I can buy the theory that Natsu's arm reacted to a magic type and that Zeref taught the 12 magic (it's a possibility as to why they're so strong)... but it's more believable that his arm reacted to MP levels because that is what Hiro was portraying at that moment.

Laxus could be below Spriggan level in MP, or even, or above. No one else has commented on Laxus being magically strong yet they have about the shields who apparently ooze immense MP passively (while Gray/Lucy had to activate magic for Makarov to sense anything). This I put down to plot device - Hiro wants to hype the power of the 12. There could be other reasons why Laxus' MP wasn't perceived as high, like the MBP's blocking his aura or something... I don't think it matters anyway as I view MP sensing as a plot device, and that MP isn't the only factor in a fight.

Natsu shivered in shock/fear right here...

Natsu wanted to fight Brandish after this after seeing Mest on the ground hurt. It doesn't pardon his initial shock at her MP though.

Team Natsu never really fought Ajeel, they were escaping. I think Ajeel was impressed with Gray, Natsu and Laxus' abilities, particularly here I think he's referring to all 3 (maybe Erza/Lucy as well but they did the least). Ajeel wasn't really dominated, because really he didn't get pushed by Natsu, it was a brief moment where neither did anything close to full power. Ajeel even powers up after Natsu hits him, so everything after that I presume is a step up. Laxus is the only one that really dominates Ajeel to the point where August steps in - but even that is a very brief exchange and Laxus isn't confronting Ajeel.

I think Mashima set Makarov as device to make Spriggans look more intimidating and to make this arc look more difficult "stage" than previous one (yea of course it is). I view it as Makarov's parental instinct to protect his children. After all he didn't have any idea about his children's training during his one year negotiation. The same goes for Oba babasama when she talked about Gods of Ishgal. It just was used for hype. Yet the said hype has not been delivered. Excluding Serena imo.

I Think You are overestimating Bacchus Here.Bacchus wouldn't stand a Chance against S Class Or S Class Level Mages of Fairytail like Juvia and even DF Wendy.Sure He was caught off guard But Should he be defeated by just one punch by Sting.I Will Give You One Example.Ajeel was distracted and Erza managed to land a Fatal Blow on Him.Still after That He nearly killed Erza.If Bacchus was that Strong and had Durability He Would not have been One Shotted by a Punch. If It had been White Dragon's Roar It could have been said.

That Theory doesn't work Completely.Natsu's Hand didn't react To laxus. Now We know laxus was stronger than Ajeel or Wahl.My Personal Theory is That Zeref had Personally Trained The Spriggans and They have Some Residual amount of Zeref's Magic. That's Why Igneel's Power Reacted To Them. The Confrontation between Natsu and Ajeel was short.I Find No Panel where Natsu was afraid on seeing Brandish. He even wanted to Fight Brandish and Wiki states That Too.Team Natsu were escaping and I believe Natsu was holding back His Power.InThat Confrontation Natsu had clearly dominated Ajeel. He even burnt The Ant Pit and Ajeel Looked Shocked.
You are very wrong there. Erza is an s class Mage and she fought with Bacchus more than once did Erza beat his ass. It would be a stalemate every time. That's why Erza was supposed to fight him during the gmg to get a decisive winner, but the one who set the fight up misunderstood and put Elfman instead. Juvia is not at the level of the s class mages. Erza managed to hit Ajeel because no sword is supposed to be able to cut him, and he didn't even try to block. I think you mean finishing blow, not fatal blow because if it were fatal Ajeel would be dead. And no I don't think Erza was going for the finish from the start. This wasn't that kind of fight. The times when Bacchus and Mira were caught off guard it was a tournament or test, can get competitive, but not that kind of serious where one is trying to murder the other. Big difference from a fight just to see who is stronger and a war fighting to the death. And not every swing from Erza is a finishing blow.

Please explain how Elfman and Evergreen were so helpless to Mira during the gmg. It was so one sided even though Elfman only has power, his punch was stopped by Mira so easily. The difference was so huge if you remeber. Then Evergreen shocks Mira by saying her and Elfman are getting married. That's how they beat her. When the others found out they couldn't believe it, none of them could. When they asked Mira later she said they caught her off guard. So that proves getting caught off guard can make a big difference.

