Gildarts has casual mountain busting punches. He has thrown 13 punches instantaneously and no one can react to poof! speed.

If you combine those two, it means Gildarts can throw several mountain busting punches instantaneously. When Brandish brought out the knife he saw it but didn't react fast enough before getting stabbed.

Gildarts can blitz his opponents with Empryean, a mountain busting punch. That attack used against Bluenote had so much power in it that he sent so much force upward, the shockwave from that divided the clouds. Clouds are multiple kilometers in the air and Bluenote was gone by the time rustyrose hit the ground. If one of those punches landed on August he would be demolished.

When Serena used his Dragon roar, Gildarts destroyed the spell instantaneously. No one even noticed his arrival until the aftermath of the attack. That's a speed feat within itself.
You're comparing speed of punches to reflexes? Gildarts could be a quick puncher, but that doesn't mean his reflexes could be the same. Plus, it's not like August expected Brandish to stab him, so how could he react? Not hard to believe he didn't react because he didn't expect to be betrayed by someone he saw as his granddaughter. Or, he likely chose not to react because he figured the dagger wouldn't do much damage to him.

Bluenote lost to current Natsu, who was overwhelmed by August. Unless Gildarts got stronger, nothing implies he's better than August. And Gildarts himself said Serena wasn't even close to his potential as a zombie. I"m sure it's hard to notice someone's arrival when you're worried about a powerful attack wiping you out, though.

Lol I assume you're joking.

Gildarts does have God like reflexes.

He could punch that fast it means his brain would have to react the same way.

The flash can run faster than a bullet. His brain would need to be fast enough to transfer those images from his eyes.

When batman put the flash ring on, he obtain speed force powers. When he ran, he crashed because his brain couldn't register how fast he was going. This doesn't apply to Gildarts, his brain registered his speed.

Gildartz has shown plenty of better feats compared to August.

He survived an encounter against Acnologia, his attacks have caused major destruction compared to August, his attacks have one of the largest AoE up to date, he has oneshotted Natsu in the past (who negated August's heat attack), he oneshotted Historia God Serena.

Gildartz is also known as Fairy Tail's Ace (the strongest allied guild in the war) and have taken on quests no other mage has.

He has plenty of feats and credibility on his shoulders.
Yes Gildarts' feats are impressive. That's irrelevant though. The thing that matters isn't the impressiveness of Gildarts' feats on their own, but their impressiveness compared to others.

August's best feats are:

Oneshotting a weakened out of power tied up base form Mirajane

Being stabbed by Brandish with blade

Natsu negating his heat based spell
Oneshotting Mirajane isn't a feat that can be held against him though. He took out a weakened Mira with basically zero effort. What more was he supposed to do in that situation?

Being stabbed by Brandish is perfectly understandable considering the fact that she was standing like three feet away and it was completely unexpected. Not to mention the fact that after being stabbed through the heart he proceeded to nuke the living shit out of Natsu and co.

Well of course Natsu negated his spell. It was heat based. That's not something that can be held against August, if it were a heat based spell coming from Gildarts Natsu would have negated it too.

Don't see how August's case is different.

Makarov hyped up August too didn't he?

We don't know how strong August really is at this point.

It's better not to assume because it is risky at the moment.
August's case is different because he's received hype from other sources besides Makarov.

When August has shown some credible evidence, then we can powerscale him.
If you want to wait for evidence to powerscale him then why put Gildarts on his level or above?

Brandish's Mass Manipulation Magic could not affect Enchanted Neinhart. That means her MP is lower.

Natsu was able to slice through Enchanted Neinhart's wind attack and oneshot him.
Enhanced Neinhart had insane amounts of mp but you have to remember that Neinhart's main magic is Historia of Corpses. The wind magic is probably just a side magic that he knows and it's likely that it isn't anywhere near as powerful as his Historia.

Why are there debates about power levels? This feels like dbz all over again... ft power "levels" are inconsistent af, the mangaka makes them batshit crazy. Some of the characters (good or bad) are basically gods in human skin yet they lose because the plot demands it
This is the most true post on this thread really lol. Honestly I question some of the posts on this thread because they seem like borderline trolling. Gildarts is not some god,to portray him as one is ridiculous because there have been 8 years worth of TS between his last fight on tenrou, which have in turn created massive power inflation. His only recent feat was beating a weakened GS.... I mean you can say you think he is still top tier, but not only would that be inconsistent af power scaling without some indication of training, but it simply has no backing at the moment. Throw all the feats you want out there but the best feat a character can show is beating powerful fighters, and currently Gildarts best two feat are beating Bluenote(the same dude who got oneshotted by Natsu) and a weakened GS like I said. The only reason most of the spriggans have lost has been because of perfect counters (plot) and a few have gone down to decent strategy. Considering August and Irene are acknowledged by everyone that knows them as being way above the other spriggans who like I said have largely been done in by bs,then they should have no trouble with Gildarts imo. Knowing Hiro's power scaling though perhaps Gildarts will beat August,i honestly cannot rule it out knowing his writing style lately lmao.

