I don't see Gray in chapter 498 as being in the same condition as he was in chapter 500. Gray in chapter 500 is probably a whole lot stronger because of the power of feelings. That's why his base mode outperformed his demonized form from earlier. We even got an explanation about the darkness in his heart being the source of his power and how killing his comrades would awaken it. I don't see power of feelings being a bad thing either. Many people use PoF as an excuse to avoid giving a character proper credit, but it's legit canon in the manga. Gray is simply a whole lot stronger now that his feelings are awakened. I see this as being not much different than Sting's case back in the Grand Magic Games.

I believe in terms of raw power, Natsu is stronger than Gray. With the obvious exception of August and Irene, I believe Natsu would oneshot most Spriggan 12 members with a solid powerhouse hit. Gray was obviously overpowering Invel, but it wasn't to the point of oneshotting. If it comes down to raw power, especially attack power, I have to give the edge to Natsu. It's not an overwhelming edge, as but I do believe Natsu generally has the stronger attacks.

Now if Natsu and Gray ever fight, I can see Gray's devil slaying advantage leveling the playing field and making them equals.

No this is Juvia that we are talking about, not Brandish.
No, we're talking about Urano Metria and its limitations.

Huh? No it wasn't. It was compressed by Brandish and then magnified back to its original size/power at her. I see no indication that it got stronger.
Command T magnification... Since Brandish can shrink and enlarge things at will, and after using magnification, I assume she made it bigger. I also see it bigger, but maybe due to the perspective (Lucy is farther than Brandish when they receive it).

Better feats...
I don't recall anything significant that proves Lucy is more durable than Juvia but this is me not recalling, I'm probably wrong here.

Dude, he WAS holding back. Unless you think that Juvia is Invel level in physical stats it might as well be a fact. His hair being super saiyan like showes that he is releasing considerable energy and it wasn't like that against Juvia. There is literally nothing else to add.
After re-reading that chapter, I only see a Gray and a Juvia who can't control their bodies. I don't see any indication that they are holding back...

Also the Gray that is fighting Juvia is not the same Gray that is fighting Invel. It's not that Juvia's got spriggan-level physical stats, the thing is that the Gray that is fighting Juvia is the same Gray that Invel was outright fodderizing. Gray is generally not spriggan-level, until PoF and PiS make him be.

Of course it is. No matter how much one would want to extrapolate Juvias physical stats they simply aren't Spriggan level or anywhere near it no matter how you put it.
Never implied that, but neither are Gray's. At least not the "usual" Gray.

POF doesn't increase someones power (emotion cannot physically increase power), its just them using their power to its fullest.
No, this is Fairy Tail, PoF does increase stats as much as the author wants it. This has been proven over and over and over throughout the manga.

Plot is a terrible excuse and makes debating useless, it really does.
Maybe, but it's the truth. And you know it. There is a lot of bad writing and inconsistency in this manga, especially in this arc. Some things can just simply not be accounted for using common sense or potrayal.

I could just as easily say that Juvia being able to scratch Gray was plot.
Why? They were training for one year together their gap ought not to be huge. Base Gray shouldn't be more than one tier above Juvia, the thing is Base Gray has the DeS powerup and now he's got a supreme powerup which is the superangry powerup by which he can fodderize a spriggan... and I don't even know if he was using DeS or he was just super angry because the tatoos weren't there when he defeated Invel.

Everything is plot. Natsu one/two shotted Neinhart, someone who was thought to have trash durability from the start and it seems that being enchanted only increased his MP and magic attacks (the wind attack was powerful). His physical stats seem to have remained the same for the most part.
It seems. That is the key word. It seems that only MP was enhanced in Neinheart. It could very well be that. Or it could also be that Mashima decided that base Natsu became stronger than he was a few hours back, just because; and he could oneshot a spriggan whose durability is trash but it was enhanced to be "decent". Any of the two interpretations is acceptable.

Your logic doesn't work. Keith is like that against anyone and everyone (its part of his power). Juvia can't do what she did to Keith against anyone else nor can anyone else do what she did to Keith. Keith is only immune to physical damage, any other type of attack could injure him. There are many characters that use physicals but very few that can ONLY use physicals (ie no magic or only magic that enhances physical strength).
I thought Keye's and Bradman's intangibility was total, that is, he can't be hurt by any attack no matter if it's physical or not. If that's incorrect then I was wrong, but I think it wasn't since I recall Juvia using water slicer repeatedly against him, and it going through his body.

Sure she could. A water technique with enough pressure to eradicate his particles is fair game. I mean obviously if she cannot deal with his intangibility then she cannot beat him but she does so she can.
Right, I don't know if Aqua Metria could take Keyes out but it may.