That's not any different from the times Bacchus was caught. How does someone who is an s class Mage never lose or win against Erza, Erza who is one of the best? Same with Mira who had a friendly rivalry with Erza. Mira and Bacchus were caught off guard. If other guilds have kept up their training they should still be able to match ft rivals. Don't pull an Axiomus, where you correct me of what happened in the story which you did that Minerva also summoned a Yakima war god, and then think you can come after me from thread to thread. It proves nothing good on your part. But I'd gladly dabate and show how your reasoning is off. Until you can explain how Mira was also beaten by mages who were far weaker than her, there's nothing to support that Bacchus is weak for the same reason why he and Mira lost. This wasn't because of hax or bad matchup due to one being immune to a certain element. Both Erza and Bacchus straight up use physical abilities and skills, enhanced and complemented with the magic they use. Unless you consider Erza weak, which is far off from truth.

I didn't mention about Mira So I will not Speak about it.
Juvia was Selected For The S Class Examination. So She has The Ability To Be S Class Mage. That's Why I Mentioned S Or S Class Level Mages.
My Only point Was Bacchus is not that Strong. He was just One Shotted by a Simple Punch.Sting even didn't use an Attack He would not have been defeated that easily(If He had durabilty and Strength).Ichiya had Soloed Bacchus + One Mage(I don't Remember His Name). You can't dismiss That Comedic as Ichiya had defeated Them using Physical Powers Which He had got from Perfume.True Erza and Bacchus couldn't defeat one another but That was long Time ago.In Tenrou Natsu couldn't stand against Bluenote. But After The Timeskip He One Shotted Him.So Power Level at The Beginning of The Series don't Factor Here.So Not Every Time Being Caught Off Guard Means Defeat.Fairytail Mages has Surpassed Other Guild Mages. It will depend Though Juvia or others should be behind Sting or Other Higher Mages. And Ajeel is a glaring instance Where You will not lose even if You are caught Off guard. If You don't agree To My Opinion Fine That's Your Opinion.

You didn't bring up Mira, but she is proof that the same thing happened to her. I brought it up because she is much stronger than Elman and Ecergreen combined, making easy work of them, and when caught off guard was beaten. That alone should be evidence that Bacchus getting beaten by weaker mages is possible. Or are you gonna question Mira's durability too. Juvia, Cana, Mest, Elfman were all selected to possibly become an s class Mage. Makarov thought they were the most qualified of ft mages, but it doesn't mean they had s class power, which at the time was proven that they aren't on the same level.

I know you said I'm overestimating Bacchus, so I gave supporting info why I think he is strong. This is a power ranking thread. It's what people argue about most, every time a new chapter comes out after or during a fight, many argue about it in the spoiler thread. We all have favorites and can sometimes be biased and overestimate or characters This is where everyone gives their take and answers opposing questions to prove a point. We want to make sense of things. There was a time that some thought the spriggan are supposed to beat Ishgar mages. There are still some now. Expect disagreement here and if you have evidence to support your thoughts, and overcome the doubters with real evidence then it's likey true. I used to think Erza was stronger than Laxus, until Laxus smashed Wahl. Kagura and Erza are my favorite characters. Usually I like Kagura more.

Not expecting an attack to land and getting caught off guard are two different things. It's not often a Mage leaves untouched or damaged in a fight. They get hit, not because they were off guard, but didn't expect attacks to be this strong, fast, or lacked skills or something else. Cobra always hit his opponents because he can hear what they're thinking, and opponents don't see it coming or didn't expect it, but it's not an off guard moment. When Mira heard Evergreen say they were getting married Mira was not thinking of the fight at all. When Ichiya transformed, he said some odd stuff posing, very awkward, which completely surprised Bacchus. Didn't Juvia knock Lyon out while jumping down on him? Lyon was shocked and happy at the same time for seeing her panties. For Bacchus he looked up and suddenly saw Sting, surprised and got knocked out. If you want to debate about power ranking, you need supporting information and evidence. This is the place where it gets a bit rough. But anytime this sort of thing was talked about in any thread it would usually be like this anyway. Juvia is strong and underrated, but I just don't know where to put her right now. Also I'm not so sure ft mages have far surpassed other guilds. Maybe the older mages, but we still haven't seen other guild members fight yet. Kagura did well to block Dimaria, but the whole time freezing crap was used after. Lyon made a giant foot to stomp the soldiers, proving his power increased for making one that big. So I'm not sure other guilds were surpassed further. Bacchus was as strong as Erza before, but I have a feeling he hasn't been sitting on his butt all this time. That cannot be proven. We'll see soon enough. Hopefully.