Did you really just ignore my post?

Is it that hard to understand the feats I've shown?

Gildarts would defeat 99% of the Spriggans if he went all out. He casually runs at poof speed, if he used all his power, he would 1v11 the spriggan.

Each of them get several mountain busting punches instantly. Then Dimaira stops time and kill him.

The reason why I ignore your posts is because quite frankly you seem bias,I have nothing against you but I do not care to discuss stuff like this with people who are like that, take that as you will though. You throw a bunch of subjective feats at people on this thread some may not even be cannon, and then say it's a FACT that Gildarts>99 percent of characters...... I at least can say that I have no idea if Gildarts trained or not. If he did good he is Spriggan level now,if not then he should not be Spriggan level but likely is anyways lol. The best feat like I said is who a character has beaten, and right now none of them have been Spriggan level. Meanwhile August and Irene have been praised as top tier by every single person who speaks about them, and have made even the other Spriggan 12 members fearful with their immense magic power. The same Spriggan tier who GS is apart of,and Gildarts said would have given him a great fight. I guess we just have to all wait and see really.

Well I don't think we've seen Zeref go all out yet, and I'd like to see more of Acnologia as well, so I'll exclude them from my list, but consider them higher than anything in the following. For my thoughts on this, I'll do separate lists for the Spriggans and the protagonists based on hype and what we've seen so far. To keep my comment condensed I'll use spoiler tags to divide it into sections.

Top 10 Spriggan 12 thus far:
Top tier:
1. August
High Tier:
2. Invel
3. God Serena
Mid Tier:
4. Wahl
5. Brandish
6. Bradman
7. Jacob
8. Dimaria
Low Tier:
9. Ajeel
10. Nienhart

Now this is mainly speculation on my part as we haven't seen a lot of the Spriggan, but for me, August is easily a cut above the rest from what we've heard. Makarov credited him with having a huge knowledge of various magics, a knowledge of magic thats greater than Zeref who has been around 400+ years, so thats really impressive. Next I have a high tier, and I've put Invel up there purely because Zeref keeps him by his side, which could mean he's someone he relies on to clean up some things if he can't be bothered. God Serena is up there for the fairly obvious reasons of being credited as one of the strongest mages from Ishgar + Dragon Slayer magic which is fairly self explanatory in itself. Mid tier, we have Wahl whose cannon nearly obliterated the guild from 400km (~250 miles) away, Brandish who has magic which allows her to change the size of matter, Bradman who was basically destroying the northern front, Jacob who has mastery of assassination magic and Dimaria who is a seasoned war veteran who's power made Kagura freeze up. Ajeel and Nienhart are lower-tier spriggan imo, Ajeel because even though he's pretty strong he has some things which can easily bring about his undoing and Nienhart is a mystery, but I wouldn't rate him too highly without seeing what he can do.

Top 10 Protagonists as it currently stands:
Top Tier:
1. Natsu
2. Jellal
3. Laxus
High-Mid Tier:
4. Erza
5. Gajeel
6. Kagura and Minerva
7. Gray
Low tier:
8. Sting and Rogue
9. Wendy
10. Juvia

So before I start I'd like to note I think Gildarts is a bit irrelevant to place on this list as he's currently mia and he hasn't been shown to be any better than what he was on Tenrou which was >= Bluenote, who Natsu one-shotted easily, so he's not on the list, but he'd probably place before Gajeel at worst.
Okay, so Natsu gets the #1 spot. You're welcome to disagree with me, but no other character on the protagonist side has shown anything that can really match the power of Natsu's Dragon Force. We've seen he can activate it at will, as per the Natsu & Gray vs Mard Geer fight, and he went from doing nothing to sending the demon flying when he activated it, and Mard was one of the strongest enemies we'd seen at that point. Jellal gets #2, but he's really on the same level as #3, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt as he was slightly ahead of Laxus at the GMG and we haven't seen if he's gotten any stronger since he solo'd Oracion Seis. Laxus is pretty damn powerful and one of the best mages FT has, so I'm giving him #3. Erza is at #4 again because one of the best fairy tail mages + she's erza, Gajeel gets the benefit of the doubt and is placed higher than Kagura + Minerva because of his Iron-Shadow Dragon mode +the potential of him having Dragon Force, which would put him above Erza imo, but as we haven't seen him have DF he gets #5. Kagura and Minerva were slightly below Erza at the GMG, and I haven't seen any reason why that would change, so they get to share #6. I'm giving Gray #7 purely because of his Devil Slayer magic and the buffs its given him. Sting and Rogue will get to share #8 as they're always together as a team, and even separately with Dragon Force they can pack one hell of a punch. Wendy gets #9 for the same reason as the other Gen 1/3 Dragon Slayers have placed, and thats because of the sheer damage they can deal with Dragon Force + their other capabilities. I'll give Juvia #10 as we haven't seen anything much from any other notable characters in recent times for me to put them above her. Honourable mentions for the list go to Cobra, Midnight and Jura. (Jura is out of this list as he's more of a sub character and I have other reasons I won't bore you with).
How can you even say that? Gildarts one shotted Bluenote just as easily has Natsu.