Of course Brandish is. But Juvia isn't. In regards to physicals I highly doubt it, I don't see any reason why she would, she wasn't portrayed as a physical monster ever so her being able to destroy Lucy (someone who seems to focus on CQC Post-TS, probably the reason she thought she could spar with Natsu) physically wouldn't really make much sense to me. Simply being more better off (for lack of a better word) then Lucy physically seems sensible. Her magic of course trumps Lucy's, and thats where I think she was holding back.
Juvia should now be pretty solidly on par with Lucy in terms of phisicality. Also spriggans were just introduced as monsters, in terms of MP, in terms of abilities and why not, in terms of phisicality. I don't recall any spriggan who couldn't do proficient cqc, except for Bradman maybe.

As for Keith, she CAN counter him, you underestimate the number of characters who can (its not even like Bradman who is still very durable w/o intangibility, Keith has little durability as far as I am concerned so most energy/elemental/unconventional attacks would do wonders). And even if Lucy specifically couldn't, that wouldn't change her being several tiers ahead of him overall.
As aforementioned, if Key was only immune to physical attacks then right, but he can't be affected by magical attacks either.

I don't deny her improvement. I think she could Easy-Mid diff Keith whereas Pre-TS she was vastly inferior to him. I peg Lucy in the same tier as the likes of Bluenote, at best Juvia is sitting right under that with the likes of Tartarus Erza/Kyouka.
You know, when I think of Bluenote I think of such a beast who could even go toe to toe with Glidartz, then I think that he was one-shot by Natsu and I seriously don't know how to compare him to other characters. So at first when I read "Lucy in the same tier as the likes of Bluenote" I was like: "OMG no way" but then I thought about it and it kind of makes sense.

Juvia being Tartaros Erza level seems legit to me, but I'd class Lucy around there too.

Just stop. This post is so biased, I can't even fathom how anyone can come with this reasoning. Gray can beat any spriggan level character of Invel's ilk provided he's blood lusted or super enraged under normal circumstances. It's hypocritical and double standard use to suggest what Gray did against Invel was plot but somehow Natsu oneshotting spriggans casually isn't. That's just blatant display of bias. Simply put, you can simply admit that everything that happens in this manga is plot related. Gildartz oneshotting Serena Historia is plot related. Gildartz making Natsu tremble in Tenrou island is plot related. There's no "poor excuse", that's just a ridiculous low-balling retort from your end. Especially considering you have zero knowledge how much Gray has trained during the one year time, and you have zero knowledge of his own power. Scary part is BASE Gray Bloodlusted knocked down a spriggan.

How about instead of making very poor excuses of "plot, PoF", just admit Gray simply that strong now and hold all characters to the same criteria. Considering every character in this manga has fought battles mostly with POF and plot to begin with.

Simply put Gray is a spriggan level character, and is above the likes of Erza.
You need to understand Invel is as strong as most of the 9 non top tier spriggans. As you saw, Gray couldn't beat him until after Juvia's apparent death, where his feelings went overboard. As you very well know, feelings in this manga are power. It's not only implied it's actually been stated.

The Gray that defeated Invel is nowhere near the Gray pre-Ice Lock.

IMO that was not normal bloodlusting, but ok I respect your opinion. If you think Gray could've defeated Invel if the reason of his bloodlust had been different, then even base Gray classes way way higher than Erza. Erza couldn't defeat Ajeel on her own, and I think of Ajeel as an Invel in terms of phisicality, their magic being similar but of different element. I always considered Erza above Gray ever since we arrived at this arc, where I understand that Gray may've surpassed her. But after seeing Gray fight Invel and get wrecked I understood that Base Gray was not Erza level just yet. I thought: "In DeS mode, he must definetely be on par or superior to Erza". But nope, turns out he didn't use DeS to defeat Invel but bloodlust. Which makes me think: hey Erza hasn't been bloodlusted in this arc yet so heck, she may even be Irene level. No, that is bullshit. Spriggans were supposed to be too powerful for the main cast to solo them. The thing was, they were so strong that people were actually thinking of what teams would beat individual spriggans. But nope, now bloodlusted Gray can take Invel, base Natsu can casually one-shot an enhanced spriggan just because, and it is very likely that bloodlusted Erza will defeat Irene... just no.

And it hurts me to see you suggest that I wouldn't consider Natsu oneshotting a spriggan plot. Of COURSE it is plot, I've been defending that from the moment it happened. It's clear PiS.