@Crimson Ice The date doesn't matter. You got it right. No confusion on your part. I'd still put Bacchus above the ds except Laxus even today. Both Sting and Ichiya did one shot Bacchus but both times he was caught off guard. It was a comedic fight against Ichiya when he gave an odd pose that got Bacchus to freeze thinking wtf. Didn't Mira get caught off guard in Tenrou when Elfman and Evergreen said they were getting married? Against Sting, Bacchus was taken out in one hit, but was caught off guard from that divebombing attack from behind. He did look back and saw sting looking surprised again.
Woooow, even if they both caught him off guard what has Baachus to grant him superiority over Sting, Rouge, Gray, Natsu and Gajeel? I'll tell you what, nothing.

Bacchus durability could possibly be in question. Although when Mira was caught off guard by Elfman and Evergreen she was also defeated. If Mira had her guard up she'd have taken them easily. Elfman was shaking putting all his strength in his punch, while she easily stopped his fist. Her durability is at a true s class level. So I'm guessing because Mira and Bacchus had similar situations, Bacchus should have real s class toughness also. He and Erza have encountered one another and fought many times and neither one has ever won. He is a martial artist, which was a good combination for the magic he uses. His magic is in his palms. Elfman is not as good as Natsu and the others, having good strength, but lacking speed and skills. I think if I remember it right Bacchus never got hit by Elfman once. Bacchus only lost because he exhausted himself. But he was smashing Elfman's shell so hard that his own armor was crumbling.

Only proving my point. Bacchus lost to Elfmsn

Bacchus has done nothing to earn him such a high spot, he drawed against seemingly Erza from 7 years ago, someone who would got fodderized by the current mages, heck the likes of Natsu and Erza 7 years ago are shit tier, Max was on base Natsu level after he came back fresh from Tenrou. While the only other thing he has done is lose to Elfman, Bacchus being that high is crazy to say the least.

As I've said, Bacchus fought Erza many times with no winner. It was Erza that was out for 7 years, not Bacchus. Bacchus was probably in the same league as Erza before and after the Tenrou arc. Erza has proven to be stronger than those ds you mentioned, meaning Bacchus is too if he and Erza are even. Same as Jellal, I always considered him in the same league as Laxus and he also didn't seem to get stronger during the 7 year skip. Any time Natsu is using dragon force he is the strongest mage, defeating Jellal, Laxus, and would have destroyed Mard Geer if he was able to sustain it. Probably Greay too with his demonforce.

Kagura is in the same boat as Bacchus. I doubt during the year skip, Erza has distanced herself from Kagura when it comes to physical or magical power. Like I said IF Bacchus hasn't been sitting on his ass all this time and is still keeping up with everyone he should still be up there with his fellow s class mages. "We'll find out soon enough. Hopefully." Thats my prediction.

Really, you consider Elfman's win over Bacchus legit? Elfman did not land any hit on Bacchus. Elfman was outclassed and was being played around with and could barely stand. Bacchus wanted to take the challenge and see if his offense can break Elfman's hard shell. If he wanted he'd have waited for Elfman to stop being curled up and wait for him to strike so that Bacchus could counter him around his body where there were no scales, no armor. But since he knew he could easily do that he just wanted to test his attacks if it can break through the lizard armor. There was no sincere will, on Bacchus's end, to have tried everything he had to win. He already knew he'd win and made it a game instead and only fell from exhaustion. If he was always that stupid to knock himself out from exhaustion when fighting Erza there would not have been any problem with Erza defeating him. We've only seen one fight for him. If there was some other guy, who WAS NOT immune to lightning, that Laxus fought and always ended in a draw, you'd credit that guy for being strong too. That's more than enough to gauge the guy's strength.

