You basically brought up all the major points we know about him in one post, lol. I wouldn't really know what to add at this point since I kinda agree with most of it already.

Worthy of note however should be that Escanor is seemingly not from Britania. Not sure if it is worth pointing out at this point but in regards to world building and the fact that the Commandment's tournament introduced more foreigners it could be vital to know about other countries in the future.

Other than that, yeah, I immediately assumed Rosa was his wetnurse. She seems very close to him and has an emotional attachment it would just fit right in. The different looks he has also made me wonder. Is he a royal bastard! Did the queen get pregnant from another man? Are his natural handsome looks part of his curse/miracle and come along with his powers?

It's all just speculation at this point. Him possibly destroying the kingdom in the future is not a far-fetched prophecy seeing how his Sunshine can destroy entire castles in a second when running unchecked. The calamity could have implied such a thing merely as an accident rather than him doing it on purpose, since the seer doesn't specify anything but ultimately it is all the same. He remains a threat to the kingdom. Plus his father commented on his appearance after he broke his brother's arm and we aren't shown anything. Probably because even as a small child, the same thing happens as does now - he bulges up into a gigantic behemoth and was probably a kid with huge bloated muscles. Grotesque and disgusting to his parents.

Rosa probably saw deeper beyond that and still cared for him, this trait and her similarity to Merlin likely made him fall for the sorceress since they sort of have that in common (albeit for different reasons).

Rhitta is still a huge mystery here but I suppose that she is related to whatever is attributed as his sin. His Gaiden will probably reveal it to us.
Did I? Lol sorry I got carried away there, I would also like to point something about Rosa and you might have seen it in the hangout, it's the mark she has on her fingers. It could be a tattoo, and I speculated it's the sun tattoo like the one in Escanor's buckle.

If so then she could have a relation to him in particular, and for me the possibility of her being his biological mother just went up (I saw that detail after I made my post in here).

Yep there's many things we don't know about him, Rosa, and even Rhitta, and I bet his sin might have something to do with the prophecy.

But are we really sure he's not from Britannia? I mean there are islands in Britain, for example the isle of Man, and there's even one very famous island in the Arthurian legends, and that is Avalon. If he's from there then that would be really cool, and I think Suzuki at some point should introduce us to it since
When Arthur dies he is taken there. And in general it's a place filled with magic.
So it's not far fetched to think that he could come from such a kingdom, and even so it doesn't change much in term of him having an ability, though I guess it's possible that notJapan could be different because of the whole East being different from the West trope. They could have Ki and whatnot.

If I were to speculate where Escanor's kingdom is located, it could be somewhere next to the sea obviously, if it's not an isle from Britannia then it could be the Northern part of France.

Yes I really do hope we get it soon, because other than Mel his case is quite peculiar and he's rather mysterious. We don't even know that much about his power, and I have a feeling even Merlin herself is still trying to figure out where it comes from, since such a power cannot be found in any other human or race.

France would be really interesting with the whole sun king theme (although, historically speaking that comes much later in recent history XD)

It would also make the mustache so legit haha

Fun fact: The Sun King is actually the name that Louis XIV, King of France, used to go by. He believed that the entire universe revolved around him and believed he stood higher than the church, as he was the man chosen by god. In other words, Escanor's past might share some similarities with this man as well as the Escanor from the arthurian legends!
We also have Monspiet and Derrierie, which could suggests that Demons are french as well or they were french knights turned into demons?

Yeah,it's possible escanor could be from another land since we now know there are different countries(thanks to nanashi)i think it would be great.

Just thinking. What if escanor's kingdom was the realm of the Fisher King?

Of course the curse hadn't been activated then, but it's possible that his brother is now the fisher King. (Perhaps chasing out escanor was the cause of the curse. It could also tie in with the sin he committed.)

Crackpot theory:
Escanor is the holy grail in human form.

Yeah my French history is pretty good, they taught us it and kept repeating the same stuff ad nauseum, each year we'd learn about the French revolution.:notrust

Anyway it wouldn't be too odd considering that the previous chapter referred to him as the "Proud Sun King Escanor".:lmao

And "Le Roi Soleil" gave a lot of importance to arts, and do you know that he invented ballet?
He also liked plays, in particular Molière's. And Escanor happens to be a poet.

Yup!
A lot of references from Nakaba's part, from France, somewhere i was not expecting him to pull and insert pieces of history from!

Ps: Loving the new profile pic, it is glorious!

Nah it's not surprising, the Arthurian legends were first "compiled" by a French author.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrétien_de_Troyes

And because of the common history shared between France and England.

True, i was just not expecting Nakaba to use French history... i thought he would base it more along the lines of myths and legends of england, scottland and ireland.

Another possible hint can be found in Escanor's armor's knee caps, which feature a celtic rune that represents wealth.
Because of that, and the fact it's gold, it could be reminiscent of Midas, the king who could make anything he touches into gold. That was more of a curse than anything else. Just thought that was interesting.

Well considering that the guy who wrote about them is French and don't forget that there are celtic people in France, more precisely in 'la Bretagne' which is French for "Britanny", then there's also Cath Palug whom Arthur is supposed to have fought in France.
Those legends are as important to the French than it is to the English, and the notion of borders back then wasn't strong.

Well this is all assuming that he really based him off Louis XIV, and not just used that title loosely, because well it fits Escanor's power.:XD

I honestly wonder what is going to happen next with what he just did though, i mean think about it... after having defeated both the commandments, we don't know what will happen to the tournament.