Now anything after that is twisting my words. I think we have enough common sense to class what is PiS and what is not. Glidartz was always the strongest mage in FT, apply to him the same growth ratio that Ntasu or Gray have undergone, it's clear that Glidartz is still gonna be number 1. That is not plot (unless you consider power growth in this year of training plot in itself).

You realise Gray did have some control right? Meaning he could hold back.
I don't see what makes you think that.

Really Char? Gray stabbed himself.....So unless Invel made him do that, which he didn't, Gray had some control.

And are you really complaining that the top dogs in FT can solo a Spriggan Char? Because if that's your defense that's really weak.

I interpreted it as they regained some control after some time, or there was no restriction to hurt themselves... but yeah I respect if you interpret that Gray wasn't even trying.

No, it's not that I'm complaining, I read this manga knowing the writing sucks... I am a very logical person and it is hard for me to accept certain illogical patterns such as the fact that the spriggans were sooooo utterly hyped then they were trashed like they were nothing... I mean it was hard for me to accept Laxus could do that but then I kind of accepted it and I was OK with it, it also helped me to kind of gauge the reach of a spriggan; then Natsu casually oneshots one... well, since it doesn't make sense I don't like it, but yeah what can I do...

If you are knowledgeable of Naruto, it's as if Naruto could've easily oneshot Pain upon awakening Sage Mode, or Juudara upon getting the SPSM powerup; it wouldn't have made sense and I would've been angry if that had happened but no; even Naruto partially being the Juubi jinchuuriki, having the goudamas, etc. ... he was still unable to defeat Juudara or Kaguya by himself... I just expected a little bit more of teamwork to take spriggans down, but so far, what do we got? They usually trash the Ishgar side (collectively) and then, one of them suddenly powers up and defeats the spriggan.

Examples:
- Invel was trashing Juvia and Gray but then, Gray wrecks Invel (no Juvia or sb else's help). Also, the gap between not bloodlusted and bloodlusted Gray is beyond sound.
- Gajeel and Levy couldn't do anything against Bradman, but the former gets powered up and trashes the Spriggan.
- Erza, Kagura and Jellal were up to defeat Neinheart but in the end, bloodlusted Jellal took him down very easily.
- Ultear, Wendy or Chelia were powerless against Dimaria yet Chelia gets a powerup and has the upper hand against the goddess....

You get what I mean. It's disappointment after disappointment.

They never gained control after time in fact Juvia implies the longer that went on the more control they'd lose. Gray was holding back against Juvia or it would of been a one sided stomp in his favour.

The Spriggans aren't as nearly as bad as you make them out to be. Only the strongest of the FT mages can take one on and win, while they have been questionable recently (NEINHART I'm talking about you) they still have decent hype around them.

I guess every mind is different, I respect your opinion but I can't seem to share your points.

First of all, I'll let you know I reread the battle again between Gray and Juvia... I still don't think he held back. He was even using DeS mode against poor Juvia. She got punched in the face, the impact was so deadly you can see the force. You can see Gray's face when fighting... He's clearly not holding back. They say that they can't even think of another thing which is not fighting each other... that was a serious and fierce battle and I believe they were giving it their all...

Yeah the spriggans were hyped to be capable to solo Fairy Tail individually, then it was the other way round. They have been a disappointment so far and I expect so much of August and Irene... But I can see it coming, Natsu or Laxus or August are gonna wreck August and Erza is gonna wreck Irene... probably in a 1 vs 1 which would be laughable...

Why would Juvia and Gray's mind work differently in this case.......At this point is seems like you're disagreeing for the sake of it.......

Gray was using the DeS mode but not any DeS spells which is what the mode grants him and he deactivates it anyway. Gray's face was like that because he was being controlled not because he was serious, Juvia had a serious face while telling herself internally she's was going to die for Gray....Bottom line their facial expression can't accurately portray their intentions at the time. You realise Juvia couldnt even beat Historia Keyes when serious so what makes you think she can keep up with Gray?

Char I know why you're disappointed.....You're adding things that the manga didn't say........When in earth did it say a Spriggan can solo FT? Heck when we see a Spriggan fight for the first time he's nearly beat by a casual Laxus Lightning nuke.

I accounted for that. It still took Gray 5 hits after remolding the divine ice to finally take down Invel. With Natsu, 2 base mode punches was able to take down an enhanced version of Neinhart.

Neither Gray nor Invel has been shown to use divine ice in that fashion.
Ice Make: Silver scales in AoE to base Natsu's attacks.
FDK uses fire of the same property as Igneel's.

Yeah I guess you have a point, I still think the intention of Mashima was showing us a cqc battle where Gray was slightly superior to Juvia but anyway...

