To be honest, Acnologia is far above SS-class. I'm thinking Gildarts might've just encountered Acnologia instead of the mission being about him. Many characters in FT are / already surpassed S-class.
No, you and many others don't seem to understand. The bar for being S-Class increases as the S-Class position gets harder or the current S-Class mages get stronger. What was S-Class a long time ago is not the same now. Otherwise, Max should be one by now. So stop getting fixated on that idea. The point of having S-Class is for the regular members to be distinguished from elite members. So if the whole guild becomes stronger, the benchmark to become one also gets higher. Because mages like Erza and Mira got stronger, then Freed is still behind. Only someone like Natsu and Gray have surpassed Erza so they are the ones with the most chance of becoming S-Class. Really, this is not that hard to understand like some people make it to be.

Ah, I didn't think of it that way (well I didn't read previous posts either :P). Yeah, I gotta agree. At this point, I think S-class mage candidates would be : Natsu, Gray, Gajeel, Wendy and maybe Lucy.

This panel is no different from someone like Erza commenting on other people's strengths, like Pantherlily. Does that mean he is a high tier wizard in FT?
Sorry, but that's a new level of reaching, lmao. Your panel of Erza complimenting Lily can't be compared to @Selly 's manga panels, since Erza practically stated outright that Freed had explicit S-class potential.

Your panels just have Erza complimenting Lily's swordsmanship and is not indicative nor implying of any S-class qualifications. You can't use that for your defense, lmao.

So stop twisting my words.
Why do you use this a lot? But then, i digress...

You don't need to post it again. I already saw it but I ignored for certain reasons. Because I am the type who goes by feats and not hype. If Freed's feats would show that he is S-Class Level like those words, then I would agree but that is not how it works. Like I said, Feats are the primary source for fairly ranking characters. Hype is always secondary.

This panel is no different from someone like Erza commenting on other people's strengths, like Pantherlily. Does that mean he is a high tier wizard in FT?
Goddammit this is getting so ridicoulous. Just accept the fact that Freed IS S-Class level, has been FROM THE START.

This panel IS different. Erza told Freed directly that he has the skill AND could handle S-rank missions. Here she simply acknowledges Pantherlily's skills.

And I'm the one ignoring the manga? While I ignored hype, you are ignoring feats. Mirajane wasn't going to lose against Freed nor was she close to. She easily took him even mental pain as she saw her brother and her guild mates tortured. Don't even compare the two for your own benefit, because they're totally different.
I really have the feeling you are ignoring everything I state and prove on purpose. I never said that Freed won or would have won against Mirajane. I said that he managed a take down on her during the hand-to-hand combat part in mid-air, proving his expert hand-to-hand combat skills in his demonic mode. And you say don't compare because they are different? Lmfao then we couldn't compare ANYONE.

Levy is not S-Class level. That is so absurd. Sure, as an S-Class, you need intelligence. But like I said, you also need a certain degree of power too and I would rank this as one of the more important ones especially since that is the trend that we see among the S-Class in Fairy Tail. Something that Levy and Freed are incapable of. If Levy cannot even beat Kawazu and Yomazu, what makes you think she could handle an S-Class mission. We already know that the highest of S-Class missions [SS-Class] is dealing with Acnologia. So stop twisting my words.
Don't drag Levy into this now and degrade her. She may not be the strongest concerning strength or magic but she has the intelligence and wit. Apparently she COULD have gained the S-Class title, otherwise she would not have been chosen for the trial. No, I don't see her as a typical candidate either but it's a fact that Makarov chose her for the trials. Period.

You are the one constantly twisting my words. I proved how much magical power Freed has and it must be an enormous amount. He has the power, he has the skill, he has the versatility and intelligence. He is one hell of a dangerous opponent if he would get serious, something I still hope Mashima will give him the chance too again, and that's that.

