Re: (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) :frankerz + :kappa = ??

I think I told you that I'm not an old fan of D2 right? Only played the game (for the first time) a year before D3 or so, there's no nostalgia for me. I still could see that it was a great game back in the days. I don't even care too much about the endgame, honestly. I really enjoyed the story of D2, while D3 had an average story at best. No doubt that this kind of game is hard to pull off nowadays, because people just expect a lot more, but even then, D3 wasn't all that different to D2 regarding mechanics and stuff. And the difference of release is like what? 10 years or more. Just expected a bit more, and the story being lackluster was another bummer.

Not so much in the mood for online games anyway, so I'm not that hyped for Titan. If it turns out to be awesome (meaning great test results and people I know fangasm about it) then I might as well give it a chance, otherwise probably not.

Then it's not so much a fault of the system but your "fault" as well :XD If you don't want to own/reread anything you've seen/read once, then there's only you to blame. In that case you should rather buy manga or buy anime if you want to see something new. Crunchyroll would be a good start, yeah. The translation isn't top-notch, but fine. Enough to give something back for all the fun you had.

Not saying the system is flawless though, you're right with that. Alpha is just one example, there are many other series we just can't get without online Edited Mangas. Same goes for lots of anime (which tend to be extremely expensive anyway). So yeah, instead of focusing to prevent piracy, which they can't stop no matter what, they should rather focus on that aspect. Not like piracy would stop completely, but I'm pretty sure it would guarantee them some nice amount of extra money. Probably not so much compared to the whole japanese market, but still. That's the best way to prevent some piracy + earning some extra money. Probably not easy to pull off, dunno how much effort they're putting into that behind what they tell us, but their current effort with blocking batoto, nyaa and the likes is simply stupid :s

Just watched the AnoHana movie... it managed to made me cry again :crying

It's not a perfect movie but really well done. There was more new content than I expected and they managed to combine that with the most impactful moments of the series, while giving more insight on the characters :wtf Great job and worth recommending.

oh god... are you trying to scare me away from my own thread?

Yup. And yeah pretty hard to be a D2 fan when you didn't play it when it was "new"... It's exactly what I said, the games aren't that different but with upgraded graphics, better mechanics (but similar) and much worse story, but gamers still regard D2 as a "god game" because back then it gave you what you wanted and was epic awesome. In today's standards D2 would be a really awkward game in terms of mechanics as the mechanics then were more old school and unforgiving, but a game with a good story. That's about it.

I don't watch enough anime to support Crunchyroll etc. Not in my opinion, so I'd rather freeload that shit. Alpha I'd be interested but I'm repeating myself.

Not yet. I said I would MAYBE check it out.

How much timeskip content does Anohana have? That's pretty much the only thing I care about. I rewatched it only 6 months ago or something. Too soon to experience the story a THIRD time for me, even with a new "angle" and some new content.

Then let's keep this short xD

Agreed.

Makes sense I guess.

That's why I asked. Shame you didn't, but okay.

I would say about 30-40 minutes. The whole movie plays one year after AnoHana events, with characters occasionally looking back to past events. Some added content from when they were kids too (and a few added scenes/viewpoints from Menma's perspective, but that's really rare). I think I've rewatched the series not long before you, maybe 7 or 8 months for me, and enjoyed it a lot. Then again, I'm an AnoHana fanboy.

Re: (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) :frankerz + :kappa = ??

WTF. I thought the movie would be very minor timeskip content and be almost entirely a "repeat" in condensed form of the series but from Menma's POV. That's how I understood it from all the discussions and marketing O_O

I gotta watch that shit then! Would you recommend DeadFish or MD subs you geek you? :^)

Well I'm a "fanboy" I guess too. I mean we both regard the series very highly, and both have rewatched it.

Well give it time. Only been a few days since I said I would maybe check it out xD

Well that's how I understood it too, but it's far from that. I guess with Menma's point of view they mean the added past events (where you see how Menma got into the Super Piece Busters and stuff like that, really nice) and some extra monologue here and there. Besides that it's completely after the series, the characters just look back from time to time, and that gives some interesting insights about their past and current thinking. They even give a little focus to Menma's family, that was a pleasant surprise. So for a supposedly recap movie it adds way more than I expected too, but you can still expect around half of the film, if not a bit more, to be somewhat recap. Didn't mind it at all though.
They only really pick out the most important events though, you will see.

Ugh, Deadfish rips the subs from other groups so that's a definite no for me. Checked for MD, seems that's more or less a re-upload of Refrain Subs too, just from a trusted group.
I would suggest this, the original source:

http://www.nyaa.se/?page=view&tid=565661

Remove the link afterwards or something xD

Yeah, forgot you enjoyed it that much too x) Did you shed some manly tears at the end?

Well sure, I just thought you would either decide to read it or not on the spot, considering it's only a few chaps (so not really time-consuming) xD

Thanks mate! Sounds way better than I thought it would be then. Color me surprised. Hope I'm not getting too high hopes now but what you said really surprised me. I'll watch it tomorrow most likely.

At Anohana? O_O God you are getting old or something? Yes x2, and they weren't manly.

Even the MAL description sounds like it's a recap movie... Jeez. I've read that one before though.

Well to give you the gist, it plays one year after the event (when they parted with Menma) and they decided to each write a letter to Menma, to commemorate. So you have everyday life mixed in there, while you have the main characters either write their stuff right now, and you get a flashback through that, or reminisce about past events while doing something else. During that you see how they behave nowadays and how they behave towards each other. Some really heart-warming stuff, I tell you x) For me it was a great movie, I think I shed even more tears then during my second rewatch, but I don't want to get you too hyped or something, judge for yourself.

lol sorry, I guess the TTGL/Durarara!! fanboy image was more strong in my head :XD Same for me, x3 now. Didn't think it would catch me AGAIN but dem feels are just too strong, damn. I think AnoHana really is my favourite drama show.