As for the spriggans thing: I know it was never mentioned a spriggan could solo the guild but I think it was heavily implied.

The very first time we see a spriggan, we see a being who has so much MP that it even makes some characters sweat. They are all surprised and they're clearly portrayed as inferior to Brandish. Even a spriggan lackey, Marin, was portrayed as being capable of subjugating two mages of the caliber of Lucy and ERZA! and fighting slightly more than just on par with Natsu and Gray. Then the spriggan comes, she says they can crush them, she shrinks an entire island and then leaves...

As for the second spriggan encounter, we see someone who they have to run from because he's soooo hyped. I know, he's hyped by Makarov, he's hyped by himself being overzealous, he's hyped by Zeref which is normal since it's his lackey who we're talking about... Yet the impression that fight gave me is "they can't even run away from Ajeel, let alone fight him!". I'll admit Natsu's punch in Ajeel's face kind of surprised me, but Ajeel was unfazed after that so I thought: heck... there is no way they can beat him. Really, the impression that we were given is that not even such powerful mages could defeat a spriggan working together. Laxus appearing and throwing a nuke was off charts, but after the over hype the spriggans had undergone, I believed it when Ajeel mentioned "he wouldn't have died from it" with such arrogance, I even thought that nuke would've been nothing for him.

After such hype and superiority, and the difficulties to escape a spriggan, surprise! We know 11 of them are about the same power (nuts!) but one of them, August... may suppose a threat even greater than Zeref himself... Wow, I was literally thinking: Mashima is gonna have to make a good excuse if anyone is gonna defeat him. I was literally having trouble picturing any spriggan being defeated at all, even by FT teams like Natsu + Gray + Erza... Imagine August!! then it turns out that they dropped like flies. And by the token of things, August or Irene won't be as powerful as they were portrayed to be...

I mean, ofc they didn't "drop like flies" per se: it was very difficult for the good side to defeat every one of them. But still, I had never envisioned the possibility that they wouldn't be as strong as they were hyped to be. Understand my frustration when they're so easily fodderized. If Gray is so superior to Invel, a spriggan who was thought to be rather strong... and Natsu can casually oneshot/two-shot one... How much of a threat are they, really?

I accounted for that. It still took Gray 5 hits after remolding the divine ice to finally take down Invel. With Natsu, 2 base mode punches was able to take down an enhanced version of Neinhart.

Neither Gray nor Invel has been shown to use divine ice in that fashion.
Ice Make: Silver scales in AoE to base Natsu's attacks.
FDK uses fire of the same property as Igneel's.
Invel would melt Neinhart without a sweat. If Gray can mold divine ice, he sure as hell can add some demon juice to it.

Neinhart's powers were enhanced to the point that he was immune to Brandish's magic, beyond the limits of what he can achieve with his own magic. At the very least, Neinhart should have been stronger than the sum of his Historia.

Gray has never used divine ice in the fashion you're suggesting he does. He created gauntlets with it. Invel didn't simply freeze Gray over with divine ice either. He created armor from it.

Invel said I and quote 'This armor can freeze anything it touches instantly'
And gray can use ice make with it. Meaning he can use ice make silver with the same properties of ice as Invels.

If you're ranking by magic power your list is correct, however if it's who's going to win the battle, then Dimaria can melt all of them. Did you see what she did to Brandish?imagine her Take over + time stop= melt

Apparently an exaggeration since
(1) Gray can break it using brute force
(2) Gray didn't freeze Invel when he hit him with it.

Gray can make guantlets with the divine ice the same way Invel can create a suit of armor. Neither Gray nor Invel have ever shown to be able to simply freeze someone by covering them with the divine ice, let alone generate enough of it to cover an area.

Main characters don't die, Gray is immune and he was freezing if seen his body you D******.
Invel isn't a main character. Freezing him won't kill him. Invel wasn't frozen.

No, we're talking about Urano Metria and its limitations.
Why are we talking about its limitations on Brandish exactly? She hasn't used it on Brandish and the topic is Juvia Vs Lucy. Brandish has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Command T magnification... Since Brandish can shrink and enlarge things at will, and after using magnification, I assume she made it bigger. I also see it bigger, but maybe due to the perspective (Lucy is farther than Brandish when they receive it).
Command T - Reduction ---> Compresses the attack into portable size.
Command T - Magnification ---> Magnifies/Expands the attack back to its state pre-reduction.

I don't see any difference in size. If anything its smaller, there was a area larger then Tenchi Kaimei covered in water after Lucy's whereas nothing visible after Brandishes.

