I can show you another proof that swords/knives are lethal in FT verse.

Remember the fight between Kagura, Erza and Minerva? How Minerva used a large blast called Yagdo Rigora yet it barely did anything to Kagura or Erza yet Kagura was fatally wounded by Minerva stabbing her from the back with a sword.

http://www.mangapanda.com/fairy-tail/315/19
Stings attack made a hole in the GMG floor. Minerva's attack didn't break through the floor and tunnel down meaning her attack was weak. Erzas and Kaguras sword aren't regular swords, those swords slice to concrete and spells.

You're just gonna ignore my evidences, aren't you?

Oh well still - if you did see that panel, Minerva used a normal sword to stab Kagura, not any of Erza's or Kagura's.

Also there were still more powerful attacks that Minerva or Erza used on Kagura yet she stil got wounded by a normal sword. Now, I'm not saying that anytime knives or swords are used they will severely injure the opponent but they will injure the opponent if they are caught off-guard.

Also keep in mind, August was not in battle mode when he was stabbed.

Think about it.

If I slept with your boyfriend, you would be pissed and sent into an extreme rage.

(Assuming you're a female, sorry if that's not the case. You have the name Brandish)
I don't think extreme rage can do that amount of improvement. Unless Gray was below casual before Juvia "died"... lol.

And as for August... he took a knife to the gut from a Spriggan at point blank - and Brandish used magic on that weapon. His old abs are probs rock solid, but getting pierced by that sword doesn't downgrade August in the slightest. Brandish healed his wound but the damage inflicted is still there.

Anyways, once August went into his black/red form, his power level went up... might want to wait and see what he's like physically after that transformation...

Doesn't matter, August was stabbed due to poor reacts and durability.

The sword has more damage compared to the blast. It didn't break the floor under them. Can you read?

Natsu iron fist would blow 60% of his body, that's how low his durability is.

Cmon, a knife! A FREAKING KNIFE!? August is a joke.

*I text on my phone so I can't tell*

August would still survive the iron fist and destroy Natsu as if he didn't get anything more than a tickle. That's how resilient and powerful August is.

Lol August can survive when his upper half of his body is destroyed?

Iron fist makes craters, that knife wouldn't do jack shit to a rock. August. Is. Getting. Destroyed. If. He. Fights. Natsu.

So basically with this whole knife discussion if luffy from one piece gets stabed with a sword I'm guessing his durability is shit too same with zoro and sanji also natsu got stabbed with a knife I'm guessing their durability is shit too

If he can shrug off a stab like nothing happened and proceed to do a great deal of damage to the land, then he can survive and proceed to wreck whomever.

That's a nice opinion, but manga basically tells us August would kill Natsu with little to no effort. If he shows some sort of repercussion from the stab, then you may have some semblance of point. Until then, you have no argument, point, or leg to stand on. Not unless you create your own fan fiction.

Demolition fist would obliterate his body so he can't attack back.

For the 4 god damn time, learn to read.

Well Brandish can probably do that to any character when they're not expecting it... only people who might not get cut are Zeref and Acnologia.

What happened next was a rise in power, there's no denying that. And it's probably the form he'll fight in from here on out.

OH yes! That's makes perfect sense. Natsu can tank huge explosions but a knife can cut him.

Hey man, I got to give it to you. Your are undoubtedly the smartest person I've ever met and I'm taking AP classes.

Explosions aren't the be-all end-all of FT. It depends. Igneel's roar generated a nuke bigger than a mountain. This tickled Acnologia. At the end of their fight, Igneel bite took an arm off Acnologia.

Sometimes nukes/explosions are stronger, but that's not often in FT.

By that logic your precious Gildarts has fodder durability since he got ripped in two by Acnologia's bare claws.

So all of Natsu, Laxus, Grays attacks mean nothing because explosions are weak. Wrong.

Igneel used physical power, his roar doesn't enough force to tear body parts off. Natsu roar didn't even turn Bluenote into a skeleton with that mountain roar.

See but this is exactly my point. If Zeroth is stronger than Gray's base punches, then why did he consider Gray using Zeroth merely interesting and yet he considers Gray's base punches a sign that he's getting serious? Seems rather contradictory.
His punches aren't a sign of him getting serious. It's more like the anger and darkness building up inside him.

You can keep repeating this all you want but the fact remains that this is inconsistent with Invel's actions and responses to each of those attacks.
We pretty much agree on this except for different characters. You keep saying how Gray's fight was inconsistent but I'm trying to tell you that Natsu's power level and feats to support it are even more inconsistent.

The idea that removing Jacob from the building somehow automatically makes him not a threat anymore is completely absurd. If Natsu hadn't dealt with Jacob quickly then who knowswhat would have happened? He might have used Stealth to get away and he could come right back to the guild any time he wanted.
Again, if Natsu is truly as strong as he was against Neinhart, Jacob wouldn't have the chance to escape. One casual attack in Base Mode would end him easily. At least it should if Natsu's power level is consistent.

But then you have to ask yourself, "IS Jacob's durability comparable to the likes of Neinhart?" Isn't that what we've been discussing this whole time?
Besides getting hit a few times, Jacob doesn't seem to be that good in defense. Lucy and Leo's attacks were weak. There was probably only one notable punch from Natsu that he tanked but again... that is only one attack. I can't say Jacob has better durability because he just tanked one attack. What I do know is that he was one-shotted.

Well no duh. EVERYTHING Natsu does is for the sake of the guild, that doesn't make every circumstance and scenario equivalent just because the larger overarching motivation is the same.
If motivation is the same in both situations, then the damage output is dependent on attack power. From what it seems, Natsu had to use a lot more attack power to defeat Jacob than he did with Neinhart. Something here isn't consistent especially since the outcome is the same.