Fine, you want feats from the current arc that proves Laxus has low intelligence? You are the one who brought up "in general" so don't blame me for it. Here:

Freed had the choice to either dispel his runes or die right then and there. So what did Freed choose? To live and at least have a chance to defeat Wahl's prototype like he did at the end. What did Laxus do? He blew up at the fact that Freed chose to let go of the shield. If Laxus isn't there at the scene, he shouldn't interfere and tell Freed what to do. It's that simple. Freed would have died had he stood still. You're totally twisting my words at this point. All I said was that Laxus doesn't think straight which he doesn't. Just look at his temper. Laxus is the type who always jumps the gun whether it is his words or action. It is known that this will eventually lead to you saying or doing something that is not so bright.
Wait, so your using temper as a reason why Laxus can't think straight. Wow. Just wow...:epicfacepalm I guess this means that Erza and Makarov can never think straight because of their tempers, right?

Laxus wasn't upset at Freed in the panels you showed. He was on edge because of the situation they were in. In Laxus's head he wanted Freed to continue using his runes to protect the West while he rushes over there and covers for Freed by taking care of Wahl. There's nothing wrong with that thinking at all. Him being a little on edge doesn't show that he can't think straight. Try again with a better example.

Also, you keep ignoring the example I'm giving you that clearly shows that Laxus can think straight. Laxus was able to stop Wahl's attack (etherion) and cure himself at the same time while in a fatal position. Not only was he thinking straight, he was also thinking ahead. If you keep ignoring this example then I won't continue this debate.:mono

Do you actually think that Laxus is still some douche who doesn't give a rat's ass about his comrades, despite numerous chapters of character development that contradicts such?

Again, you are misreading the panels and the chronological events. In that very page you posted, you mentioned that Laxus blew up when Freed let go of the runes.

Thing is - you're misconstruing Laxus's reaction. Of course, Laxus would be alarmed that the runes disappeared - the entire point was to protect Magnolia and consequently, Fairy Heart.

What you selectively ignored were the next panels. You see, Laxus has no idea what was happening there, since he's at HQ. He doesn't have any idea that Freed is about to get roasted (which was understandably the reason why Freed temporarily let go). Of course, Laxus's knee-jerk reaction was to have Freed maintain the runes, since it's Freed's duty to provide such a defense.

If Laxus knew about Freed's real condition of being about to meet his demise, would you think that Laxus would still have Freed stay?

Of course, not. You'll see that in the next panels. Laxus then asks "what the hell is your status?" Cause, you know, Laxus finally realizes something's amiss and there's something urgently wrong that made Freed drop the runes. That's why Laxus immediately offered back-up.

If anything, those panels prove Laxus's intelligence and intuition were up to par since he deduced something was wrong.

In regards to Laxus and Natsu having lower intelligence than other powerhouses, i agree to a small degree, but sometimes charaters with overwhelming power dont need to worry about being smart a few examples

Majin Buu - dumb as shit, also a beast
Weeble - dumb as shit, as powerful as prime whitebeard
Zaraki Kenpachi - not dumb, but doesnt think about strategy outside of using brute force
And many more.

Sometimes absolute power destroys yhe most well thought out battle plan.

Give me an example of when people like Erza, Mirajane, Gildarts, Gajeel or any other powerhouse for that matter used intelligence and strategy in a fight on the level of what Laxus used against Wahl and give me an example of them putting together a plan on the level of the fighting festival............ good luck.

Im sorry, i dont understand what your trying to say. I was just saying that massive power can trump the most well thought out strategy. I'm just saying that a super smart mage can plan and plan and plan, but it wont mean shit if Laxus is casually nuking the shit out of them with nuke level attacks.

It seems like your trying to argue with me about making the same point, unless im mistaken and reading what you are saying wrong

If your replying to me saying Laxus has low intellegence, im homestly not calling him stupid. I like laxus, check out my name! Lol just a more feminine version of his name. Im just saying when it come to power vs smarts, laxus and Natsu are definitely the over whelm opponents with straight power over a 12 step plan.

Laxus in FF is a prime example. HE WAS GOING TO USE FAIRY LAW!!!! lol i cant think of a more dominating over powered spell. Despite it working or not.