This is why no one listens to you stool. Listen to yourself for a moment? 1v11? What?!
Then you turn around and sat DiMaria insta kills him?

Time magic is too hax for crash to break.
Gildarts has speed that none of the spriggan 12 can match. Irene showed her speed when dodging Acnologias attack, she flipped over it. She did not move from Point A to Point B instantaneously.

Gildarts solos Alaverz.

He did say if God Serena was alive he would be a formidable opponent by sensing his magic. And by just sensing his Historia magic he was praising his real version. And if he had met real it would have just been praise and nothing else. And we don't really know whether he really knew him because he did say he always wanted to see who would win if they clashed. So Gildarts himself was not sure.So Hiro is suggesting it is 50 50 chance.

That's my point.

Gildartz never met the real God Serena. He doesn't know how strong the real God Serena is.

He is giving Serena the benefit of the doubt by assuming that the historia is far weaker.

If he had met the real God Serena, there is no guarantee that he would give the same speech.

Gildartz clearly said "he couldn't sense anything from the historia".

Read the first panel.

It's not like Gildartz sensed that the historia was strong.

Gildartz literally couldn't pick up any signs of magical power from the historia.

He was purely guessing based off of 2 things:

1.) God Serena is a Spriggan.

2.) God Serena is ranked #1 GoI in Ishgar.

(He probably even heard about Serena eliminating the other 3 GoI)

Like I said, Gildartz was giving Serena the benefit of the doubt.

He wasn't being cocky, that's all there is to it.

Gildartz never implied that they were on par.

He just simply didn't know how strong Serena was, so based off his titles, Gildartz assumed Serena to potentially be strong.

EDIT:

Simply put, historias don't give off MP.

They are dead, it's basically an illusion from somebody's memory.

Sliced all guards without him knowing.
http://www.mangapanda.com/fairy-tail/455/11
This page shows both of their speeds, Ajeel blocking the swords with one hand and Erza popping out of nowhere.

Edit* Erza has always been stronger than Gray before the TS.
http://www.mangapanda.com/fairy-tail/495/13

The first panel is a bunch of fodders. That doesn't mean anything.

The second panel is the speed that Gray had when he blitz Invel.

But that's besides the point, the argument isn't about Erza vs. Gray.

It's about Ajeel vs. Invel.

The moisture from Ajeel's sand can't instantly absorb the ice. It's not fast enough.

Once Invel instafreezes Ajeel like he did against Natsu, he can proceed to crush the ice sculpture within seconds.

Yes Gildarts' feats are impressive. That's irrelevant though. The thing that matters isn't the impressiveness of Gildarts' feats on their own, but their impressiveness compared to others.

In my opinion, Gildartz doesn't have any impressive feat yet, just like August.

But he does have more better feats compared to August.

August lacks too many feats.

Until August shows more feats, I see no reason why we can't put Gildartz on the same level as August..

Gildarts is faster, you know this.

They may have been fodder but it showcased Erza's speed. August could not react to Brandish to pulling out a knife and we know Gildarts is way faster. If August were to fight Gildarts in hand to hand combat, Gildarts wins almost automatically. It's kinda hard to dodge someone who has thrown 13 punches in an instant and who can blitz you with multiple mountain busting punches.

None of August spells matter because Gildarts has crash to break them apart. As of right now, Gildarts is the strongest character excluding the obvious. If he show time abilities which I doubt he has because he would have used it right when he saw Acnologia to get the hell out of there then Gildarts takes this win.

We all have our biases, this isn't a secret unless you lack self awareness or awareness of others if it makes you feel better.