Time has gone by and things changed, but we won't know where Bacchus stands in this arc until he actually does something. But if he, like Kagura have both grown in strength as much as ft mages then they should still be better then everyone else, every non s class.

Again Erza back then is shit tier now, it was impressive pre skip but not now. While I highly doubt Bacchis is in Tenrou's Erza boat, her magic power was being boost by the Island not to mention they seemed to of fight before the series took place. While the discussion of Erza being stronger than those DS now is debatable but that's not even the point, Bacchus has clearly not kept up with Erza and Erza over took him badly in 3 months after he gained an 7 years gap on him. Jellal and Laxus aren't comparable, Jellal never lost to someone much weaker than Laxus and currently Laxus should be much stronger anyway. The side character's growth rate aren't going o be as high as the main cast's, the GMG arc made this bvious. While it's obvious Jellal got stronger during the 7 years skip, just not as much as you would think or 7 years.

Kagura is in the same boat as Bacchus. I doubt during the year skip, Erza has distanced herself from Kagura when it comes to physical or magical power. Kagura isn't, she unlike Bacchus was actually close to Erza in power level, while Kagura overall seems like shells grow more than Bacchus seeing as she's an much more prominent character and she kept up with Erza when fodderizing Neinheart's captains.

It makes it even worse, Elfman couldn't even land a single blow on Bacchus while he simply failed to shatter Elfman's defense, if Bacchus was as strong as you preached he would of mauled Elfman rgeardless of his defense. Bacchus done that because he wanted to see if he could bust his defense, Erza most likely didn't fight like that against him so the comparison is irrelevant. Any of the people you named Bacchus being stronger would of beat Elfman regardless if he had his defense up.

Time has gone by and things changed, but we won't know where Bacchus stands in this arc until he actually does something. But if he, like Kagura have both grown in strength as much as ft mages then they should still be better then everyone else, every non s class.

Your only real claim for Bacchus being that strong is being able to fight Erza 7 years ago, even though it's obvious Erza has left this man in the dust.

I have never been as impressed by Bacchus as you are as i just don't think the whole he fought erza and there was no winner thing holds up well seeing as how it was 7 years later, He lost to Elfman despite the fact that i will agree with you that i consider him stronger than Elfman, Ichiya when he also was fighting with Rocker though he was also distracted by Ichiya's face lol and finally by Sting though he was taken off guard. Now though all of his fights had some extra factor to them i believe we have to ask ourselves would Erza have fallen for this stuff? is her durability that low? These are questions that i believe come with an obvious answer and that is that Erza would not have lost to Elfman,Ichiya or Sting in those ways partially cause she is from Fairy tail and they all have higher durability due to plot but also cause she is simply a better fighter than that as has been shown in who she has defeated in the many arcs in Fairy tail. I do agree though that Bacchus is underestimated imo and is easily the only somewhat important member of Quatro Cerberus I also do agree that we cannot really know until he fights so it's all up in the air.

Shit tier? Maybe, maybe not. Her fight was crap anyway. She gets her energy sucked out until Marin gets stomped by Lucy, Ajeel gets wounded, hides in his sand storm, launches some raining sand dagger attack, and then is holding Erza by the throat ready to cut her head off. The cannon hits and Erza finishes the fight. That is crap. Where the ds stand right now we don't know. Making claims that Erza has surpassed Bacchus during the magic games, yet no proof or reasoning behind it. And don't give me that Sting attack. Fucking Mira was owning Elfman too until she was caught off guard.

7 years later and it was Baccus who had a chance to really power up. What makes you believe Erza disappearing and reappearing 7 years later, no training has improved from doing anything from those 7 years?