Again, you're twisting my words. Show me a quote in which I said Pantherlily is qualified for S-Class. Obviously not. The point of that panel was not to say that Pantherlily was S-Class level. It was to show that character statements don't really have any meaning if not proven with feats. Erza made a remark on Pantherlily's skills but is he that strong? Not really. Erza can praise him in combat, but I would label him as any average, decent mage. If Freed showed power on the level of someone like Laxus, then yes, I would agree he is S-Class material. So far, his fights are disappointing though. I ask you not to twist my words a lot because you clearly aren't reading your own post. In other words, you unknowingly try to change the meaning of my post to make it look like I hate that character.

Do you actually think that Laxus is still some douche who doesn't give a rat's ass about his comrades, despite numerous chapters of character development that contradicts such?

This is what I mean. When did I hint or refer to Laxus as such names? You're using the points I make to make me look like the aggressor here. All I said was that Laxus jumped the gun when he yelled into Warren's ear to try and stop Freed from dispelling his runes. Nothing about that is a lie. A person who is somewhat logical would ask "What is your condition/status over there? Why is the shield disappearing?". You may say that I am misinterpreting the panels, but I don't see how my point here is wrong. Laxus just didn't quite get it.

Exactly, that is my point. Laxus was at Fairy Tail's Guild Hall and had no idea what was happening. So why did he need to come up with conclusions about Freed when he knows nothing about it? Yes, Laxus had a reaction that everyone would to a certain degree, but it could have been more sensible and understanding than illogically blowing up. I'm not saying that Laxus should have let Freed die, that is missing the point of my post. None of these panels would prove Laxus' intelligence because it wasn't intuition that caused him to react like you claim, it was pure sight and sensing. Laxus saw the shield being dispelled and he could sense something was wrong. Nothing smart about that. I would just call it impulse. Now if Laxus saw the shield disappearing, didn't understand why, and did nothing about it, then that would actually be used against him in terms of intelligence.

Goddammit this is getting so ridicoulous. Just accept the fact that Freed IS S-Class level, has been FROM THE START.

Why do I have to accept Freed as S-Class level? It is my opinion. You have your own. Freed has shown nothing on the level of an S-Class. Just because Ur was named Wizard Saint Level, doesn't mean she is. Just because Erza was told that she has powers similar to that of a Wizard Saint, doesn't mean she is. Just because Laxus and Mystogan were called Fairy Tail's Strongest Mage, doesn't mean they are. You get my point?

I can choose what I want to ignore. It doesn't mean I don't read your post. I just choose not to mention it because it doesn't seem like we're on the same page at all. When I said that you cannot compare Freed and Mirajane because they are different, I am talking about their power levels. Freed is no match for Mirajane whatsoever. It doesn't matter whether he lasted for 1 minute against her or not. In the end, he lost.

I don't hate on any character including Levy. This means I would never try to degrade her or drag her into this. In fact, I was simply replying to another user who used her as an example. Sure, Levy is a minor character, but how would I benefit by trying to bash her? I wouldn't so that is why I don't do that. But just to reply to your post, I am very confident that Levy wouldn't have been S-Class even if the promotion trials continued on. The reason why Master Makarov picked her was because he needed more candidates and that she was the next one in line.

Wait, so your using temper as a reason why Laxus can't think straight. Wow. Just wow...:epicfacepalm I guess this means that Erza and Makarov can never think straight because of their tempers, right?

No, Erza and Makarov are very self-composed mages. Now you're just twisting what happened so that it benefits you. Being on edge most definitely implies that you're not thinking straight. One who gets worked up over things most likely has their mind running crazy which is pretty much not thinking straight. Sure, go ahead and use the same example you keep using to prove Laxus is intelligent, but I already discussed that. All I'm saying is that Laxus is not intelligent like you're painting him to be.

Lol I know this has nothing to do with our debate, but I find it interesting that almost every time you respond to someone, you're always saying something about them "twisting what happened" or them "twisting your words around".

You're spouting out the same crap that @Beefcakes and I just disproved... Why?:cookiestare Being on edge =/= letting your anger control your decisions. Laxus was still able to think straight in the Thunder legion vs Wahl situation, so stop trying to use it to show that Laxus is an idiot and can't think straight. My Wahl example was proof that Laxus can think straight and ahead, not proof that his intelligence is off the charts. I want you to show me examples of current Laxus doing something stupid, not examples of when he's a little on edge.