You don't seem take anyone's view into consideration unless they agree with you which is the reason why you no doubt feel like you're fighting a war against so many users. It's easy to see that your claims are purely because you have a strong bias regarding gildartz. All of it which you try and justify by pulling resources out of thin air or non-cannon material which is about the same as using nothing as a solid argument OR even present things in a far grander form than it actually was

I never said Gildartz was slow.

I disagree with the Erza part, but you are entitled to your own opinion.

Again, for the Gildartz vs. August, I never supported nor denied your theory.

Regarding some of the Gildarts stuff thats been said recently, I doubt he is strong enough to really be able to challenge August and have an easy time which has seemingly been suggested here. Heck, honestly I think he could struggle with using his Crash magic on August's spells due to August being a far stronger mage by portrayal, and with his insane magic power, it make it very hard for Gildarts to crash August's spells like he would crash other spells in the past.
Also, here is that page of dialogue from Gildarts in Chapter 496 regarding God Serena's historia (Crunchyroll Version).

From this page, its clear that Serena would be a quite incredible mage if he were the real deal in Gildarts' eyes, but the Historia is nothing like the real thing. If it was the real Serena that Gildarts fought, I don't think it would've ended the same way tbh.

The Crunchyroll version is more or less the same as the MS version in this case.

If anything, CR version support my argument more,

Gildartz could never sense Historia God Serena's MP.

Again, the dead doesn't give off MP, you can't sense their magical power.

Gildartz was simply guessing, and he wasn't wrong.

God Serena is a formidable wizard, Gildartz didn't lie. But compared to himself?

Gildartz never said anything that would imply God Serena is a tough opponent for him.

August spells aren't mountain level. Read above, he would blitz him.

GS cave magic doesnt top Gildarts falling.

Ice trail is cannon, I've used less than 10 feats.
Gildarts punching someone through an impregnable prison, sending him flying for miles without a sweat.
Poof speed AKA FTE
Dodging hundreds of lasers that move at light speed "He smashed the light" Light, he smashed light.

Ice trail is cannon and so is KoTsh. And if so these didn't exist, Gildarts still has amazing speed feats. He blitz bluenote with mountain busting punch with ease.

Y'know, don't feel like you are correct because you have people liking your post. It petty.

Well, there is no point to go full circle. I get everything you are trying to say here, but I just simply disagree.

In my opinion, Gildartz doesn't have any impressive feat yet, just like August.

But he does have more better feats compared to August.

August lacks too many feats.

Until August shows more feats, I see no reason why we can't put Gildartz on the same level as August..
Well i will take Gildart's words for now.I don't think Gildarts will say that he would be a formidable opponent without any reason. And seeing how the Historia cluld actually injure him,God Serena might,i repeat might defeat him. This is Hiro's way of saying this that they are equals.
Edit saw the CR version where he mentions he would be hell of a wizard. He still admires him.

Yeah, I see where you are coming from.

Gildartz saying that God Serena is formidable is quite true. He is stronger than 80% of wizards we know of and eliminated the other 3 GoI with ease.

It just so happens that I don't think that correlates to God Serena being on par with Gildartz.

Unless Gildartz says something along the lines of "I would have a hard time against him" or "He'd be a difficult opponent for even me", then I don't think the statement is enough to say God Serena is on par with Gildartz himself.

Again, Gildartz doesn't even know how strong historia God Serena is.

He's not basing his statement on God Serena's power.

He's purely guessing based on God Serena's rank and background.

Gildartz literally has nothing to go off of in terms of MP because like I said, the dead doesn't give off MP.

People are liking his post because he presents a legitimate argument, unlike someone we all know :heh
Please, do tell me how Ice Trail and KoTsh are canon? You continuously repeat it yet give no evidence whatsoever.
Even in the spin off, Gildarts smashed magical energy? Great. Big Whoop. In FT right now, that's not very impressive compared to other things that have happened in this manga.

I think what Gildarts meant in that statement was that the magic power he was sensing from Historia GS was too faint and weak to be that of a living being.

How can you even say that? Gildarts one shotted Bluenote just as easily has Natsu.
As you can see from when I made the post, that was back in early February and things have changed since then. We hadn't seen Gildarts back then at all, and I didn't include Gildarts in mine because his fight against Bluenote had easily been eclipsed by what Natsu did to Bluenote. Now that we've seen Gildarts, I'd say he's up there for protagonists, but I definitely think that as a character he is fairly overblown/overhyped, like to be honest, defeating a Historia isn't as impressive as defeating the real Spriggan would've been. We've seen how bad the durability is for the Historias, but I would reckon that the real God Serena wouldn't of gone down on Gildarts like that. Rather, I believe that the real God Serena could actually post a real challenge to Gildarts and potentially beat him.
