Re: Claymore by Yagi Norihiro

I think I agree with Khal-san that Raki may have struck a deal with Isley or Priscilla for some reason. If he was stupid enough not to notice they were bad guys, he phails miserably as a character worth knowing about. But I think that them being evil, there's a 98% chance that they would deceive him. In that case, it means they thought he would be of some use. I mean, why keep him all this time and not let him in on the secret? They could just have eaten him or something.

The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced Raki will play a role different from his sniveling past self. He might cause a major turn-around in the story.

Re: Claymore by Yagi Norihiro

I'm sorry, but the person on his shoulders is never Priscilla, or did she shrinked? Come on, that just can't be her, she's much bigger than this little girl, so why are you all thinking it's her?
I think it's her, for the simple reason that it'd make sense, and that Claymore artwork has never been very stable (characters change their looks/height slightly all the time, if you take a close look), and also... Priscilla isn't a human, she's able to alter her appearance as she sees fit, right? I mean, the form she took near the end of part I of the series was much younger than the form she had when still a Claymore, so she must've been able to alter it at will.

Also, Raki has become much taller than he was, making it seem as if she's smaller than she actually is, because you keep comparing them.

Re: Claymore by Yagi Norihiro

By the way that Raki swings that sword around, it certainly seems as if he has superpowers now. He could be a male Claymore now, or he could have some other sort of power (since we know now that the world isn't limited to one island and one type of superhuman being).

He doesn't seem to lose to your basic Claymore in strength, since he can swing the sword with one hand and cut through Yomas. And if it's actually a Claymore, then he must have found the source, because it doesn't have the mark to show that it used to belong to someone else. So anything could have happened to him in the time that's passed, really.

It's possible. But I think that if he had youki now he wouldn't need the little girl/Priscilla to point out the youma for him.

Unless he were crap at sensing Yoki. Or maybe he knew all along, and he was testing the girl to make sure she was able to sense him too. I'm not saying he necessarily is a Claymore or something similar or whatever, but it's too soon to really rule out the possibility.

Re: Claymore by Yagi Norihiro

Well, atm, there are 2 possibilities:

1) Not a Claymore, but was ass-kicked by Isley a lot that he became so good

2) Isley turned him into a Claymore. Well, basically he just needs to have his body injected (or whatever the process is) with Yoma flesh/blood to become Claymore. Isley lived long enough to gather and know the knowledge to do it possibly.

In fact, (this is only if he's a Claymore), what if Isley fed Raki with his own flesh and blood? Injected by an awakened flesh/blood, not a normal Yoma. Well, all is just speculations.

So far there are more evidences against him being a Claymore. Can't sense Yoma and not silver haired. But then, it is interesting that the equipment he's wearing could very well be Isley's old armor and sword? Since the sword Raki is holding is no difference than the sword of the Claymore at the beginning of the chapter, especially no symbol on them. Be it the character on the first page is male or female, it seems that the symbol was not engraved into the sword long ago. Well, it could just be for the sole reason of that the Claymores in the present time are just lab mice, so a symbol needs to be given as the identifying method.

Re: Claymore by Yagi Norihiro

In fairness, though, I don't remember us ever learning what male Claymores looked like. I don't think we've ever seen one other than Awakened Beings, and they can shapeshift. We don't know if their hair and eyes change colour.

And I don't think we can be sure that Raki hasn't changed, based only on the black and white picture we have.

Re: Claymore by Yagi Norihiro

Isley is a male Claymore (well "was" would be more appropriate). So we can say they, more or less, looked like him. But then, comes the issue of Riful not looking like a Claymore at all >.>;

And just compare the 7 warriors' hair to Raki in the B&W. There's a distinctive shade on Raki. Although yeah, you can say that. All we have now are speculations at most.

Bax, you're forgetting that the human shape that Awakened Beings take on aren't their original Claymore looks, but their human looks. Riful got back her original hair colour, Priscilla got back her original hair colour, and so did Isley and whatshisnametheliondemonthatClarekilled.

The fact that Isley's original haircolour was blonde was just a coincidence.

(But yes, I think we can safely assume that male Claymores also had the hair discolouration that is so significant in the female look.)

Re: Claymore by Yagi Norihiro

I doubt that the little girl Raki was carrying around was Priscilla for several reasons.

1) Her look. She was tiny and she was wearing claymore gear. Granted everyone looks small next to the new Conan version of Raki, but you can still compare her to the people around them.

2)They kept her face hidden. If it was Priscilla then we all know what she looks like, so why the secrecy?

As for the new massive Raki, the thing that makes me think he hasn't been turned into a Claymore yet is that a single normal yoma could put up a decent fight against him. Even Clarice could have killed that one in her sleep. Though when he does get turned into a Claymore he will be a god of destruction, in a good way.

From the picture, it looks blondish-silver, but I would think it's just silver, mainly because from the picture, it looks like there is sun being reflected on his silver hair, which in turn makes his hair have a blondish tint. Just my thoughts though. :p

I wouldn't call that 'put up a fight'. I don't remember seeing Raki take any damage.

But indeed, normal small-fry youma aren't something you can read power from. They're - at this point in the manga - so insignificant that every character that has a name should be able to sneeze them to death out of boredom.

Re: Claymore by Yagi Norihiro

Well, at the very least, regardless of anything else, Raki is base Claymore level, because the Yoma and the townspeople were both amazed that he could win. This is Raki's home village, so the people have seen Yomas and Claymores before.

