Yeah, I think the IoE told Griffith he could do as he wished. I would like to know what Griffith was thinking when he learned that his creation and everything he had done was according to causality. That his very ambition wasn't even his, but the will of the IoE. I wonder if he would use this opportunity, not to redeem himself, but to try to undo the IoE's control of the world?

Since the IoE is basically the heart of mankind and rules over the events in the human world, it's hard to imagine Griffith destroying it. Maybe changing the way it works into something else (I don't know, instead of pumping evil as a reason for existence, pumping love and chocolate, for example) or even putting another thing in it's place as the heart of the world (Griffith and Guts merged souls at the unlikely end of Beserk would be awesome ). Wouldn't that "redeem" the world and, thus, make it his own kingdom?

Either way, the IoE is too important to the universe of Berserk to be left aside, and Miura clearly has plans for it.

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that he might tweak the thinking behind was what explained in 83 as well. Since it isn't considered canon due to it's exclusion, we probably shouldn't refer to it expecting it to be used at a later time.

While it is true that ep. 83 was taken out, it can certainly be put back in at a later time. Miura said that showing a god character in Berserk limits what can be done. Later when asked if we would ever see the IoE again, he said that he didn't really know if it would come back. Which leads me to believe that the Berserk world is still dependent on this character.

But even without its inclusion into canon, the Idea is alluded to existing within the abyss. Two clues are the episode title "Shadow of Idea" and when Flora mentions that the godhand serve something deeper within the astral plane.

Well, yeah, he can always alter the meaning behind the IoE. No arguing with that. But didn't Miura take that chapter out because he thought it revealed too much about the story in the first place? I mean, if it happens that the IoE should be somehow excluded from the plot, it's not far-fetched to consider that he would, at the very least, have something else in it's place, be it only alluded to (the IoE as merely a concept) or literally there, as the manifested God of the Abyss.

I hope that the IoE does come back. Just seems like a waste for it to be referred to and never be seen again.

Some sort of force behind everything will definitely be revealed in my opinion, but if it's anything like what was in chapter 83, who knows

I was just examining some religious symbolism when I noticed that in Berserk there was a pretty obvious one, though I suppose as many other things implied in the Conviction arc to religion. The tower of conviction looks very similarly to the Tower of Babel, comparison between the two pictures:

I think religious symbolism is not applied only to the Conviction arc, it follows through the series. There is also the absurd, which applies to the God Hand, they are illogical beings sprouted into a seemingly logical reality that Guts experiences. You could say Guts's logic and the Idea of Evil is illogical.

Reading back on the Golden Age, I still have a love/hate feeling towards Griffith. I kind of yearn to see Griffith and Guts standing together as equals and friends. I love the bond between the two and how deep Guts misunderstanding of Griffith's beliefs on a friend is. Guts became Griffiths world in the end and it broked Griffiths heart when he left, he loved Guts and only wanted him for himself thats why he said he didn't care if he did kill Guts because if he could not have him then he would not let anyone.
Griffith the person from out of a tale got to the point where his dream would happen but he failed and threw it all away after losing Guts.
I believe Guts was the pedestal for Griffith, Griffith needed someone with him to carry his burdens (Everyone thought Griffith to be unreal and figure how could he carry it all) so like a friend that he knew was there and would bring him relief in serious times.

But also I want Griffith to be killed by Guts for what he did, but I guess all that could be directed to Femto. Guts in Vol.3 Showed extreme hatred towards Griffith in the form of Femto but when he sees Griffith be reborn (in human form) he says for a second he lost all hate and malice towards him. So maybe Guts could kill Femto and have Griffith be by his side again.

I think the god of the abyss will happen because if the God hand is wiped out then who is to say A NEW god hand could be form by the god of the abyss?

Berserk's coming back with chapters of Guts past

Berserk Manga to Return with 3 New Chapters

This year's 11th issue of Hakusensha's Young Animal magazine revealed on Friday that Kentarou Miura's Berserk manga will be returning for a three-chapter run, starting in the next issue on June 8. The three chapters will depict an episode from Guts's childhood.

Although the manga is currently irregularly serialized, Berserk Ōgon Jidai-Hen II: Doldrey Kōryaku (Berserk Golden Age Arc II: The Battle for Doldrey), the second film in a planned Golden Age trilogy, will open in theaters in Japan on June 23. The next Young Animal issue will also come with a "Berserk Premium DVD" promoting the film series.

So 3 chapters then another long break and its just on young Guts and not advancing the plot. Oh well I will still enjoy it.

I wonder if those 3 episodes will have any tie-in with the movies.
It seems awfully strange to put 3 flashbacks episode there, so it must be to promote the movie or something...

But what connection does it have to recent events? Or are they for the movies, and the fans that are only watching them? Strange news, considering the manga covered the past of the characters till death in the first part. D: Oh well, if it is anything new, that might shed some more light I am all for it!

Nice to see past events covered with the current art style though, it should be fun.

Interesting....I don't know what age Guts is in this picture. He looks young but looks nothing like he did when he was younger than 15, his face is more like it is at his current age. I miss how he use to look.

He doesn't look that young no...he could easily pass for Golden Age Guts. I find it interesting that he has a wooden, shackle-like restraint around his hands...

Yeah I was thinking maybe when he leaves Griffith but his arms are not that built so maybe during the band of the hawk that year before being accepted into Windam. Maybe he had been captured or had to play the role for Griffith.

Never the less, I think the Makers of the movies asked him to make these chapters for them.

Probably covering the days he left or stuff that we thought happened off screen? Should be interesting, since we get to meet with interesting middle ages like people, like we used to do, a good break from the fantasy stuff.

I just hope this three episode flashback reveals something earth-shattering. Otherwise no story progression at all; after a three month break.

TBH, I'm all for flashbacks, but for other characters that rarely get the spotlight.

Okay I'm pretty sure this is when he just joined the band of the hawk and those 3 years that the manga skipped through to midland. Because Guts had a dark t shirt on when he was 15 but this one looks more like a shorter selves or just a vest lol