I'm not painting Laxus out to be Einstein, I'm just refuting your desperate attempts to make Laxus look like an idiot.

...so stop trying to use it to show that Laxus is an idiot and can't think straight.
When did I say such a thing? You use this sentence to make it seem like I am against Laxus and everything he does when I already said that Laxus is powerful. Once again, do you want me to say Laxus is perfect? That he excels in every stat like attack, defense, speed, intelligence, and versatility compared to everyone else? All I did was give my reasons for why I think Laxus has low intelligence especially when analyzing the other S-Class characters like Erza, Mirajane, Gildarts, etc.

I can name many other feats that Laxus has done that is not considered bright at all but you'll end up denying it. For example, Laxus criticizes Natsu for jumping the gun and being a hot-head because he wants to fight Zeref...

Ironic, right? The same guy who criticizes Natsu does the exact same thing...

You can say that Natsu's move was not smart because he is going up against a strong mage like Zeref but Laxus is essentially picking a fight with someone who he knows is a direct counter to him.

I'm saying that Natsu has low intelligence because that's the way Hiro consistently portrays him for comedic purposes.
So by your logic, Natsu has low intelligence because he is used for comedic purposes? And Laxus?

Really, I can go on all day if you want. But you should get the point by now.

This is one of the worst posts I've seen in my entire life. I laughed through most of it at the sheer....... you know what let's get onto debating post.
The reason I keep saying that you are twisting my words is because you are... In fact, just read your post again and you can clearly see what I mean.

Your replies are clearly shown to be making Laxus out to have low intelligence, your bias has reached another level, especially when you think Gildarts has more intelligence, Erza has been shown to have extremely bad grammer as seen here...... really doesn't help with her intelligence.
When the hell has Mira shown high intelligence?
Since your so adamant that they're smarter then Laxus, I want you to bring me a battle feat/strategy that they used on the level that Laxus used against Wahl and I want you to bring me a plan that they put together on the level and scale of the fighting festival. Good luck, you're going to need it.

Regarding the Laxus/Natsu comparison, I'm going to say this, he followed the first's orders to go south and face Wahl, Natsu ran off without saying anything to anyone and without anyones consent, that's why he called him a hot head. Did Laxus charge out of the guild and head south to face Wahl by himself? Did he even leave the guild to attack the Wahl bot? No. Because he listened to Freed, who told him not to come, he actually listens to people, so this comparison is invalid.
You can say that Natsu's move was not smart because he is going up against a strong mage like Zeref but Laxus is essentially picking a fight with someone who he knows is a direct counter to him.
His plan was to get the magical barrier particles out of his body using Wahl's magical barrier nullification skills, that was one of the major reasons why he went to fight Wahl, the other was vengeance. If you go and say that he had no way of knowing that Wahl could nullify barrier particles, then I can say that he had no way of knowing Wahl was a direct counter to him. If you say that Freed probably told him, then I can say that Freed probably told him that Wahl nullified his barrier easily, providing Laxus with the information to come up with his plan and then that would just make Laxus look even smarter............

So by your logic, Natsu has low intelligence because he is used for comedic purposes? And Laxus?

Really, I can go on all day if you want. But you should get the point by now.
What is this supposed to mean? Seriously. Why have you provided this panel? What does this have to do with intelligence? All this does is make Erza look kinda stupid.
Legitimately dude, I honestly have no idea what your trying to say with this post.

I think Lucy Natsu Gray Freed Gajeel can be s class mage easy. Juvia and Wendy hmm i dont think so now but if Juvia is in rage mode she is scary and Wendy has Df so i dont know.
If Lucy was a S-Class mage then Wendy would be a SS-Class mage.
DF Wendy >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Lucy.

Well, this is ridiculous. I'm not going to even try anymore. I know I can prove my points with canon material, I tried to reason but nope, this is too ridiculous. Freed is S-Class and one of the most powerful mages FT has, period.