I don't recall anything significant that proves Lucy is more durable than Juvia but this is me not recalling, I'm probably wrong here.
I recall Lucy taking attacks every fight (such as Jacobs punches). Juvia rarely shows us durability (due to water body). Lucy has always had high durability and endurance for her weight class.

After re-reading that chapter, I only see a Gray and a Juvia who can't control their bodies. I don't see any indication that they are holding back...
The mere fact that Juvia and Gray committed suicide shows that they still had the abilities to control their bodies to various extents.

Fodderizing? I recall Gray actually having the upperhand up until Ice Lock came into play.

Never implied that, but neither are Gray's. At least not the "usual" Gray.
I don't see anything unusual about Gray when he beat the crap out of Invel other then being genuinely bloodlusted. Being bloodlusted doesn't give you a power-up like Second and Third Origin would, it just rapidly heightens your abilities to their limits (note that it doesn't make them surpass their limits).

No, this is Fairy Tail, PoF does increase stats as much as the author wants it. This has been proven over and over and over throughout the manga.
Nope, this being FT doesn't change anything. Unless you could find me where its stated that PoF literally gives you more power then you ever had beforehand the fact that emotions don't physically change your innate abilities stands.

Maybe, but it's the truth. And you know it. There is a lot of bad writing and inconsistency in this manga, especially in this arc. Some things can just simply not be accounted for using common sense or potrayal.
No its really not the truth and certainly holds no place in this or any other debate. Juvia hurting Gray is bad writing and inconsistent so am I to just disregard the feat entirely.

Not only was Gray a decent amount stronger then Juvia prior to the time-skip but you cannot assume that they have the same level of progress either. Gray is quite clearly a far more talented individual then Juvia so it stands to reason that his progress would be proportionally greater.

Also he did not fodderize Invel. Its very important to keep in mind that he had a natural resistance to Invels magic.

I mean, can you prove otherwise? Cause I could prove that his MP and magic spiked, but I don't see any evidence that anything else did. Your going for the unreasonable explanation when we actually have a reasonable one.

I thought Keye's and Bradman's intangibility was total, that is, he can't be hurt by any attack no matter if it's physical or not. If that's incorrect then I was wrong, but I think it wasn't since I recall Juvia using water slicer repeatedly against him, and it going through his body.
No, thats absolute intangibility. They most certainly don't have that. They exist in space so they can be hit by energy attacks. At one point I even recall Gajeel hitting Bradman with a headbutt lol.

Water Nebula made direct contact with Keith and sent him back, though it wasn't powerful enough to defeat him.

Not after her feats against Brandish (arguably even, at the very least temporarily, overwhelming her in CQC). Thats besides the point. Brandish is no doubt proficient in CQC but it was never stated that she was a monster at it. Her being vastly above someone who prides themselves in CQC (and is actually strong) while herself not having CQC as a forte is a luxurious assumption I'm not willing to give to Brandish. I think her being just above Lucy in CQC is completely reasonable (and quite frankly, what she has shown).

I don't understand the Bradman underestimation (I actually have him as one of the weakest Spriggan at this point but still). If anything CQC is actually one of his fortes (that and versatility). He was able to spar equally with Gajeel in CQC and is overwhelming Rogue despite being a historia. He is actually one of the better Spriggan in regards to CQC, only beaten out by Wahl and Jacob.

As aforementioned, if Key was only immune to physical attacks then right, but he can't be affected by magical attacks either.
Which is completely and utterly false lol. If that was the case he would even defeat Acnologia via attrition. If the magic attack is solid/thin in nature then he can probably avoid it. However an attack that is of the nature of something like a roar is unquestionably incinerating him.

Yeah thats what power inflation does to our power scaling. I mean, Pre-TS Mard/Precht were top-tiers whom were only weaker then Acnologia/Zeref. Now with the introduction of the Spriggan we have got like 4 new tiers and the two are only above average.

Though to be fair, Warrod did kinda hint at this when he said that he was insignificant (pretty big word, a lighter way of saying fodder) in PL outside of Ishgar. Granted, he is a support type, but was still rather impressive for the time. If Hiro plans to do more after this arc I wouldn't be surprised if we get introduced to characters who bridge the gap that Acno has made even more. We are only looking at two countries of the entire world afterall.

What are you saying?
I said Gray won't die because he's a MC. Gray crafted Demon gauntlets and started pound him in.

Off topic and I could care less. At least everyone kept quiet at my Natsu vs gildarts
Lmao the only reason why people aren't saying anything about Natsu vs Gildarts anymore is because we've already had this debate many times in the past and it's just the same arguments over and over again from both sides. Don't u have anything new to argue about?