A bit weirdly worded, yeah. MAL descriptions tend to be rather bad anyway, if it's not a manga adaption and they just copy from there :s

o god I watched the first 15 min just out of curiosity before bed, and it's like a nightmare Naruto episode full of fillers :XD

To be honest I might skip a lot of the "flashbacks". Fastforward through them and see if I see anything new or not. We'll see.

Re: (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) :frankerz + :kappa = ??

Kinda thought you would say something like that :XD You can do that too, there's enough new material during the film, but a lot of stuff we've seen already, so yeah.

---------- Post added at 12:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:07 PM ----------

Kinda funny though, considering at least half of the 15 minutes is new content, but I guess the flashbacks annoy you or what? xD

Re: (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) :frankerz + :kappa = ??

Flashbacks are almost never a positive factor as far as I'm concerned. I thought it'd be a recap movie so fair enough, but when it's actually major new content I question the need to "filler it out". I guess it was too hard to make it movie-length with almost purely new content, and obviously the other option would be to make it a "40 minute TV special" or something, but the income level would clearly be many levels below so the wise choice was to make it what it is. The other factor is Menma obviously being the key piece of the story, so she had to play a major role in the movie, unless they wanted to sort of "move past her".

It's a nice concept anyway, and if it had been longer since I rewatched it I probably wouldn't mind at all. I doubt many will complain about the current format, but I'm mainly talking about flashbacks in general here. Flashbacks CAN be cleverly used, and sometimes flashbacks are excellent for revealing something the author intentionally made hard to catch, or you have those amazing flashback "arcs" etc. But in many ways flashbacks are cheap tools to stretch out content (thus to make money on making no new content, so free money) or cheap tools to cover up your own lack of storytelling ability. I mean I really facepalm when I see a flashback of something that happened in the previous episode(s) of an anime or manga, or even from earlier in the same chapter/episode, when the above scenario doesn't apply where it's to explain an intentionally vague happening. Generally flashbacks is a cheap tool.

Anyway just a small rant :^)

Well I feel you, but like you said it was probably done to make it move-length. Could've just been a sequel with a bit more new content I, that would've been perfect, but then again the cornerstone was Menma, so they probably didn't want to go much beyond that.

I agree, they're a bit overused. It's the best and easiest way to stretch time, so for the companies it's the easiest way. In manga it's probably to make sure that readers remember past events or something, but I usually don't need that either. Flashbacks which explain something and/or show something we've never seen before is another thing, I don't really mind that.

So you watched it huh? XD Thoughts? I think you mean that they basically refused to give us some definite answers? Well like I said the focus was Menma again, but I would've prefered if they gave some closure on Jintan/Anaru and Yukiatsu/Tsuruko too. Tsuruko going all "I'm going to make my move soon" was such a tease at the end xD Still really enjoyed the movie, a shame that we probably won't ever get a real, if only short, sequel that gives a little bit more insight.

Was good to see that Menma's family seems to have moved on though :')

Re: (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) :frankerz + :kappa = :^) ?

To be honest, I feel like I would rather have my imagination be the sequel... So often you think "damn I want to see what happens after", and so many times you see the authors say "that's up to one's imagination, that's the beauty". Well in this case I would've preferred my imagination. Too little had happened in one year for me. Zero progress for Jintan as a character, not just his love life. I mean wtf the ending suggested he was finally moving on, going back to school and getting his life together. Now he still is a drop out it seems, while he doesn't seem to be emo, far from it, he still hasn't moved on. He's basically the exact same guy as before the series only not emo. It really annoyed me how the small hints dropped in the ending seemed to not be true at all. He didn't move on, go back to school and get his life together. He didn't build any form of a start of a relationship with Anaru. Nothing at all happened. Jintan and Anaru, mainly Jintan is my only real complaint. The others are more as expected. While Yukiatsu isn't dating Chiriko, they've both moved on/continued on with their life. They're obviously gonna get together sooner or later, and there's been progress for them, although slower than expected. They're just taking it super slow, lol. They only really lack officially dating. Ponpon is like expected, lol.

The nice parts of the movie were parts like seeing how good friends they are now, even though it seems like they barely meet so it's a little odd. Seeing Menma's family having moved on etc.

But it really made me cringe at the lack of any progress in the movie. The girls basically saying casually they'd "eventually say something" was so ... come on... Awkward moment with Anaru wanting to confess (again) at a reunion meant to focus on Menma, obviously bound to fail. Don't know what she was thinking, god the fail.

The thing is Menma was what was kind of wrong with the group. While she bound them together she also made a tension within it. When Menma is still being too focused on there's always going to be that awkwardness of Jintan and Yukiatsu always thinking about her before the others. God...

My point is the movie really didn't show too much in terms of progress for half the key characters, and didn't progress their lives at all either. It almost literally served no purpose but to provide fanservice, which kind of cheapened its value to me. The worst part is it left me really frustrated, kind of like the series. After finishing the movie at first I was like "ok, whatever, LOL!", then I thought some more about it and realized "yup, this is why it was frustrating". And then I got a little withdrawals and it's so annoying to hope the movie was going to provide SOME progress in their lives but provide almost zero. MEH. Guess I kind of liked it despite all the negativity rant (it really wasn't that bad, I'm just too much of a fanboy and it was kind of bad. YES IT WAS TERRIBLE. On a serious note it wasn't very good due to the reasons mentioned above about progress blablal....)

Notice I'm not even talking about the flashbacks! A tl;dr I didn't mind them until sometime halfway through the movie, then I got really annoyed at they kept dragging out and I started to realize nothing REAL would happen in the movie as there would be too little time left. ----- SIGH ------