Well you just answered your own question about why this is even relevant with the very next sentence you wrote.

Again, this is more circular reasoning. You are operating under the assumption that END's flames work the same way as FDKM flames or Igneel's flames, but my whole argument has been that they DON'T work the same way.
I don't see why E.N.D's flames wouldn't work the same way as any other power-up. It is still a power-up. I think it is more of an assumption to say that Natsu was going easy on Gray. It doesn't matter though, we'll see soon enough what Natsu can really do when he goes all out. At least that's what he said at the end of last chapter.

What makes you say that?
The flames disappeared not too long after Natsu's arm demonized.

Well IIRC Natsu himself admitted that Jacob was good at CQC.
I don't remember that but even if it did happen, I wouldn't use Natsu as a standard of excelling in CQC. He is at best average at CQC. So someone who can match him probably isn't that good either.

They are considered Fairy Tail's most formidable opponents because they have huge amounts of MP and are highly proficient in haxy magic, not because they're all buff hunks that can take nuclear blasts straight to the face without a scratch (obviously an exaggeration but you get my point). It is true that a lot of mages with high MP do have great physicality. But correlation does not equal causation.
Sure, correlation doesn't equal causation. But it is the best information we've got up to date. I would rather base my claims off of correlation than deny it just because it doesn't support my argument. It should be pretty clear that mages with higher MP usually have better stats. August and Eileen are by far the most powerful Spriggans in stats compared to the others. Similarly, the Spriggans have by far the highest stats in comparison to other high-tier characters. And those high-tier characters have better stats than the fodders which is why they are stronger.

Invel created a situation (Ice Lock) where Gray would kill Juvia, leaving him guilty enough that his heart would be totally consumed by darkness. No matter how you look at it... negative emotions created darkness. DeS magic drives one insane and does speed up the process here (due to Gray learning DeS too quickly) but this doesn't change the fact that in order for Gray's darkness to awaken in full, there needed to be an emotional trigger at the level of Juvia committing suicide for Gray. I could argue that DeS magic influences emotions... well you only need to look at the recent chapter for that. For now I can't separate darkness from negative emotions, they seem hand-in-hand like positive feeling and PoF.
I thought we were talking about the part where Invel mentions that Gray's darkness was consuming him? At that point, Juvia was frozen so Invel didn't intend to create any emotional situation.

You got it backwards. The DeS magic is what caused the darkness to begin with. Emotions may have sped up the process.

As for DeS magic, it is a power-up. In no way does it influence emotions. This is literally no different from Dragon Slayers becoming more dragon-like with the use of DF, the more they use Dragon Slaying Magic.

I don't necessarily believe that darkness and PoF follow the same mechanics. Tbh I expect darkness to be more of a permanent power than PoF, though I also expect power from darkness to be enhanced by negative emotions. All I'm saying on this subject is largely speculation.
Well, in that case, I would just call it a power-up. But I still refuse to believe that darkness is a form of PoF or everything in the series would be counted as PoF.

That isn't what I said... I just said that nukes aren't everything. I said it depends. They can be strong. Nukes often have bulk AoE, but lack in potency. Only the truly strong nukes have potency. I could list several examples of this.

Similarly weapons and CQC attacks have low AoE, but generally high potency. So many finishing moves in FT come from low AoE attacks - sword slashes, punches, weapons etc. There are many examples of this.

This doesn't prove that swords > nukes - to be clear.

Your initial qualm was that I labeled darkness an emotional power. I didn't really think we were isolated to any one panel.

But if we do talk about that particular moment (up until Brandish arrives), Invel is more or less stating Gray's condition. He now realises Gray has DeS magic, knows it's side-effects, and concludes somehow that Gray's heart is nearly consumed by darkness. Invel goes on to say that darkness is the seeds of black magic and Zeref is proof of that, darkness is neither good or evil, and that darkness exists in the hearts of all. DeS magic amplifies darkness, given it makes someone insane and eats at their soul. You don't need to be a Devil Slayer to have a dark heart, apparently.

If DeS magic doesn't influence emotions, then I don't know what to think of Gray's current behaviour. As for the slayer comment I agree, a devil slayer should become more like a demon when they demonise. Etherious have 1) curse power which is sourced by negative emotions, and 2) are programmed to hunt Zeref. I think point (2) has a relationship to devil slayers, in that they have an instinct to hunt devils... and this effects their psyche (like going insane).

Well, in that case, I would just call it a power-up. But I still refuse to believe that darkness is a form of PoF or everything in the series would be counted as PoF.
It's a power up I don't disagree. I'm not really fussed about how it's classified as that's a preference. If you don't like PoF being grouped with darkness because you don't like PoF as a power in FT, then it's fine to make another category for darkness. I just put them both under the umbrella of emotional power. If someone calls darkness = PoF with negative emotions, I'm fine with that too.

But not everything in the series is either darkness or PoF though. Well, from what we know about darkness... Gray's had to "spill out". It was seemingly untapped in ch 498, but released at the end of ch 499.

The only other people I speculate to maybe have used darkness are...

- Zeref (think this is 100% true)
- Precht (his Devil's Heart)... could've been a darkness power source. He was following the path of Zeref supposedly.
- Zero... an inexplicable power up that was an alternate personality which Brain sealed.
- Spriggan 12 (not confident).

Show me one instance where he showed any signs of damage from the stab, when Kagura during the tournament was finished by Minerva's stab. This argument was shitted on the second the Kagura vs Minerva vs Erza comparison was brought into this. Wodden needs a new argument in order to downplay August.