And it looks like his sword may be even bigger and heavier than a regular Claymore's (because it seems to have the same size relative to his body and he's much bigger than they are), and if we assume that his sword is made from the same or comparable material as Claymores, then it seems like his armour is probably made from it too, since it deflected the Yoma's attack. That means he must be incredibly strong to be able to walk around in it and swing the massive sword with one hand.

Re: Claymore by Yagi Norihiro

The majority that posted here are forgeting about many things due to their hate to raki, let me point few things out for u all:

-To the ones that hate raki because he is weak:
It is stated that adult humans are no match to yomas/claymores now add the fact he was just a kid 13/14 (weaker than an average adult) and add also the fact that he had no battle training/experience whatsoever now tell what the hell could he do? This is a "realistic" manga it would be stuped if raki could actually fight when he was a kid.

-To the ones saing he always needed protection
Point me where did he ever need protection. The only situations i can remember was when he met claire and decided to go with her (2 situations actually first on his own town and another when he was going after her) taking those aside he was never with her when she was fighting. (ophelia x claire is not an example since ophelia could have killed claire if raki wasent there after ophelia cut claires legs she decided to play with raki instead of killing claire so his "useless" was handy here) In all the important fights raki was either in a town safe or far away from claire examples: fight agains her first awakened, fight agains riful, fight agains awakened ophelia and the fight in pieta.

-For the ones that keep saing he would be an idiot if he didnt realize priscilla/isley are the bad guys:
Oh really? Tell me something he couldnt sense yoki (cant tell they are awaken being) they were kind to him, and they never did anything evil in front of raki how would he tell they are bad (they could hide that they eat humans besides that little fact they can act like regular humans)? Psichy powers? Intuition?

-Now back on topic:
I dont think raki is a claymore, every claymore has the ability to sense yoki of course the qualite of this ability is not the same for them all whoever at the very least each claymore can sense well enought to find youmas among citizens otherwise it would be just stuped to split them into 47 areas since if one could not sense yoki she wouldnt be able to protect the city (not sense means not finding the youma if u cant find u cant kill). This leads to 2 things:
1-Raki is human had an intense training and can take out youmas
2-Raki is a new sort of hybrid he is not a claymore prolly lost some abilitys (sensing youma, silver eyes/hair) and gained something else in return.

Conclusion:
Nice chapter, im still not happy with this "there is an entire world outside the insland" and i dont really like raki but i dont hate him either i just think some of u should pay more attencion to the facts instead of just going off with "omg he sucks".

Re: Claymore by Yagi Norihiro

The issue is not whether he is claymore level or not, but whether he can help Claire or not. I think we all agree that if it was the Claire frim 7 years ago then he would've been a great help, but right now Claire is fighting in another league... u can see that if he took so long for just a yoma at this level, then there's no way the balance of power between Raki and Claire changed so she won't have to protect him( and don't even mention "saving her").

Re: Claymore by Yagi Norihiro

In all the important fights raki was either in a town safe or far away from claire examples: fight agains her first awakened, fight agains riful, fight agains awakened ophelia and the fight in pieta.
You might want to re-read the Ophelia Arc. There were two battles in it, one before, and one after the training with Ilena/Irene. In the former, when it was Clare-vs-Ophelia-vs-NamelessAwakenedBeing, Raki was even taken "hostage" by Ophelia.

Apart from that: yes, you're right in that it makes sense for Raki to be weak. But that doesn't take away the fact that he was, and that it was pretty annoying for him to be around, doing almost nothing of importance except serve as a catalyst for changes in Clare's character.

Hmm, I posted something similar in a different thread today, let me quote some... It was actually about Clare and Raki's "bond", but I wrote some stuff in there that I'm too lazy to type again right now, so heh:

(...) Raki is obviously nothing more than an author's tool. The manga needed a male presence, and somebody weak to make the Claymores seem stronger by comparison, and he had to be rather clueless so that Clare could explain things to him so that the readers would learn of it as well (it would be silly for Clare to talk to herself). I'm sure that any 'relationship' between them was originally only meant to be on some sort of child-mother level, to mirror the relationship that Clare used to have with Teresa, and to trigger changes in her character.

If you think of him as just that, he was actually a pretty well-executed storytelling device, ... but alas! Having him weak and clueless only served to get practically all Claymore readers to hate him (for being just useless as a character -- as opposed to a storytelling device).

And after that, he just got screwed up, when their relation suddenly (without explanation or indication) changed into some sort of... affection? or even love? Anyway, "the kiss" completely ruined it, and to me seemed like nothing but a (probably editor-enforced) attempt to include some romantic subplot in the story, to keep it popular, and to give Clare something of a "goal", (apart from just getting stronger to kill Priscilla).

Nothing was shown that could explain Clare's illogical 'obsession' with Raki, or her reason for not giving up on chasing after him for seven years. She's got more important things to do anyway. (...)

Tell me something he couldnt sense yoki (cant tell they are awaken being) they were kind to him, and they never did anything evil in front of raki how would he tell they are bad (they could hide that they eat humans besides that little fact they can act like regular humans)? Psichy powers? Intuition?
Of course, if everything went according to Isley's and Priscilla's "plans", he would've never found out, but life doesn't work that way. You can't spend seven years with people you don't know to be gut-eating demons without noticing subtle oddities in their behavior. Something like what happened in the anime (Raki caught Priscilla eating the guts of a random man and crying about her lost family) would've eventually happened. Also, Raki - who has been portrayed as a decently smart kid, if a bit emotional - wouldn't be one to just accept the fact that 'this young girl I'm travelling with can sense youki' without putting some question marks into that ability and it's origins.