Also Jellal got stronger is what you guys are saying for having beaten the seis during the Tartaros arc. But after the time skip, Jellal was trying to defeat Jura and wasn't doing too well. He was about to resort to his sema. Was testing Jura at first then was about to give his final attack. Laxus did beat Jura. How strong Jellal got seems little considering he was up there with any s class Mage prior to 7 year skip

Simple because from what i read she received her second origin i will say however that part with Ultear releasing there second origin was a bit vague cause Erza was not in pain like the other's so perhaps she already had second origin, i doubt it but it's possible but even if she did already have it she never released it until she fought Minerva that was more than enough imo to put her far ahead of Bacchus.

Against Minerva, Erza used a nakagami armor and smashed Minerva. How does that relate to Bacchus or prove she has surpassed him? Sure second origin was there for ft mages, but I'd say that was to compensate for the time they were gone. While everyone else didn't seem to get stronger and if they did it wasn't by much, which the second origin helped for the bit of boost others gained during the 7 years. Young mages like Sting and Rogue, all of Sabertooth rose up during the time, and Jura going up the ws ranking also. I don't remember in detail but didn't the time ft mages go into celestial world reduce all their possible time for training. Correct me if I'm wrong. Mystogan and Jellal are counter parts from different worlds. I'd rank them both the same as they are the same. Both Jellal and Laxus were likey very close in power, both should have defeated Natsu, but were defeated from dragonforce. I always considered them good rivals. After the 7 years Jellal had to power up, he should have far surpassed Laxus. But that wasn't the case. Both fought Jura, and I'm sure if Jellal gave his all would have beaten him also, like Laxus did.

During the 7 year skip I'd say it was peaceful and the mages rivaling ft' strong mages haven't improved by much. Guys like Sting and Rogue got older and rose up to make it a rivalry but feel short.

I don't think there is much point going back and forth I believe Erza has shown more than enough to place her ahead of Bacchus and considering Hiro has given him so little feats I believe he seems to be portraying it that way too. While I can see your point on second origin being a plot device to get them on par with the other mages I honestly don't even think there is enough proof to say he was as powerful as her back than all that was said is they fought and that there was never any winner to me we don't know the circumstances behind when they fought or even how serious it was. All I know is if anything else Nakagami armor would wreck Bacchus imo and I don't even think she would need that but who knows that's just my view. Btw I like the Metal bat profile pic I love Onepunchman.

Well if you base it all on feats Bacchus never did win a fight that we've seen. Like I said we will see how well he does, or if him being evenly matched with Erza is nothing more than the past. But saying Erza never defeated him and that we don't know the circumstances might be a bit off. Igneel couldn't kill END, not because of lacking the ability to do it. I think Bacchus fight with Elfman in the anime gave enough to show he is very skilled. If you forget all the off guard times, you'd only see him as another strong s class Mage. No one discredits Mira for having lost to Elfman. Bacchus gets caught off guard and all of the sudden he is shit? Even Erza acknowledged his strength. Gave no excuses. There can only be so any excuses one can make. Bacchus does come off as a joke, but personality and getting caught should not determine their strength. Erza made it clear he is strong. If Bacchus is no longer strong then he is no longer strong. I was not impressed by him, I'm just looking at the facts and seeing the likely possibilities. Even if he is still on Erza's level people can still argue that Erza is weak also.

The arc hasn't shown enough yet to determine anything except that Laxus is strong.

Yo we are cool. You aren't a stalker. I get your point. It's very likey that Bacchus is nothing anymore. All I'm saying is that it's possible he is still relevant.

yeah fair enough I agree who know we're all guessing anyways, I am hoping we even see Bacchus at this point every other guild is shown but them but it will probably happen eventually.

Yes shit tier Natsu and Erza by the Phantom arc were about the same level, Max was easily besting Natsu who had just gotten back from Tenrou and Max is currently shit tier. I don't know what most of the post is about but I will address the last part. I have no evidence? Bacchus LOST TO Elfman, I don't care if he played along with Elfman game and tried to break his defence, Bacchus didn't have the offensive power or stamina to break through Elfman's defense, it blatantly obvious that Bacchus isn't on Erza's level no more, just because he fought her 7 years ago doesn't justify him being that strong now.
