? That's fine! They don't play against men! This is like the Connecticut win streak all over again when they said they "broke" the record set by a men's team. They're different sports. What is wrong with them being viewed differently?

This all started with me saying I like Delle Donne's game more because it's more representative of the women's game. I like the underdog story as well. That doesn't mean I think she's better than Griner. I don't know how what I said was incorrect. EDD isn't less representative just because a handful of women can dunk in a game. The fact that it's noteworthy that a girl can dunk at all tells you enough about the women's game.

Like I said it really wasn't me but I can see how your comment could be seen that way. It's like saying white guys can't jump or black guys are fast. Your comment on EDD was like sterotyping that girls are only going to be this much but it's all moot the girls game is evolving very quickly and like i said previously their athleticism will catch up in due time. Anyways anyone see Kevin Ware from Louisville break his leg? OUCH

Are you a geneticist? :lmao I mean, a 100k years in the future that might be true, that's sort of a topic for another thread I guess. But I just think there's too much political correctness going on with that type of reaction. It doesn't mean it has to make the women's game any less entertaining to fans, and it doesn't make it any less competitive. But facts are facts :sweat Griner is an exception to the norm there. If women were closer to the level of men, they'd play in the same league. And don't get me wrong, there's plenty of female players that could absolutely school a guy in hoops. I've lost games of HORSE to plenty of girls :XD

Yeah, that was horrendous. Glad they still beat Duke :blai

Shaq will have his 34 retired at the staples today...
The Lakers will need to really step up on this last 8 games, up to the wizards game they were looking like a lock at the playoffs... but with a couple of bad losses and the jazz recovering nicely.. they're with the back at the wall
