1. Natsu- DF vaporizes you and your magic
2. Gildarts- All crush is an insta kill move for anyone that's not a Dragon, August who can nullify it or Natsu who can burn magic. Couple that with being the physically strongest FT member that can imbue his punches into it then you're cooking with some high offensive power.
3. Erza- Her swords give her the ability to cause more lethal damage. For example she could just slash someone's throat or other vital area to cause massive damage.
4. Laxus- It's Laxus nuff said.
5. Mirajane- BSS has just been on a roll. Capable of hurting both Madmole and Skullion. Former can no sell Demo-fist and the latter capable of oneshotting DeS Gray.
6. Skullion- Able to oneshot Gray who unlike the rest tried his best.
7. Elfman- Hits way harder than a Demolition Fist Natsu.
8. Gajeel- Matched blows with LFD Natsu.
9-10. Hmm... am I'm going to put Jellal or not? Find out in Offensive rank.

Erza proved to be smart in battle, in her fight against Midnight. In the end, i don't know if "most intelligence refers to actual irl intelligence, or intelligence in combat. Because Levy is pretty smart, but the way she uses her magic is just mehhh

You mean the Acno that got rammed by a ship, couldn't oneshot it, and had a hard time catching it for several chapters?

Makarov stopped Dragon Acno in his tracks. Natsu's Base Demo-fist > Makarov >= Jellal.

list would limit people's imagination. and there's a possibility one prefers character A to B in their list.

It doesn't have to, they don't have to be limited to the characters you'd list out. It's just a reminder that those characters exist, and if you yourself forgot someone as well, someone would probably remind you of other characters worthy being on the list.

list would fit a category based on group, such as Ishgar, Albareth, or dark guilds ranking. you don't have to search for all characters list on wikia lol.
To make it easier, just search by group/affiliation such as Tartaros, Spriggan 12, FT. From FT, take some mages you consider most offensive. From Tartaros, take some too. And so on. I believe every strong mage is/was in a group. Avatar is a fodder group so you can just skip them.

I suppose, but personally, I doubt people would go to all that trouble to make their list. They would still just make the list based on the characters they remember. And some people forget characters that should easily skyrocket to the top.

Personally, I forgot Ultear for the ft girls contest but that's fine as that has to be subjective, but power rankings requires a certain objectivity to it and one person forgetting a major player could make a lot of difference. looking through the tankiest thread, I easily spotted three regulars posting about forgetting to put certain people on their list and that's why we ended up with the half-baked inaccurate ranking that we got with ridiculous absurdities I could refute in a single sentence.

But it's up to you, not gonna say anymore about the matter, don't wanna push it lol.