True, Nakaba changed a lot of designs since chapter 1. The sins general appearance (Gowther + Escanor), the weapons the sins use (Ban + Escanor), Diane's face (use to look more mature, but she was changed to becoming more childish as time progressed, the page where the shooting stars fly through the sky... that is probably the best showcase because you see Hendy, Dreyfus, Hauser and Griamore... but, their designs were later changed.
Overall, his design should not be that relevant anyway... i still think something is going to happen to his stache though... it will be cut off eventually and then we will get to see Escanor's face look really young for a 40 year old human for some reason!
Maybe something similar to Ban back in the Baste dungeon? That would be neat. :^_^
Nah I'm really starting to think that the mustache suits him. In some panels he looks devilishly handsome like this

Or from this week's chapter

I hope he doesn't get rid of it if it turns out Merlin doesn't like it. I would really hate that as a matter of fact. :XD
It adds a certain je ne sais quoi to his design and it makes him really stand out from the other characters. Plus we need more dudes with facial hair in the manga.:nod

I want to believe that the commandments didn't die, and that next chapter we could see everyone fight them. They could also be weakened which could help a certain two sins fight them (Diane and King). But if really what the end text said is true and that he obliterated them I'm not gonna complain.:XD

Silver's actions in this chapter give me the impression that he's going to make a move, so maybe it really is that this pseudo tournament is over, and more importantly Mel knew what Escanor was up to, and he didn't stop him which means he's ok with him attacking the demons.

His mustache does look good in some pages, but, in chapter 170 the panel in which he grabs Rhitta, his mustache looks so weird, it's almost comical :XD
But, yeah... if it gets cut off or he gets rid of it, then i bet he grows it back by the end of the manga... or maybe that will be a thing where we see him slowly but surely growing the mustache back and when it's fully grown to this point again, his confidence/power rises exponentially?
Or better yet, it turns out that his mustache is his power cap :XD

At this point I'm ok with the mustache, and once again I would absolutely hate it if he got rid of it because Merlin doesn't like it. He should be proud of it it's a nice mustache.:verily

Speaking of Merlin, or to be more precise Escalin, I think because of these chapters many think that Escalin could be a real thing, but to me those chapters just showed to me that it's doomed, that it won't happen. And here's why.
Escanor already accepts the idea that Merlin isn't the one who walks by his side, and that basically means that he accepts that she won't return his feelings. And once again Merlin's interest is purely scientific at this point. She can be seen as the one who inspires Escanor, because of the whole sun thing.
So to me there's a rather big chance it won't happen.

And another thing that is interesting from chapter 170 is that MS telling that Escanor's power is engraved in his genes...so does that mean that he comes from a clan that has a disposition towards using Sunshine? Mera says that there was no such human 3000 years ago,so maybe Escanor is some sort of hybrid, and just what other clan possesses such power? It might not mean much since this is after all MS, who are known for adding stuff that isn't there.
We're nowhere near understanding Escanor's power.

I doubt Merlin and escanor will be a thing.

She only has interest in him because he's one of a kind.

And he himself is not trying to be anything more with her.

He's fine with his unreciprocated feelings, and clearly doesn't expect anything more from her, so why would readers?

I doubt it has anything to do with genes. Genes would imply that it's a power that a clan has, but Merlin already said that none of the clans have anything to do with his power.

Lol you clearly don't know how fan work, and they pretty much ship everything and anyone. I just learned that Gowther x Hawk is a thing. :D
Well it's there in the translation, if it's in his genes then it could hint that he comes from a line that could possibly have that power, and one of his parents has, of course that would just give more fuel to the theory that Escanor's parents aren't his real parents.

To me Rosa is the prime suspect for being his real mother if that were the case.
...but I don't really expect manga or video games to use genetics accurately.
And I can confirm that the Japanese text also refers to genes, or to be more precise his "genetic makeup"

Yes, but genes in a fantasy medieval setting… You could simply use constitution or make-up.

Well, if Escalin doesn't happen... here's hoping for some sort of other romantic relationship with Escanor and someone else. I mean, i don't know of any other person who could be the 2nd person in this relationship at all! ;)
You already know my personal thoughts on the matter and how if Escalin doesn't work out, that i have a second pairing with him in mind which is pretty cool. I do wonder about this Rhitta though and if something to do with Escanor's power 3000 years ago, revolves around her... could the original holder of this person have loved Rhitta and is that why Rhitta is a maiden loved by the sun? Regardless of theories, we will likely find out more about her at some given point in time, however, i do wonder what her role will be in the plot, for the actual person the ST is named after.

As for the mustache it'd be great if they spoke about it and she was like "I'm don't like the mustache!" and he replied with "Well it is My mustache and i'll thank you to remember whose face it is on and who has the only say of whether or not it goes!"

Ps: Remember how Denzel's sword had a peculiar reflection in it in chapter 154? Could that be Rosa by chance? Or perhaps Rhitta?

I hope the mustache stays but I would have loved it even more if Nakaba had shown us the Escanor with long hair and beard like in that page spread at the start of part two of the manga. Maybe we will see that in some way yet but I hope not as part of a silly noon transformation. That entire trope of people growing longer hair or whatever when they get their special power-up is so overdone that it is all but a meme. Escanor should maintain his otherwise human nature for as long as possible, he is enough a genetic freak as it is. In fact all of the Sins are.