Laxus is far from being dumb. Period.

The reason I keep saying that you are twisting my words is because you are... In fact, just read your post again and you can clearly see what I mean.
Wow. Nice job on responding to 10 percent of my post that wasn't meant to be taken seriously and ignoring the other 90 percent that disproves your argument....

You don't have to say it word for word since your argument implies it. Just because I'm saying Laxus doesn't have low intelligence doesn't mean I think he's perfect. I never said that he excels in intelligience. It's just that you simply downplay his intelligience by saying he can't think straight. When has Mira shown more intelligence than Laxus?

I can name many other feats that Laxus has done that is not considered bright at all but you'll end up denying it.
Let me guess. All these other feats of Laxus doing something not so bright are from the FF arc, right? lol

Laxus went to the South with a fairly powerful group under the First's order while Natsu charged Zeref and a million other soldiers alone of his own accord. How you find these two situations comparable is beyond me.This is by far your most desperate attempt to downplay Laxus's intelligence (and that's saying a lot).

When did Laxus know that Wahl was immune to lightning before hand? If he did then he wouldn't he have used red lightning from the start? Even if he did know, you can't use that as a reason why he can't think straight. Erza knew that Ajeel was immune to her swords yet she went and fought him on her own.

So by your logic, Natsu has low intelligence because he is used for comedic purposes? And Laxus?

What is the point of this post? Are you trying to tell me that people who eat bears for dinner have low intelligence?:yodawg

Erza hasn't shown any display's of intelligence greater than Laxus as well and Gildarts is a straight up idiot who crashes through walls because he can't be bothered to walk around them :yodawgand I love Gildarts.

This is one of the worst posts I've seen in my entire life. I laughed through most of it at the sheer....... you know what let's get onto debating post.

The fact that you are using academic intelligence here proves that you don't understand what the subject of debate is. Academic intelligence won't impact the outcome of a fight by much, if at all. The term, intelligence, is referring to strategy/tactics. Anyways, Mirajane is obviously smart because she works around the guild 24/7. In a sense, she is depicted as Makarov's right hand woman. She is the one who coordinates and acts like the advisor of the guild. There is no need to debate that because even Makarov wouldn't put Laxus in that position even though he is his grandson.

Meanwhile, Erza has actually proved that she is capable of thinking logically. For example, she understood how to combine her own powers with the Etherion in the Tower of Heaven as she was going to save Natsu by channeling the explosion away from him even while under stressful conditions plus a time limit.

Secondly, Erza was able to counter Midnight by noting how he was able to use his magic and being able to look through it.

Lastly, Erza figured out that in order to hit Ajeel, she had to combine her attacks with water because water makes sand somewhat adhesive.

Erza has many more feats that I just cannot name all of them. You will need to try better if you want to prove Laxus can beat anything on the level of these feats.

Excuses. You're trying to pick out differences and mislead the subject of debate. My point was that Laxus criticizes Natsu for not thinking and charging at Zeref when he did the same thing. Laxus charged straight at Wahl knowing that his magic wouldn't work on him. Mavis' orders and Freed's words have nothing to do with this. In fact, Mavis wasn't as bright as we thought and her orders proved reckless. To follow her or Freed wouldn't mean you are intelligent. It would be the opposite. Instead of trying to use points to win an argument, you should understand what this topic is first and then look back at your own post to see if it makes sense.

I know what his plan is. Vengeance means nothing if you don't have the capability to succeed in doing so. By charging right in like that, I would say that Laxus wasn't using his brain. Actually, Laxus did know Wahl could nullify barrier particles so your point is invalid.

I don't even understand your point about Freed telling Laxus that Wahl can nullify his Jutsu Shiki? Laxus already knew that.

What is this supposed to mean? Seriously. Why have you provided this panel? What does this have to do with intelligence? All this does is make Erza look kinda stupid.
Legitimately dude, I honestly have no idea what your trying to say with this post.
I need to explain this to you? I thought providing you a panel was enough but if you refuse to understand it yourself, then all I can say is that the panel depicts Laxus as a guy who not so intelligent.
